I'd like to echo Melissa's comment - EXCELLENT piece of work...  An example of a closer-to-real-life texture!
I also add points for listing all the products used in the promos.  (To me) such a simple task for a merchant to do, but reduces COUNTLESS minutes/hours for customers either searching themselves for possible 'hits' and/or creating forum posts asking others that age-old question, "...does anyone know what 'x" was used in the promo for 'y'?)  It may sound childish of me, but I actually AM biased towards products and merchants who do this is one simple step....    THANK YOU!!!!

I LOVE Opal! She went into the cart immediately, no hesitation. In fact, I'm downloading her right now. Thank you so much, Saiyaness.
    yes

Also, Melissa, that's a really nice render of Opal.

  • Thanks! The skin's so good I don't think I could have produced a bad render. wink

Yes yes yes, lovely! Grabbed her straight away. Thank you, Saiyaness smiley Only problem is my download speed seems to be non-existant tonight so I may have to wait till tomorrow to try her out.

That was an instant buy, went straight into the cart this morning. Awesome work on morph and texture, but that's what I expected to see from Saiyaness again. With only 8 items on her PA catalog so far (of which I own 7), she already has shown so much creativity, with a great mix in quality, diversity and uniqueness. Keep 'em coming ^^

Yay! I'm really pleased she's being received so well! I keep buying things for her even now, as if she's my actual grandma :p ("Yes, perfect grandma outfit, scarves, hair, etc") Haha I was going to make a commercial thread in case anyone needed advice dressing her (breast issues, easy to dial out for certain outfits) or lighting her but wasn't sure if it was worth it. :) Thank you, all! :)

That would be really nice, actually. Especially for the glutes, hips and thighs. The auto-follow wants to put strange creases in the skirts I've tried on her so far. Attached is Opal wearing the Cailin dress, (untextured,) and shows the crease under her glutes, and the odd "V" in the front where the dress is following Opal's thighs. The top two are the default pose when a figure loads. The bottom two are Plaza Romantica Stand 02, with the arm moved out of the way for the back view.

I love Opal's figure, (and her skin is perfect!) but it seems conforming clothes can be a real challenge with any shape that's not "skinny runway model" perfect.

She is great. I do a lot of urban scenes and it is so hard to find mature looking men and women. Also hard to find clothes  with skirts a good length.  I downloaded her immediately. Thanks. It would be great if you could start a collection of older people.

Ooooookay. This is out of my depth. XD Weight-mapping, that is. One tip is to increase SMOOTHING. Try going up in increments. That worked for me on some auti-fit clothing!

I tested a lot of dresses on her and they worked no problem. No weird V. The only clothing item I have trouble with (for G3) that I own is the Hellenic Chiton (ignoring boob issues).

Let me know how you go. Opal is on hand ready to test clothing for you XD I just put her in the Gardening overalls that just came out and she looks so dang cute in them. *_*

Here is Opal in some dresses (one is an auto-fit from G2) Boobs were modified and lifted, as you would when wearing clothing but no other tweaks were necessary!

I just had to buy her ... I was hesitating because I'm saving my budget for the new VWD cloth sim (which will help with dressing her) but she is exacty what I've been looking for. Now I have the problem of clothing her - most of my wardrobe is young (because that's mostly what is available). She just wouldn't look right in an ultra mini skirt. I will probably try some conversions from other generations but this is precisely why the VWD product will be a must-buy.

Anyhow, thank you for being brave and giving us a realistic older lady. I'd say I'm looking forward to the older gent but I don't use G3M (G2M is still the main man in my virtual world).

I just bought Opal - she looks just great! It think it is much, much more difficult to model and texture a realistic looking old/elderly person, male or female, than a youth. Chapeau, Saiyaness - you did a very good job! smiley

Seems to be a problem with auto transferred morphs. Maybe the one who made this dress forgot to add a rigidity map.

I wishlisted this to start because I'm trying to save some store credit for an soon to be released item.  However, I couldn't resist buying her as I love supporting the PAs who make the older, more distinguished crowd!  And, Opal looks really well done!  She looks amazing and I'll have to think of a good render for her as soon as I get her installed!  @Saiyaness Opal's skin looks amazing!

I bought her immediately for obvious reasons, but am disappointed with how clothing fits as well.  Only things that seemed to fit without looking shrink-wrapped or full of odd wrinkles and cracked mesh are the MFD and Peasant Dress (for G2F).  A friend of mine says Vagabond works and I saw her render, but other than that, clothing doesn't fit her butt and hips, and looks weird how it wraps around the breasts.  I tried the Hellenic outfit on her and can't show her from the waist down because of all the poke through due to her custom body (which I love, but DS doesn't).  HELP!

Anyway, here's a render with Opal and the MFD.

