PC advice

There is too much difference between those pc?

Desktop PC: I7 4790k, 16 GB and GTX 980

or

Desktop PC: I5 4440, 16 GB and GTX 970

I have a notebook with I5 2450, 8 GB and no graphic card. It take many hours to render a basic scene

PD. Money is a problem

Thanks!smiley

Either one will be a big upgrade from what you have now, especially with Iray rendering since it relies on a beefy Nvidia card. I would go with the core i7 myself.

I just got a new rig with the Skylake 6700K, 16 gig 2800 DDR4 and a 970 with 4 gig DDR 2 days ago and so far of all the iray renders I have tried nothing has gone over 10 minutes, so it's looking good so far.

You will never regret getting more. You'll always regret getting less.

  • first one i7 with the gtx 980 even better with a second gtx 980 if you can

  • There is too much difference between the first and the second?

the i7 4790 is a 4 core CPU with 4 hyperthreads and a 8MB cache, the i5 4490 is a 4 core CPU with no hyperthreads and 6MB cache. That i7 is and older CPU but more recent than the i5 and performs on average 15% faster. For 3D work outside of GPU rendering it will be a noticeable difference, for CPU rendering it will be a significant difference.

The GTX 970 and the 980, the 980 has 384 more shader cores and a higher RAM clock-speed so if rendering in Iray is the goal here the 980 is clearly going to outperform (speed, not quality) an equally "RAM Sized" 970 for those reasons and others. So again, big difference.

and the 980 gtx would be better more power speed better for your renders if your budget allows it go for it you don't want to skimp if you can afford better so you can do bigger better more complex renders at mid to  high settings and get the most out of your daz bought content after all you probably invested a lot in daz product so you want to get the best you can out of it and not restrict yourself in what you can and can't include in a scene and if you ever plan on creation of your own content you need a decent computer

AngelReaper How much time it take you to render "Kings Court 2"? Which pc you have?

    Thanks!

I recently bought an i7 with a 980 card and I'm very pleased. I've owned an i5 and having those hyperthreads are worth the extra cost. I don't know if DS uses the CPU enough to warrant them, but other things will.

It will...if you render in 3DL, Studio will use as many cores as you can throw at it, and yes HT cores count.  Same for Iray...
