Kalea & Kimo 7

Well now... This is new. Guess we can add Tropical to the covered ethnicities list.

Plus, the fact that she's out this early (and given the improving trend of male reciprocation) says we might get a counter-part later this month. :)

UPDATE: Updated discussion title to include Kimo 7.

And they annouced her male counterpart too! Thats all it took for me to grab the starter bundle, or tryi to... Now if we could only get Darius and Monique i'd be a truly happy camper.

Well, that and the big note on her sale page that says, "Buy Kalea 7 or her bundles and save an extra 30% of Kimo 7! (releasing later this month)"

I'm kind of surprised by the "or" in that sentence, myself. Almost all of the previous "buy this figure, get a discount on the next" specials have been limited to purchasing the pro bundle for the first figure to qualify for the discount on the second. This is the first one In a while that hasn't been limited that way.

I think that Lilinoe is the prettiest of the three, but looking at her I feel like she looks more like an FWSA character than the FWSA one does. Maybe I'm crazy. I like all their names too.

Interesting how understated the offer is that if you buy a related new item (ELEPHANTS) you get considerably more savings on them and the bundles.

I like this earlyish month - later month schedule better if they stick with it.

Welcome Kalea 7! She looks like a great contribution to the G3F gene pool; she is already in my cart.

The bundles are only partially interesting to me: Oleander Hair has a nice style and the flower is beautiful (oversized Oleander or Hibiscus?), but from the promo this hair looks pretty thin. Probably you must load it at least double to make it look normal. Maybe it is the fault of the promos, which are not very good - look at the figure's shoulder in the main picture. Lani Hair looks very nice, but again the strands are a bit coarsely drawn. Where is the fine, life-like hair structure we know from older products? Maybe this coarseness is due to any new technology, but then I prefer the 'old' style.

Shameless Rogue seems to have the good quality we know from its authors, but the set looks too much like the usual high heel-'adventurer' stuff we know from 10,279+ other examples. The 'exotic' clothes are lovely, but a bit too expensive to buy them separately. Lilinoe looks sweet, but mundane. I would prefer FWSA Halina; in this character at least you can see the Kalea figure. Finally the Beauty Poses and the DA Beach Girl Poses: Sorry, but those sets look like not only one, but two contributions to the G3F pinup poses inflation...

I like the two included characters, but not keen on the main one. Nothing in Kalea, makes me want to pay the extra.

    Might get those.

I get what you're suggesting; although I think both look like FWSA chars. It is the strong black eyebrows in part I suspect; I often remove them from FWSA characters, as I like what they produce, just wish they did a no eyebrow option

It's weird because when I directly compared them the images looked rather different, but when I look at the face pics of Lilinoe my head just screams Quinn (and maybe Caro?) from Izabella. I'm not saying it's a bad thing, just confusing.

Overall I guess it's nice to have an islander bundle with some islander stuff? I think it'd have more impact on me if Victoria wasn't already super tuned to be bikini beach model everything.

Nice there is some difference; just cause I'm a white dude doesn't prevent me from appreciate ethinic diversity; plus I need it for what I'm attempting.

Wow a Hawaiian couple? That was unexpected : )

Kalea is beautiful, can't get her now so she went to my wishlist.

Dying to see her male counterpart!

I so hope native american couple is also in the works!

I really like that she seems to use the Base UV.

I never really understood the upside of those character specific UVs...

YES. This is the type of product I want to see!

She doesn't look like a white girl with a spray tan. And we're getting a male counterpart, too? Am I dreaming? Is this real life?

    Haha, yesssssss! Nice one, Daz!

I agree with you here. I've noticed this with many of the new PC hair items, some of which I've ignored because they just don't look as good as older style hair. It reminds me of poser's lousy dynamic hair, but styled in a decent way. I'm assuming the PA is using some sort of tool to grow and style hair that is strandbased, but to make them manageable, they have to make the strands vastly larger than real hair is...making it look even more fake than the less "realistic" approach that's been used for ages.

  • Bravo Daz! I most certainly am *very* pleasantly surprised by Kalea and Kimo!

That sound you hear is me blowing the dust off my credit card.

