Agree about that one hair, to me it's thin and not realistic looking. For the two characters, I find them disappointing as their noses look so much alike, usually when characters come out for a figure, there's more variation. The mouths are different but the noses are really similar and IMO they look a lot more similar to the main figure than the way other figures/characters are done.
With Ron's Underwater brushes the set goes down to the $43 range, that's the only reason I'm going Pro.
What clothing item is this? I've seen it before but I can't find it or place the name....I probably even have it. Usually I'm good at finding these but lately my memory is like swiss cheese....
If I could model...I would be too. I live in NY now so....I start to get excited about "Hawaiian" 3D content...but there really has only been a few things made that have really impressed me.
Couldn't agree more! A someone that rarely purchases any of the DAZ addon characters, I was tempted by this new release, but the custom UV set turns me off quite a bit. Luckily both Lilinoe and Halina use the base G3F UV layout, so I am thinking of purchasing them to show my support to the PAs for sticking with the base UV set.
Khory, nice render!
I like Kalea, but will wait for the price to drop.
As to the Lani hair, it seems like the Shameless Rogue Outfit actually does a better job of promoting the hair than the hair's product page. http://www.daz3d.com/shameless-rogue-outfit-for-genesis-3-female-s

How is it getting to $43 range? All I get in the cart is $46 range. Am I missing something?
Here's a quick render of Kalea wearing the Hula Outfit for Genesis (available at Hivewire3D). It auto fits to G3F quite well.
Maybe it's because people keep complaining about stereotypical themed items being with other ethnic characters that they thought they better tread carefully this time, so we get bikinis instead.
To me, both of the hairsets look like the kind of hair you actually do see at the beach when people have been in the ocean and let it air dry. It's not "coiffed" at all. And barring a muumuu, which would probably be either a rigging nightmare, or have to resort to dynamics, the beachwear is actually very nice beachwear. Something that people might really wear on the beach.
The other two outfits at least have usable parts. Except for those stupid stilletto-heeled boots. The top of that one is surprisingly plausible, though. Good to see that. I don't get the point of the chain on the other top. I think it's only there so the cog dangling from it can outline the girl's navel.
It is nice to see another official ethnic morph. And a properly ethnic looking skintone. I notice that while on the tall side, she's not the usual DAZ giantess either. Very nice indeed.
It looks less calculated to me. The contents of the bundle have a more kitchen sink feel than other bundles whose theme is well defined. The two outfits could have been bundled with any figure set.
Overall I like the Kaylea bundle, good realistic skin, hair and outfit sets that has more flexible usage compare to other pro bundle such as Mei Lin. Problem with Mei Lin bundle is that you can't do much creative things with it outside of it's theme, if you do it'll look odd and out of place.
I rather have non fantasy bundle that I could use often compare to fantasy bundle that is costly and I only used once and forget about it.
That pretty much covers it. PA's (who are the ones who do all the products for those bundles) are far less willing to do ethnic anything because then they run the risk of negativity about their work and by extensions themselves.
You might be right unfortunaly!
I just assumed based on the Fact that the other 2 Chars use standard UVs that there are no custom ones...
It is one of the reasons I don't buy them anymore; that and the price. I've got the other two characters in my cart, may get them - love their look.
I know I've critcized the themes for non-white characters, but I do think the PAs mean well when they create these things. If anything else, the blame -for lack of a better word- should be laid at Daz's feet, because I belive they're the ones that pick the items to put in these bundles... though I admit I'm not 100% sure how it all works (I suspect they either commission or ask that these items be made for these bundles?). So it kinda reflects poorly on them for, say, shoving nearly all Voodoo and Tribal items with Monique 6 (even Darius got contemporary items); to say nothing of Mei Lin and Lee from the 6th gen.
If that is true in this case (and I suspect it's pure speculation), then the PAs involved are missing the point.
There is nothing trite or stereotyping about Hawaiian women wearing traditional Hawaiian garb, given that's something most of them often do, either for special events or for tourism stuff.
What's the difference from the custom uv set and the standard? And their pros and cons?
I do have to say. this is one of my favorite skins, and I render primarily very pale ladies. Not the hugest fan of the morph: too smooth for my tastes. I'm a bit confused by some of the comments because I absolutely love the hairs Lani in particular is probably the best looking curly ethnic hair I've seen (at least that wasn't made with strand hair) I think perhaps some of the promos maybe have the hair to shiny, which looks weird with what we'd expect the texture to be, but turn it down (or use your own shader setup as I do) and it looks absolutely stunning.
Both the pros and cons are overstated imo. the pros are mainly minimizing texture stretching (not super noticeable at all for figures like this one, but really useful for extreme morphs The girl figures, with there giant eyelids are a pretty good example of where alternate uvs come in handy) The cons are now mostly things that utilize the Layered image editor and base uvs like some of the makeup addons out there. There also used to be issues in previous generations where PA skins would require one of the UVs which sucked if you wanted the PA skin but not the character with the required uvs. With this generation however, the PAs have stuck pretty entirely to the base uvs, so that at least is less of a worry.
I want her but cannot get her or anything online for a while that is until I figure out my payment method problem and my computer problems.
Aaaannnddd... A pretty quick render. 7 minutes to set up and about the same to render.
Result = boring and erasing of any serious or fantasy ethnical component. Sad but don't unexpected. Solution = blender.
Returning to topic, I like much the new girl and I'm happy with the in coming guy.
Lovely render! The hair looks rather nice here.
I'd promised (myself) not to buy any more female characters but I really like the look of this one and with the promised discount on the next male and the extra discounts on Alessandro's latest beasties and Ron's latest brushes I decided to make an exception. (And I was paid last Friday, picked up a GC in the ongoing offer so have "money to burn" for a while)
This!
Very lovely.
I don't think it looks wierd, but then I'm used to seeing hair with some shine to it.
Nope. Standard Operating Prodedure these days is for the Character base to have its own UV set, but for the Add-on's to use the Figure UVs. Mind you, once you have that character base you can use its texture on any other character made for that figure by swapping the UV in the Surfaces pane. But you hit the wall once you want to apply that texture to a different figure that doesn't support it.
Or, in other words, down the road, if there's another major game changer in the UVs with G4 or G5, something like Cayman Studios's UV geografts may be able to make the Add-on character UVs transferable. But Kaleya's own texture will probably be orphaned, since I suspect it may turn out to be the only texture that uses it.
Minor game changers, like the move from Genesis to G2 will probably be adequately covered by something like Slosh, or another vendor's Add-on packages of earlier character UVs. Those make it possible for G2 to use textures all the way back to gen4.
Thanks Khory. I did a search for Dress, Gown, and something else and that did not show up. Really wish there was a listing of items used in promos... :)
I will be interested to see how Kimo looks and what his content packet will include. I'm also curious about how well Kalea will do sale's-wise. So far the Kalea character hasn't generated a lot of buzz anywhere I've seen.... I'm frankly a bit surprised considering this is the first day of release. Even the male characters generate mor buzz than this one has.
As far as content goes I think it suffers from being a bit average. Nothing really pushes the envelope or strikes me as utterly something I must have *now*. I think including more dramatic or must-have content in the pro pack would've generated more interest in this character.
