Can I Reinstall With DAZ Connect?

Hi,

I don't know why I do what I do, but this is what I did:

I bought a character/jewelry package, and this morning I noticed that I hadn't installed the jewelry.  So I went to Products/Install (name of character/jewelry), and installed through Connect.

Sometimes products in my DAZ Connect library won't show up in DS 4.9, so I usually copy/paste the files manually from the Cloud Library to My Library.

This morning, I CUT the character/jewelry files from the Cloud library and pasted them into My Library.  Sigh.

Now, I'm getting weird results when I try to load that character and jewelry.  At first, I was getting "file does not exist" and "do you wish to save this scene before closing" messages.

Then I discovered I could right-click and "merge into scene," and both character and jewelry will work.  But I'd rather just left-click to add them, like normal.

Before I did that Connect/cut from Cloud library routine, the character itself was working perfectly.  And I checked the jewelry folder, and everything's in order as far as file names.  Nothing wrong with the download files.

I even re-installed DS.  Whew.

Long story short -- is there any way I can re-install thru Connect (I'm not seeing that option in "Products" now), so I can leave the Cloud files where they should be?  I'm wondering if DS is trying to reference the Cloud library, and not finding what it wants to find.  That is the only thing I can think of.

Any help appreciated.

Thanks!

    Ok, got it. smiley

In Products, there was a colored icon representing the already installed product.

Right-clicking on that got me an "uninstall" option.  I uninstalled and re-installed thru Connect, and the character/jewelry are working perfectly, hallelujah.

Moral of the story, I guess is, do not delete Cloud files?

    Thanks anyway! :-)

Yes, removing the Connect files will almost certainly break things. You can create shortcuts to the Connect files in your regular content directory either by dragging and dropping from Smart Content or, in the current Public Beta, by finding a folder in the virtual DazConnect directory in the Content Library pane and right-clicking to create links to the whole lot at once in a chosen location.

Thanks, Richard. smiley  I did break things, indeed.

Thanks very much for the info.  I don't have the Public Beta, because DIM still won't work for me (I suspect I just need to transfer DIM to my AV's trusted group, but I keep using Connect or manual install).  I might try the Smart Content drag/drop route.  I don't know why I can't find my Connect files in DS though, sometimes.  I guess I'm just not looking in the right place.

It's all working right at the moment, praise be. smiley

    I appreciate the reply!

In the release build, without the virtual Daz Connect dierctory, then content installed via Connect will not be visible in the file based views (... Formats) except by creating links.

Ah.  OK, good to know, might save trouble in the future.

Thanks. :-)  I will be glad when the current public beta becomes the release build.  Sounds like it's quicker to link the Connect content to another runtime with the beta.

    If I'm understanding things right.
