Morphing Fantasy Dress all versions $3.99

3Diva3Diva Posts: 11,973

I see that all versions of teh Morphing Fantasy Dress are on sale for $3.99. I've heard a lot about this dress even though I'm pretty new to Daz Studio and 3D art. I've been wanting to get it - as there seams to be a lot of freebies made for it turning it into many different dresses. My question is, which version should I get? I can only afford to get one so I want to get the one that will be the most versital and will be useable on the most figures. Which one will do that for me?

There is Morphing Fantasy Dress for GenesisMorphing Fantasy Dress for Genesis 2 Female, V4 Morphing Fantasy Dress, and Morphing Fantasy Dress Unimesh Fits (just to name a few, there are even more versions on sale). If I get the "Unimesh Fits" one, does that one Come With the Genesis one? Also, if I get the Genesis 2 one would I be able to use it on G2 AND all the previous generations (like G1 and V4)? Or would it only work for G2 characters? Which version is most compatable with existing figures?

Again, I'm really new to Daz and 3D art and I'm on an extremely tight budget so can only afford to get one of these. Any help you can give me in answering my questions and letting me know which one is most versital/compatable with different characters would be very much appreciated.

Oh I just noticed they have one for G3 too. That one is $6.99 though. Would that be the best one to get? Would it be compatable with all previous characters like G2, G1, and V4? Or would it only work for G3 characters?

I think in the first place you should buy the version made for your favourite figure. The textures (including freebies) are all interchangeable, maybe except of one older Stephanie generation (3? 4? - sorry, I forgot). So, if you use G3F most, take this dress. BUT: G2F dresses autofit very well on G3F, too (Genesis dresses don't, after my experience), and via autofit V4 dresses can look very nice on all Genesis generations. Not an easy decision, I know ... ;-)

Thank you for the feedback, caravalle! Indeed it is a dificult decision! If I get THIS, I see that it comes with THIS. Would that be all I'd need? Or would I have to ALSO buy the V4 Morphing Dress?

The Unimesh Fits are for MFD for V4; it makes MFD fitting Genesis, Aiko 4, Victoria 4 Elite, The Girl 4, and Stephanie 4. You would need MFD for V4 if you want to use Unimesh Fits. It is ok if you intend to work with these older figures, V4 and her derivatives. If you only want to use Genesis (and G2F), you should buy the Genesis version of MFD (and its add-on extensions, if you like). I didn't try it, but maybe the V4 + Unimesh Fits gives you more choice. I didn't know that it is for Genesis, too. MFD is a little bit of a 'science'... laugh

If you are using the dress with the Genesis figures, then you will not need the unimesh fits. Unimesh fits are only for the older generation figures, and now that we have autofit, they are not really needed anymore, and represent older technology.

If you are new to this hobby, than I suspect you are mostly using the newer figures, as they have many advantages over V4. As such my advice would be to get the MFD for G2F or G3F.

I agree, Havos. But divamakeup mentioned V4, so I think she/he wants to use mainly V4 or Genesis.

It looks like the Unimesh one comes with the Genesis one, right?

I'm not really using the newer figures as they are very expensive and do not have hardly any freebies for them.

If I get the G2 MFD will I be able to use it on V4 and G1 characters? If not, would I be able to use the V4 one on Genesis 1 and 2?

You won't be able to use the G2 one on V4 with ease, the V4 one though will autofit to Genesis without any purchases but to autofit straight to G2F you will need this http://www.daz3d.com/victoria-4-for-genesis-2-female although the results of autofit on long skirts often has issues. You can create your own clones for your own use I'll see if I can find a tutorial or thread explaining how.

If you are on a tight budget, then maybe the best bet is to get the Genesis 1 MFD. Genesis 1 can take all of V4's clothing and skins without any extra expense, and their are a lot of free characters and clothing (there is also a lot of Genesis 1/2/3 clothing for free as well, but less than V4). If you can get it on sale, then I would recommend Generation X at some point, as this will allow you to move all your Generation 4 characters onto Genesis, and after that you will not need V4 again (hence no need to spend extra money on unimesh fits).

Autofit is good, but sometimes long dresses can be a pain. They can crinkle at the bottom.

Buy the version for the figure you are using.

If you use V4 the most, get the V4 version. The unimesh fits for the V4 version help to fit it on Girl 4, Aiko 4, Victoria Elite and She Freak V4 and for more extreme morphs like amazon and bodybuilder etc.

Texture add ons for the MFD fit ALL versions, EXCEPT Stephanie 3. (So regardless of which version you have, texture add on products will work)

Excellent advice everyone, I really apprecaite it. I think I know which one to take a chance on now. Seams like I might be able to get the V4 one to fit on all of my characters ...maybe. lol With some patience. So I guess I'll go with that one. :)

Did you get the v4 version? Have you tried it out yet?

I recall that the G2F version of the MFD fixed some issues which the Genesis MFD was having. But if you're new, you'll probably be using Genesis, since the bases for all three generations of Genesis are included with the program, and there are 3rd-party addons which make backwards compatible autofit between Genesis figures and option. The long skirts are still an issue though.

It should be noted that a quite a few of the texture add-ons require various items from the expansion packs to build the complete outfit depicted. There are two expansion sets which are usually used for these. There is also a third expansion set which adds a rather nice apron.

Another base outfit with a lot of texture packs and an expansion set is the Pharohs of the Sun dress. The base dress looks very similar to the MFD, so you need to watch what base is required for a given texture set. Some freebie releases may require expansion items from the other dress's set to build their outfit.

Get the MFD for the figure you use, as people say.

I find MFD to be THE best item for G2F....I use it as a base to autofit pretty much any v4/gen dress/skirt to G2F for conversion without the divots and distortions.

The Genesis one can get the Make A mess morphs, which let you use them on other clothes., so also a good one to have.

MFD for G2F auto-fits well to G3F the others don't auto-fit around so well although it's mostly hemline and sleeves on forearms that are problems so for bare shoulder/arm and shorter hemlines you don't see any issue.

You know most of these and the expansions are $2.00 all the time for PC club and often less?

Here is MFD for G2F on G3F: all good.

And MFD for G3F on G2f: not so much.
