How would I go about shading DAZ Horse 2 in Iray?

Hi Everybody,

I want to use daz horse 2 in iray but im not sure how I should shade it. Usually, if I dont know how to shade something for iray (or im being lazy) I just use the uber base and call it good.

Im wondering if anyone has found a good method for shading horse 2.

    This is an example of the DAZ Horse 2 "out of the box" with just Iray skydome.

    I just convert it. Sometimes I grab a hairdo and use the characteristics for Daz Horse 2 coat, plugging in the horse textures as applicable.

     

  • Well that looks pretty good. Seems again that my choice of shaders may be secondary to my choice of lighting. It would be natural lighting...

    Hey Will, could you write a quick 'for dummies' explanation of what your method is??

    Hairdo= human hair? ?  Which 'characteristics' do you plug in where? I'd like to try your method!

    What I do is I find a hair that has a look I like in Iray, then copy it to the horse, and swap out texture maps.

    Edit: Copy, as in: open up the hair surface, copy one of the hair material zones, paste to the horse coat or whatever, change texture map back to horse stuff.

    In my case, I found Sapphire hair to have a look that I like almost above anything else. So... copy that, change the diffuse texture map, erase any hair-specific stuff, then maybe tweak some of the colors a little.

    Will can you post a quick render so we can see what the end result of your method is? I think I understand what your talking about, its just hard for me to picture without my pc in front of me.
