New DS install and content path issues

Okay, just got a brand new high end rig and since I was unable to connect to the internet for the first day, I installed everything from my backups. I made a complete backup of my DAZ folder in my documents and after installing DS 4.8 just copied over the complete folder. When I open DS and try to configure the paths like I had before, it doesn't seem to be reading them correctly and when I load any of the genesis 3 characters I get data errors and the blocky figures show in the viewpoint. All my poser runtimes load perfectly following the same re-install method. I also noticed a couple of scripts i tried give me errors also even though they are showing in the content area. I am not a DIM user and don't want to redownload everything.Any ideas on why this didn't work as expected?

Did you copy both \DAZ 3D\Studio\My Library from your Documents folder and \My DAZ 3D Library from the Public Documents folder? Assuming you were using the default paths, of course.
Thanks Richard, yep, copied both. I finally got it working. Tried several different variations of the paths to the content and it finally recognized them all, Whew. was not looking forward to re-installing everything.
thanks for the reply!
These things could potentially be simpler if you got away from the defaults and just put everything in one root folder in a location other than "My whatever" or any of the Microsoft defaults.
Use the Instalaltion tab of DIM's preferences (gear icon at top-right) if you install via DIM, and the Content Directory Manager in DS (Content Library option menu, or a button in the Content Library tab of Edit>Preferences) to set your preferred paths.
For future reference; note that "reinstalling everything" does nothing except waste time and your download bandwidth in over 99% of cases where you get those data errors and blocky figures. The problem isn't that your content is badly or not installed, it's that D|S is looking in the wrong place for all of your properly installed content. Changing a few D|S settings is a lot faster than a complete wipe-and-install, which far too many people do (sometimes more than once) without pausing to think about it. It's a solution to the wrong problem.
Actually, user run applications should not be allowed to write just anywhere. Microsoft finally got it mostly right.
Richard,
I can see I wasn't clear. The you in my statement was the OP (or user). My point was that the content doesn't need to be scatterd in more than one root directory. I (incorrectly) didn't also specify that the DIM paths needed to match the actual content path (I was going to say that that I thought that obvious but the forums demonstrate that many folks don't understnad the realtionship between DIM and Studio).
And for daywalker: Microsoft isn't qualified to tell me how to use the resources in my computer. You sound like a corporate IT person. My use of my computer isn't debateable.
Well, I'm actually talking from a Linux/UNIX perspective, where normal users cannot save files in random locations around the computer.
