OT: Octopus and Coconut Shell

Did you see this? And he's smart enough to take it back up the slope to do it again. Very smart animal! (Click on the image and the video will start)

    Yes, they're scary smart. Scary because it's news to us and we have to think of them differently. I saw a video (sorry no link) of an octupus and a ball which he managed to push away from him then he chased after it and then did it again. Read an article a few years back that said they have 'brain' neurons in their arms and smell with them too. And the ones in 'captivity' can recognize different people by touching them--and change colors in response. There seems to be 'will' there, not just 'blind' instinct. 'Blind instinct' as a concept has been fading over the decades. Heck, anyone who knows cats know they have will, they make up games and make up the rules for the games they play (as in when and how they win and you lose laugh ).

    What got me was how he carried it back up the slope to play again. (and how FAST he got back in. WOW.) 

    He enjoyed rolling down the hill! I wonder how old the octopus is- if it was an adult, that would make it even more awesome!

    I think that the thought of a any octopus playing is an amazing thing.  So much we don't know and havent bothered to learn because then we have to change our actions...