Base looks good, I prefer the fuller figure of FWSA Halina looks more like something you would see more of on a beach vs the  thinner more defined body of lilnoe more like something you would see on the catwalk. Tropical clothes look interesting and different, preference is on the Oleander Hair other just looks to wild and curly for my tastes. Poses just not that much different than what is already currently available, with a Hawaiian look model, I would of gone with a Hula Outfit complete with hawaiian Leis and right poses to complete the look

Kalea 7 pro bundle went right in the cart.  Love the Lani Hair. It looks like the perfect "twist out" style for natural hair that Black women, including myself are wearing. Love both the characters.  Could have done without the usual adventure and desert warrior outfit, don't we have enough of those?  They could have kept the theme and threw in some flowy island dresses or something. Anyway, love her and can't wait for the guy.

I like elements of this pack, but don't like the pro bundle or a lot of the contents. I may just pick up her base. Lani hair looks great- from a distance, but up close it doesn't look as good as I'd like. Do like Kalea's skin, although the makeup items look strangely garish but that is sadly the trend I see in most figures released. I do like her base no- makeup option.

    Overall, I'm kind of neutral.

I probably will pick up the male figure and wait for Kalea to drop in price. Nothing must-have for me in this bundle.

Kalea 7 surprised me this morning. So glad to not see another White character. There was enough that I liked that I went pro (thank you Visa). I do wish her poses had been somewhat more Hawaiian-centric other than the one sorta hula look. I have plenty of "look at me I'm a pretty Geneisis 3 Female" pose packs to last me. I know they're good old standbys, but wish there was some more creativity there (assuming DAZ allows that).

    Seriously.

Like, I understand why the Reptilian 6 might need to have a unique UV to mesh with tails and extra legs and whatnot. But 'slightly differently shaped person'?

Yeah the minor upsides of slightly nicer textures really aren't worth the sacrifices of being on a different UV set to all your other things. I like that a couple of the Genesis 3 Originals are on the base uv set (shame the rest aren't.) The only one where you could maybe be okay with it is Bethany, but then George doesn't have his own UVs and he does just fine.

The current technical limitations of our hair system far more than a teeny stretch on one part of a HD texture (not to mention those ones where they draw the glute creases onto the texture so they only work in a straight standing pose -_-)

(I hate to be a bit of a jerk here but... ) Kalea looks really nice... But I'm still waiting for Lilith 7 XP

If the UVs are different does that mean some of the geografts would not be compatible as well?

  • lx_2807502lx_2807502 Posts: 2,996

Note to self: check things for self instead of relying on forum info >.>

If you mean the "Anatomical Elements" then no they work just fine. Anything that has a texture to match her skin should be allowing for her UVs anyway, and she can wear other base UVs just fine (which is one of the main reasons custom UVs on most characters is so pointless.)

MelanieL: Yeah, I think that's really stupid.

MelanieL: Yeah, I think that's really stupid.

I'm with you on that! I really can't see the point, except (as you said earlier) for extreme characters like the Reptilian or the Minotaur.

I'm just glad that most of the PA's use Base UVs for G3F/G3M so you don't have to have all the (frequently similar-looking) base figures to use some of the nice skin textures.

  • Oso3DOso3D Posts: 15,085

Because the OTHER part of that is that it makes it harder to use the cool new skin with your other stuff.

I like the concept of 'big pot of content,' where you can mix and match to create interesting stuff that's more uniquely yours. And, well.

The mix and match ability is absolutely the best thing about the Genesis series. Obviously you can still use the new uv on a different character shape, but then what was the point of making it a unique uv in the first place when they're designed to all be mixed and matched >.>

Still no customer renders of Kalea? I was hoping we could get some to see how she really looks, given the reputation of official figure promos.

I'm hoping there are some authentic Hawaiian items in the works for both Kalea and Kimo. Haku leis, Neck leis both with all the different kinds of flowers and leaves (kukui nut, pikake, ilima, plumeria, orchid, tuberose, maile/ti leaves, etc.) Aloha Shirts (both the touristy kind and the dressy kind men in Hawaii wear for work) for Kimo, mu'umu'u and looooong hair for Kalea (not the house robe looking ones. There are some very pretty form fitting kind) Instruments: 'uli 'uli, ipu, ukulele, pahu drum, puili sticks. Koa inspired furniture. Even environments. Hawaiian Heirloom bracelets....Ohhhh. It would make this islandgirl quite happy.

If I was doing Genesis 3, I'd be all over this -- we went to Hawaii for first time last month and we're absolutely in love with the place.

I did a quick test render of her late last night. Nothing fancy due to the hour. I cropped the image a bit for the forums.
