So... Skyler got taller?

A bit too toonish for me, but looks nice enough.

    Greetings,

    Skyler at...what, 14?  16?

I think the toonish-ness is mostly in the skin texture (and those expressions o_O); it might be interesting to see what she looks like with slightly more realistic skin texture.

I'm also curious to see how other G3F clothes fit her, as that was a real problem with Skyler and Rayn.

I love the boots, though. :)

Me too, but people seem to love this type of character so hopefully lots of folks will be happy - including 3D Universe. Northern hemisphere summer is perhaps not the best time for a big indoor hobby launch, though.

Hayley seems a bit less photoreal than Skyler. The character is like an older Skyler but with some Kimberly DNA to take it a toon direction - plus a hint of a youing Britney Spears look.

The packages are good value compared to some recent launch prices. The clothing is quite likely to end up in my cart sooner rather than later. I think 3D Universe could sell plenty of clothing...

I like her, her hair, and clothes.

    All materials iRay only.

    Bummer.

That tank top has some otherworldly physics going on.

I like 3D Universe characters (though they're often too expensive for me to justify buying, since they're a lot more expensive than other characters) but I'm not sure how I feel about this one. It's like they took Skyler's face and then made the body rounder and pumped in some adult bits. The end result sort of looks like a real person and yet sort of feels disturbing to me (can't really describe it better.) Hopefully others like it more~

    It's ribbed, I think.

I was going to type: "It's Haley for YT all grown up with a suntan, isn't it?" but... nope. New Haley is a shorty.

I see what you mean about the skin. Haley for YT has one of the best naturalistic G1/V5 mats. New Haley... will probably need a reskin, or a good amount of slider magic, certainly in the translucency department. She'd probably look better with High Translucent Josie mats, or even wearing Izzy's skin.

    Interesting comparison image.

This one is with HT Josie mats, and an eye accent. She's still pretty much a toon-hybrid, which isn't a bad thing per se, but she'll stick out next to more realistic characters.

New Haley has tarame eyes, too, compared with Haley YT's distinct tsurime. This can be changed with sliders, of course, but it does give default New Haley a slightly dopey, comic relief look, especially combined with her exaggerated chubby cheeks, whereas Haley YT looks awesome right out of the box.

Any danger of updated iray Haley YT being part of the G3 Julie Pro pack?

Looks really nice.  Was thinking of putting it in the cart and..... Iray only.  Nope.  Gone.  *big sigh*

3DU has always sort of specialized in 'toons and hybrid 'toons. This is a good addition to their line.

Now I seem to want to line up Skyler or Rayn, Haily, and Aven for Genesis 1. They would come across as a family group with no effort whatsoever.

LoL,  Little Haley looks like she's had a hard life in that comparison render.

Jazyln, I want a new Jazyln adventurer toon teen. I still mix Jazyln into my characters sometimes. *sob sob*

Yeah at first I was thinking Haley was an update to the old one, but not so much. I don't make teens but the toon styles blend nicely to soften up realistic adults into more stylized characters so sometimes I bite. But I'll pass for now.

We can't buy just the hair? And I'm guessing Haley doesn't have separate head and body morphs?

  • nicsttnicstt Posts: 11,715

I'd be interested in the hair, but not the rest.

3DU hair is very well done, but it usually doesn't come with any alternate textures.

I just picked her up today. I just have to say her skin is too dark. I think she and Skyler are adorable. smiley

yeah...that's what I thought too when I first saw the advert this morning.  I own skyler character, so will just make her taller and sculpt the face a bit here and there.

    So... Skyler got taller?

Not at all - they're quite identical in overall size and shape - try to load them both at 0,0,0 in the same scene. Skyler even has bigger hands. At least with Skyler 2G, but I believe the 3G version is the same size.

We can't buy just the hair? And I'm guessing Haley doesn't have separate head and body morphs?

No, no separate head and body morhps. That should be standard on all characters IMO. The Little Ones have it so you can wipe that weird grin off their faces (otherwise I'd have returned them), but not Skyler or Haley.

Yes, separate head and body morphs seriously should be standard. That's instant no-buy from me unless its extremely cheap. Though in this case, all I want is the hair. I don't understand why it must be sold together like that. Plus only offering one hair texture? What? I mean, sure , I got some hair shaders to get around that, but why?

3DU has always just sold minimal textures with their hair. Back in the early days (pre studio), it was a much bigger deal, because a lot of them never got any attention from other PAs even though they were often some of the better hairs sold at the time. These days, even if they don't, there are lots of options for those of us who don't have the patience to paint those nice hair textures.

I have this in my cart, but I'm seriously doubting I'll buy because of the lack of separate head/body morphs. I read in an earlier thread that they intentionally didn't include that with the younger character because the body didn't look right without the head. I guess it was such a huge change that the head just looked weird. Maybe they should offer a generic head morph that just scales the standard G3 head to match the body so we can have more diversity...

I also wanted to add that anyone trying to get her should wait. I noticed that Haley has a seperate top without the dress shirt in the promotional render, but the dress shirt and the top are not two separate articles of clothing. I hope this helps.

    Responding to other repsonses.
Yeah, I agree there should be more hair textures.

Given the promos, at the very least it should be possible to make the shirt invisible. Otherwise the promos are misleading.

Thanks for the heads up. This one's definitely going on the back burner

It does seem very odd that two very distinct items of clothing (a t-shirt and a dress shirt) should be merged into one. Assuming they are at least separate groups, it should be possible to make one part invisible, or that could be achieved through using transparency in the relevant material zones. That said, it would have made more sense to be separate items.

I think they are separate items, since the texture pack lists 4 items. It seems that someone neglected to mention something on the clothing set page.

With both the boots and top, the items are divided into separate materials. You can hide part of the item by either making the materials transparent, or by hiding the surface geometry with the "Geometry Editor" tool in DAZ Studio

Both can be hidden using Opacity, but for some reason the shirt does not become transparent in the viewport, only in the render. The vest becomes transparent in both.

As for hair colors, yes could be nice with some presets, however it's quite easy to change the color under Surfaces:

Today I bought Haley (character + hair). Too late I saw that she comes with Iray materials only. Okay, I have Girl 7, several megatons of other G3F skins, and shaders for the hair. The hair was the smallest problem; it works quite fine with 3Delight. Bigger problem is the distortion of clothes, as shown on Karth's UShirt, which is normally a model shirt. I am still working with DS 4.6 - could it be that this is the reason why Haley's torso bends all clothes out of shape?