Here is another with Opal wearing the Peasant Dress for G2F.  I had to postwork the daylights out of the front of the Apron where it stuck to her crotch and inner thighs, and under the breasts.  But overall not bad.

Different pose for Opal and the Peasant Dress.  Left her standing this time so the apron wasn't so badly broken in the front.

What does the dress look like in wireframe mode? a lot of times ugly morph transfers like this happen on very dense meshes. A lot of the PC stuff in particular have super dense meshes, meanwhile other stuff like minvision or Mada's stuff (and plenty other vendors but those are 2 who spring to mind as vendors whos stuff always has really nice topology) I can transfer from genesis 1 to genesis 2 to genesis 3 and apply an extreme and custom morph and it will still look okay.

the helenistic tunic for example is one thing I remember as having a really dense mesh

also If you want to make your own custom smothed character fits for clothing, I have a tutorial that can help with that

I'm really sorry you're having so much trouble dressing her. Removing her breast morphs (Natural) will help immediately. As for her body, I made sure her important body morphs would work with clothing fits most people provide for Genesis 3 Female clothing. I haven't had to do anything but apply smoothing, even to auto-fit clothing.

As I mentioned, I couldn't get the Hellenic Chiton to work either.

Okay, here are some renders. Some are G3 clothing and some are G2. Please, don't dress her in skanky clothing. She doesn't like it!! And it weirds me out XD (How dang cute are those overalls though?)

I put her in lots of different poses just to test the clothing. Sitting will always be tricky though.

I tried every "dress" I own for G3F, (less than a dozen,) and the only dresses that didn't exhibit the problem to some degree in either or both front and back are the MFD and the Medieval Princess Dress. Checking them in Wire Texture Shaded shows the MFD and the princess dress do not have a dense mesh. Several of the other dresses are more dense, but not by much. The newest additions to my runtime, the sarong from Tropical Style Outfit and the dress from Maui Days Outfit, are both very dense meshes.

Thank you for the link to the tutorial. I've bookmarked it, and will check it out soon.

HI Saiyaness. Thanks for your input - I do have one question.

Opal has a lot of skin wrinkles which is all part of her elder charm but I notice that she has no HD detail, nor normal or displacement maps so the wrinkles do render rather flat and unreal looking for me. Is this due to bad lighting on my part or is there a trick with bump maps? I'm quite new to IRay so maybe I'm missing something.

I picked up Opal immediately... but if I saw saw Saiyaness's sample images (2:40am on this thread) I would have bought her even quicker! They are fantastic - the sexy bathing suit stands out... cute expression as well. More real looking characters please... :)

Below are some renders in different lighting. I have tried to keep them as basic as possible for ease of use. With any render, you need shadow to create dimension and shape. Flat lighting isn't going to make anything look good. :)

I just want to mention that I'm a HUGE fan of DimensionTheory's lights and I highly recommend them. I use click and go lighting all the time because I want fast and good results with no hassle x_x

I didn't use any mesh lights or anything else to add a rim or key light to highlight her or bring out the specular better for the renders below.

    So...

First, make sure the Headlamp is OFF.

1: Sun/Sky: Default settings. Horizon line lowered. Time: 9:00am. (Default is 6:00pm) It's a bit dry, but the detail is there.

    2. Dome and Scene: Dome on. Default Daz Studio HDR only (DTBRuins - it's usually there when you start a new scene) Straight out of the box. No changes.

    3. Scene only: Using Khory's Scintillant Lights for this. :) There were more dramatic choices, but I went for more even lighting.

4: Dome and Scene: Dome on. Dimension Theory iRadiance Studio HDR's. LOVE this product to death. I usually add a rim light and key light but not this time.

I don't want to spam with a million images so hopefully this helped! Let me know if you need any scene specific lighting advice :)

Thank you - those are lovely renders and I like the way you use depth of field to slightly blur the sharp edges on the jaw line, for example. I wasn't thinking of portraits, however, because she will be in a scene with more content (a room, furniture and, perhaps, other characters) so I can't use ultra close-up lighting techniques. I don't havbe the lighting rigs you mention either but I hope to build a collection of go-to lighting products for IRay (I always used AoA lights for 3Delight).

Unfortunately, my PC has had to go back to the shop for repair already (GPU faulty) so I won't be able to ttest again for a while.

Yeah, her wrinkle details aren't going to be as evident from a distance, so I see the problem there. Hmmm....if you get stuck, feel free to post here or send me a message and I will help :)

The first two light sets I used are already within Studio. Sun/Sky and Dome and Scene with Default settings (except for the different time in Sun/Sky).

Oh! Sometimes using her Translucency Red preset will help with detail. I forgot to use it for any of my renders today :p You can see the difference in these promos. She looks a bit ruddier which is good in some lighting and will show detail better.

It might look a bit more dramatic with that option. :)
