Moon base Alpha
I'm trying to build the walls that are shown on the moon base Alpha in the show Space 1999.I can't get them looking right though.
Does anyone knows where I can find walls that looks similar to the walls in the show Space 1999?

Ask and ye shall receive... there are a lot of 3D versions of the old Anderson series models out there for free, though UFO is a bit better represented.

Thanks for the link.
If you find any more Space:1999 freebies, please let me know so I can add them to the list...

Hiya guys! I'm a bit of newbie to all this, so hopefully you may be able to give me a few pointers (with any luck!).
I'm a bit of a retro SciFi fan myself (showin me age now lol) and I'm hoping to play around with a few renders and suchlike for shows like Time Tunnel, Star Trek, Galactica, V, Thunderbirds and of course Space:1999.
however, there doesn't seem to be a large amount of '99 models out there. Don't get me wrong, I have the awesome Alpha model listed above, plus moon buggys, eagles, comlocks etc. But does anybody know of any Eagle and Traveltube interiors? Is there a vintage thread somewhere I might have missed? Hope some of you guys can help! Many thanks ????
Try Sharecg.
I got Thunderbirds 1,2,3 and, 4 from there. Although, I wish there were more Captain Scarlet models out there.
many thanks ????. Already have TBs 1 - 5 although don't have FAB1 yet. All the other shows seen to be well catered for, 99 is a sad exception it seems lol. That said, the island and laugh bays from TB would be nice lol. And a V shuttle, stuggling a bit there too lol. Finding uniforms for g2 can be a struggle too. I've created new textures for existing garments, but I don't have Victoria or other characters, so that's proofing to be a learning curve lol ???????? www
oh oops. I shortcutted an emoji happy face. But it came our as a load of question marks. I assure you all its not a punctuation thing hehe
I don't have Thunderbird 5. I've never really looked for FAB 1. I was happy just to have a model of Thunderbird 2
A couple of weeks ago, I downloaded a Sash. The idea was to create a set of new colours/textures and add the International Rescue Logo to them. I was also trying to find the hats/caps that were similar to the ones used in the original.
I only really love Thunderbirds and Captain Scarlet. But, I've never thought about looking for Captain Scarlet models before.
Turbosquid could be another site which has Gerry Anderson models (I've not checked), but I think most of the models on the site are "pay to use".
There's also "Foundation 3D" which you could try. I'm pretty sure that you just have to sign up to download models.
Foundation 3D is out of commission for the moment. The site owner hopes to get it runn8ing again, but the way the message was told in the ongoing Trek thread, it could be week or more likely months.
Sincerely,
Bill
Oh dear. That explains why I can't get on there. :(
Thanks for the update.
oh dear. Thought it was just me having issues lik.
I know what you mean about TB2 lol. I love all of Gerry Andersons work. The miniature teams created amazing effects considering the budget available at the time. Would love to be proficient enough to create 3d models myself, but with 4 kids needing lots of attention, I just don't get enough hours to sit down and create anything more complex than a box hehehe. The free stuff that's been out there already is amazing though
An oldie but a goodie for Space 1999 fans.... the Eagle Boneyard.
TB2's definitely one of the all time greatest designs in SF... I think, in part, that's due to the fact that it was one of the first "futuristic" vehicles that looks llike it was actually builf for it's intended purpose rather than just to look "fast" and "cool" by the design standards of the time. Ironically, the result is that TB2 looks like it could still be part of our current future, whereas the original TB1 and TB3 designs are rather glaringly products of the 1960s. The other main Anderson vehicles that have held up really well to the test of time, IMHO, are the ultra-sylized Angel Interceptors from Captain Scarlet, Sky 1, Skydiver and the SHADO Mobiles from UFO, and the Eagles and Hawks from Space 1999.
By the way, for those who don't already know, the first 13 episodes of the new CG animated Thunderbirds series from WETA are now available for free viewing in the states if you have Amazon Prime. TB2 looks as great as always and the new TB5 design is fantastic.
I thought the CGI thunderbirds was good, but still prefer the supermarionation version. And oh did I miss Barry Grays incidental music too. Quite looking forward to the anniversary episodes, using actual models. The interceptors, eagles and thunderbirds are all up there with the most iconic ships ever designed....the enterprise, discovery, the Falcon, the Liberator, vipers etc.
Yeah. I think most fans still prefer the originals, but the problem with the new show isn't the talent involved... I know some of the people working on it and they're serious TB fans. Rather, the problem is that the episodes are only 22 minutes long, whereas the original TB series eps clcked in at 50 minutes an ep. That's a LOT more time to develop more complex plots and add all the incidental world building stuff that made the TB universe so fascinating. Ironically, the original TB was supposed to be a 30 minute show as well, but after seeing the first episodes SIr Lew Grade very wisely told Anderson to go back and double the show's length.
Oh yes, no argument there... although I have to say that while I totally love the insectoid look of the SHADO interceptors, they were some of the least practical designs ever when viewed from a military standpoint. I can just imagine the poor SHADO pilot recruit getting his first briefing. "Wait sir... you mean we only have ONE missile, and after we fire it at a much faster, far better armed alien vessel, we're essentially defenseless?" "Yes Pilot, but on the positive side, you DO get to hang around with all those gorgeous Moonbase girls for as long as you manage to survive."
Per a post in the Trek thread, Foundation3D is on-line and accessible once again! I tried it myself and was able to reach the site and log into my account.
Sincerely,
Bill
