I had to do a manual install - refused to install using DIM.
All seems OK until I want to render then all I get after a few seconds is a black image!
Can someone help please?
The only thing that looks all that compelling to me is the update to morph loader pro and that looks really cool. Those features are things I've wished we had for a long time.
Regarding the install problems some are having, I went through that with 4.9 and started a thread on it. In my case I did the install for 4.9 when 4.8 wasn't fully closed and it made a mess. Furthermore, DIM couldn't properly uninstall it and I couldnt reinstall it because DIM insisted it was already installed. The solutions to my problems are here: http://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/83261/installing-studio-4-9-wrecked-everything/p1

Its in DIM for me under the updates but way too slow download speed today..... so cancelled the download and I'll try again in a few days.
Top Priority Question: Will this destroy my content?
I never upgraded to 4.9 EXACLY because of all the disaster stories about content libraries being destroyed or all custom categories being erased. All I use is custom categories and can't afford to loose them.
So ... is this remedied?
If you install the public beta (which is a 4.9.2.x release), you could run it side by side with 4.8 and see how it handles your custom categories. The 4.9 database changes adds new tables and migrates data from the old tables but it leaves your 4.8 data alone. So it is a pretty safe way to test.
The only thing to really worry about it you should make sure that you have the Postgres CMS installed, because 4.9 will not read data from the old Valentina database at all.
Servers are a bit overloaded today, we are working on seeing if there are any bottlenecks we can clear out.
in mine the resolution has changed icons and test are a lot bigger no more trouble focusing on small text and icons I like that is taking ages to load a scene been working on though only 4 figs no background or lights loaded fast prior to update maybe updating the content info of the project what's used loading all the data
So far my custom categories seem to be okay. They fixed the custom category issue with one of the last one or two upgrades to 4.9. I have loaded this version to my work computer and the small amount of custom categories I had on here to test it seem to be working correctly. But I would still do it the way DAZ_Rawb suggested first. Its a major pain to have to redo thousands of items into new categories....
If you installed via DIM then it should show as an update in the Ready to Download tab of DIM, or you can download the main installer and daz plug-ins from your Product Library. Note however that download speeds are pretty low - it was managing less than 10% of my usual rate.
Only wierd thing I have seen is with the Phtoshop bridge, which seems to be in some bizarre installed but not installed state. I'll look into that further when I need the funcitionality. I keep thinking I had to do soem manual stuff with it last time anyway. Rest came over just fine,
Oh, there is one post-install issue. With the font size tweaks, it looks like for e.g. Widescreeen, that my viewport is being cut off at the bottom.
I still can't render anything!! Everything is just black. If I can't get an answer to the problem soon I'm uninstalling 4.9.
Ahh, okay. I was about to ask, because I started downloading all my content from the second I posted this thread and I'm STILL only 36% in. No biggie though. Everything else is just fine. :)
Have you checked you have the current Default Resources installed?
Yes they are installed.
there is no reason to suppose that 5 comes after 4.9, it could easily be 4.10, 4.11, etc. The different release types are not a pure decimal system, so aren't restricted to only nine before the one higher up increments.
The 4 (the first) relates to a major release; the second part, is for relatively minor updates; and tbh, IRAY and Connect might have warranted a change, but my understanding is Daz will switch to 5 when they update the SDK.
No error message? Have you reset the render settings to default, using the button in the Editor or Advanced tab of Render Settings?
Yes render setting have been reset to default. No errors - it starts to render then after about 10 to 15 seconds it stops and I get a black image.
It doesn''t show up in DIM and the newest version I have in product library is Daz Studio 4.9 Pro .
Do I have to put it in the cart and check it out or something and if so where is really the product page?
@DAZ_Rawb: Is the installation pane built on top of Daz Connect? I frequently leave the installers intact in my downloads directory in DIM, such that I don't have to redownload my files every single time I want to use something. Is there any way to replicate that behavior with Daz Connect or am I still stuck with DIM?
Are we going to have to leave the computer on overnight updating all the metadata again?
I'm downloading it manually from the Product Library with the offline Connect authorization files; it pops up as DazStudio_4.9.2.70 which I'm assuming is right. I'm also assuming we're hitting the servers en masse which accounts for the dial-up speeds.
There's got to be a distributed way of doing this, download one, upload one, passing it along the chain.
*takes foot off cable ...* Just kidding ...

That wil be 4.9.2.70 - the download in your Product Library or DIM will be the current version.
Yes, the Install pane is installing via Connect so (unless you back-up the \Data\Cloud\1_###### folder for the product) you would need to redownload to reinstall using Connect via the Install pane. You can use the Offline installers the way you use DIM, as long as it is a copy of the files that you place in the \Data\Cloud\Install folder.
Well, I have a minor grump about the new fixed proportions of the Smart Content tab, but since I no longer need to use that for installation (which was 75% of what I used it for) I can work around it.
Good news is, for the first time in several "improvements" that seems to be my only irritiation.
Thanks Richard. And I presume DAZ Connect deletes the installer after it installs content? I don't suppose there's a way to tell it to *not* delete them?
This, by the way, is the *only* reason why I don't use DAZ Connect as much as DIM. It's a great system and it serves 99% of my needs... except that both my SSD space and data caps are limited.
Daz Connect (unless you download the offline install packages) doesn't have installers, it pulls down individual files if they are needed. The offline install packages can be archived in case you need them later (do this before installing them).
Daz Connect does not have to install to the C: drive, you can change the location in Content Directory Manager.
Updates should require less of your data cap, since Connect only downloads changed files, instead of downloading the whole package.
It's taking FOREVER for DIM to download this new update, that tells me, big numbers are trying to do the same. *sigh*
Oh that brings up an interesting question: Does DAZ have any performance difference between using SSDs and HDDs? If not, I should just migrate my entire library over to my storage drive and switch over to Daz Connect entirely... it would surely save me a lot of time from uninstalling/reinstalling packages.
