Pixium Dress materials don't work and display error message

barbultbarbult Posts: 26,408

I bought the Pixium Dress in a recent sale. I loaded the dress, but none of the dress materials will apply to the dress. I get an error message that says "An error occurred while reading the file, see the log file for details". I DO have the Pixium Dress selected in the Scene pane when I try to apply the dress materials. I installed with Daz Connect. Do these materials wok for anyone else? I submitted a help request, but I hoped somebody here could confirm the error or tell me how to get it working.

The log file says:

"2016-16-03 22:16:27.865 Selected node(s) not a valid hierarchy
2016-16-03 22:16:27.865 Error reading file, see log for more details." (Not very helpful when the log says to look at the log!)

I think that's the same dress that I couldn't load materials for.  I believe I ended up loading the materials manually, or using texture packs.

Thanks for the prompt reply! How do you load materials manually? Do you mean load the JPEG texture files into the Surfaces pane? That sounds like no fun!

Confirmed here too. None of the mats work and I get the same error messages.

Thanks, SassyWench. I hope CS will fix it.

Has anyone submitted a support ticket?

  • barbultbarbult Posts: 26,408

Yes I did. I mentioned that in my initial post. wink

Yes, but I must have dreamed up that manual import.  I just checked and there are no maps for that dress in Textures/Neftis/Pixium Dress, just tiling textures.

So maybe I used texture packs.  It's been a long time since I tried to use that dress, but I did remember not being able to load the additional texture files.

I'm glad you submitted a support ticket. :-)

Hm, odd. Just tried it here and I have no issues. I tried three different materials and they all applied without error. Was there a specific one you had issues with?

I couldn't get any materials except the originals to work.  But if you can use the extras without error, maybe we can re-download and problem solved. :-)  That's a pretty dress.

I think I bought mine when it first came out. So if it was updated in between, you might have a newer version than what I have. Maybe it got broken during an update?

I just checked: I got mine Sep. 29, 2014 and have not updated it since.

I downloaded with Daz Connect just yesterday. I can't get any of the materials files that came with the product to load.

I tried all of them now and they all work without issue. The materials are quite simple, they just use fairly small tiling textures and the colors come mostly from the diffuse color combined with a black and white map (there are 21 maps included).

Mine are installed from a zip file (2014). Maybe it is an issue with the connect install? You could try to download the zip file and see if that works (or use dim).

2014? Wow, I didn't realize it was that old. I looked at the readme just now. It says it was released 2014-05-14 - so almost 2 years ago.

The base materials sets worked for me on a random test. Are you unparenting the clothes from the figure? I did wonder if the issue was a hierarchcial materials preset, though it isn't marked as such.

Good catch Richard. I just tried it and I do get an error if the dress is not parented/fit to G2F. If fit to G2F it works here.

You know what - the leaves surface texture doesn't map properly either. The texture file in the diffuse color is horizontally flipped from the UV map for that surface. I'll update my help request with that info, too. Oh, and on the material that loads with the dress, the sheer fabric diffuse uses dress 20 texture file but the specular uses dress 18, which looks like a total mismatch if you compare the two images.

That's the trick Richard! The materials will not load if the dress is not parented to a Genesis 2 Female character.

It does not work if the dress is unparented from the Genesis 2 Female.

It does not work if the dress is loaded in the scene by itself.

It does not work if the dress is autofit to a Genesis 3 Female.

I updated my help request to include this information.

Just re-installed thru Connect and re-checked.  The materials are working, when the dress is parented to G2F. :-)

Edit -- materials won't work when the dress is auto-fitted to G3F, as you said, barbult.  That is strange.  First time I've encountered that.

Another Edit -- texture pack materials will work on the surfaces though, with autofit. :-)

Try applying when the dress is fitted and parented to G2F, then save a materials preset for the dress (or whichever item(s) from the set you want) - I think that will work on an unparented or AutoFitted dress. The presets should, I think, be tagged H. Materials not just Materials.

Here are the images I sent to Customer Support with a second help request about the incorrectly mapped surfaces for Pixium Dress. The workaround for the UV mapping issue on the leaves is to use the Layered Image Editor to flip the diffuse map horizontally.

Are the leaves on both sides 'off'?

I've seen that type of problem when mirroring a part of the mesh and not editing/accounting for it with the UV layout.

Yes, Richard this works. Thank you for the problem diagnosis and workaround.

As long as I was resaving the material preset, I used LIE to flip the bad leaf texture. Then I used LIE Baker to save the material preset. There are two annoying things with LIE Baker in this scenario:

    1. It won't work on parented objects. It claims it finished, but it doesn't make the texture files. Because Pixium Dress only works on G2F if it is parented, I had to unparent it to save the baked texture. This is a lesson I learned the hard way recently and had to relearn while trying to fix the Pixium materials.
    2. The material preset saved by LIE Baker doesn't show up in Smart Content Saved Files, like it would if I saved a material preset from the Daz Studio menu. I had to go hunt it down in the Content Library Daz Studio Formats section and categorize it myself.

Anyway, this is way too much work to fix all the presets that come with this product. I hope customer service fixes these issues.
