Looks pretty cool. Iray has a lot of non-obvious controls in the render, shader, and lighting settings so it's a fruitful area for the enterprising vendors to offer simplifications to people. Good value in that and this looks like one such product focused on simplifying the tone mapping settings. I like the idea, also interested in hearing people's experiences.

I'm looking forward to giving it a test run.  I've tried playing around with the tone mapping, but most of what I can do on my own tends to not look great.  I'm hoping this will help with some specific looks I've been trying to get.

I didn't realize there was a saturation setting for iRay.

I just bought it and tried it and I must say, from the little time I spent experimenting with it, I like it so far. You get to play around with 3 different areas of setting to get the look that you want. Sometimes I don't like my images to have that "colorfulish" look, so this is is great and saves me time from doing post-work. The image attached is more or less what I had in mind when I went in using this product....it's not a fully completed render - I killed it after 7 minutes. Note that I used Render Studio lighting and background with Tonal Rage for this image.

Looks like it will be a great render once it's done cooking!  I have Tonal Rage sitting in my cart.  I should be checking out today so I'll get to play with it tonight!

Rage? Not range? Oh dear. I so hate having to battle with my software...

I've been playing with this for a while - fascinating - and quietly going nutz trying to figure out what gets changed each time (treating this like a learning experience laugh)

Does this add to render time?  Products like this fascinate me.

I picked it up but I still have not had the time to really try it out. What little time ive had to mess around with it has me more than anxious to play with it more.

...yes, comes in handy for simulating different types of film.

it's great for when you want your image to have that "desaturated" look, which I tend to lean towards when doing portraits.

To answer my own question -- using Tonal Rage doesn't seem to extend render times. laugh

In case it helps anyone make a decision, I'm seeing how this could be used as a fine-tuning mechanism.  If the scene looks flat, punch it up with the contrast settings.  Environment too green, add a warm tint.  The saturation settings yield interesting results, and b/w images can be used for masks in postwork, as the product page says.  There are also possibilities for compositing two images, tinted with different colors.  Endless uses, seems like the product will come in handy.

This product offers useful shortcuts, but you can change these settings (saturation, white balance, gamma, highlights and shadows (crush blacks) ) manually in the Tone Mapping tab of the Render Settings. I see no magic here, just handy helpers.

Handy helpers is a good term. smiley  Plus, it introduces some of us to settings we wouldn't think to use otherwise.

Tonal Rage seemed to punch up a scene I'd put together.  It'll be useful for me, I think.

I purchased this product, it was worth the money to learn about these settings (and have an easy way to change them.

I gave this a spin yesterday.  I started with my base scene rendered and then changed the tone mapping with a couple of the different presets and I liked having the changes just one click away.  Last render still running now is the B/W preset.  I really enjoyed exploring and using this and it was definitely worth getting as it adjusts settings I've been too confused about to play with up to now.

I also picked this up for several reason - as others have stated its handy, and i don't always have a lot of time to just play with dials and sliders.  B - I generally have no idea what I am doing in this area and again, as others have said its a nice way to learn some of this stuff.

Liking it so far as well. Though I pretty much pick up all of DT's Daz Studio and Reality lighting products thanks to his early support of Reality  (Any chance for the original skies of reality to get an Iray update?)

Thats generally my perspective on products here at daz. I dont know how alot of the stuff works and I dont have the time to really learn it. So if a product will help me with my render speed/quality, im interested.
