copyrighted textures?

Hi all,

I have recently edited some textures that have come with certain products e.g. changing colours etc. Am I right in thinking that these would usually be copyrighted, so I wouldn't be able to share them with the community?

    You're right, you're not allowed to share a modified version of a texture included in a product.

    But, if they come packaged with templates and I use those to create my own textures I guess I can. I'd love to be able to give something back to the community

    That is what the templates are for.  You use them to make a completely different texture, one that is all your own work from start to finish, and then you can sell it or give it away.
