"DAZ Studio Pro 4.9" vs "DAZ Studio Public Build + Beta+"

Hi, quick question - which is better, the standard "DAZ Studio Pro 4.9", or the"DAZ Studio Public Build + Beta+" - why have two of them at all? The space on my computer is reducing rapidly, but am afraid of uninstalling either one of them till I know which is more appropriate to keep.

Also I seem to still have v4.7 (of both!) in my DAZ3D folder listing in the Start menu - do they not install over each other and eliminate wasted space? Is it safe for me to use the Microsoft Uninstall to get rid of the earlier versions or will I lose stuff?

Thanks all!

The beta is a newer version, but it is a beta - a tested by a small gorup but only now opened up to general use version - so it is more likely to have issues. You can have one beta and one release version installed, so adding a later release or beta build should have removed the older if theya re all the same bit depth (32 vs 64).

  • Thanks Richard! .Looking in my files Explorer, I seem to have DAZStudio4 and DAZStudio4 Public Build appearing in both my "Program Files" and "Program Files (X86) ... so I'm thinking that the newest 4.9 is in "Programs" as it's a 64-bit computer, and the older stuff in the X86 can be deleted, what do you think? :)

  • I just did a files comparison between the two and it's as I guessed above ... and there are only a few DLLs in the old one that aren't in the new, so I think I'll delete that folder. The only thing concerning me is a whole bunch of .dmc files of characters and figures ... should I transfer those, do you think?

The .dmc files are Mimic configuration files, to tell LipSync which morphs to use for speech matching. LipSynch, if you use it, is 32-bit only. You should have proper uninstallers for the older versions, rather than deleting the fodlers manually which may leave registry or other references behind that could cause issues.

  • Okay great, thanks Richard - will take a closer look in the morning, just off to bed. It's 10pm here in Spain. :D  I appreciate your help!
