I bought this product, installed it with Daz Connect:

Are the hair material settings suppose to be for 3Delight only, and none for Iray?
I can use the always great and wonderful... MEC4D (she deserves it:) ) unshaven hair shaders, just supprised a new release has no Iray shaders.

Nope, no iray shaders. I've been using the hair though and it works fine with iray uber base applied.

That is indeed the case, it seems. I hadn't caught that before. It autoconverts in Iray more or less just fine, so I hadn't noticed.

Thanks, I didn't know if it was a Daz connect install issue.

I don't use Connect, so that's definitely not a factor.

Then why are the promos Iray renders? laugh

Yes, it's one of the reasons I made the post and seeing the iray renders, then getting the product and not seeing any iray presets.
I's been awhile since buying a new hair product that had no iray presets.

If I may quote SloshWerks iray hair shader "Iray handles materials differently than other render engines, and auto converting them to the Iray Uber Base rarely makes a perfect translation from older material shaders."

Just because a products doesn't have specific iray or 3DL material doesn't mean it work with either/or. You may have to do some tweaking and in some cases with complex shaders like skin for example, it will look different, but it can still be used. Slosh is selling a product, so of course the ad will make you think you can't render without them.

Just because he is selling a product, doesn't mean he isn't right.  I use both his hair shader and InaneGlory's and DestinysGarden's hair shader and there is a dramatic difference in how nice they make a hair look in Iray compaired to even using the Iray presets that come with some hairs.  Both approach hair a little differently, but they both dramatically improve how a hair looks in Iray.

All that aside -- Sloshworks' product isn't at issue here -- looking at the readme for Simple Short Hair, I think something went wrong somewhere, and maybe the settings didn't get handled properly.

    http://docs.daz3d.com/doku.php/public/read_me/index/31797/start

According to the readme, the folders and categories should be as follows

    • You can find new icons for loading this product in the following DAZ Studio Folders:

      • “People:Genesis 3 Male:Hair:smay:Simple Short Haircut”
      • “People:Genesis 3 Male:Hair:smay:Simple Short Haircut:Materials”
    • You can find new icons for this product in the following DAZ Studio Categories:

      • “Hair:Short”
      • “Materials:Iray:Hair:Hair Colors”

However, the actual directory structure (I don't know from Categories) is only

    People\Genesis 3 Male\Hair\smay\Simple Short Haircut\Materials\

All presets are in the main materials directory itself. No "Iray" subdirectory, and, as noted, no Iray presets. Either it was never meant to have Iray presets, and that part got handled improperly or, more likely, the Iray materials were accidentally saved with 3Delight settings and not Iray settings. FusionLA, you might consider filing a ticket on the item, since you're the one who uncovered the issue.

Thank you for this post,  I forgot how some people can steer off course and make an issue out of something that was never intended to be.
Yes, I know iray will convert the hair before rendering it, never said otherwise.
I used a quote and a refrence to Sloshwerks product, because I have had better results converting older hair products (without iray presets) to iray using it.

The original question asked was not to bash anyone, I would have never bought the product if I felt it was not a nice looking hair model.
But not having any iray presets had me suprised and thinking maybe Daz connect did not install the product fully.
I still need to use DIM for some items when not installed correct with Connect.

    @nemesis10
Apply one of those presets and see if you get an iray shader, I got omUberSurface when trying all of them.
