Actually, it really is getting easier and easier for me to think of the named (and numbered) DAZ characters as an update to the gen4 Elite series of characters. They all require an underlying base that isn't provided in the package (since the user is expected to already have it), they come with a morph and a skin, which is usually a very good quality skin.
The bundles are just something that's been tacked on since if they were operating by the old rules, they'd only have a reason to offer a bundle when they brought out a new generation. And it would be a bit much to expect them to have to wait two years between bundles.
Actually DAZ_Steve simply mentioned there was two upcoming male figures called Ivan and Lucian. Since he also stated that no male teens were planned, I think we can be near 100% certain that these figures are adult males (they could also be some sort of creatures, like Minotaur or Lizard, but I doubt they would have those names. Lucien could be a vampire, but vampires are near human looking anyway).
I hope Lucian is a vamp! I know I would be buying if that is the case. Assuming it isn't a teen character.
The statement that no male teens were planned for generation 7 sounds pretty convincing to me. So I think we can take it as read that they are both male and both adult. Whether they are both altogether human is another issue altogether.
I feel like this has been a missed opportunity too. The YT5 bundle was great (and the MV5 bundle would have been if I hadn't gotten them from Carrara) but there's been nothing like that for forever. A few PAs did similar things (Sadie+Sam for example) but it seems as though since then all things have been female and a few token males that often don't really fit the females.
Thorne has made pretty much all the teens, ever, right? (Still actively making them I believe, as well as resource morph kits, but that's about it?)
MallenLane made Hitomi and Hiro (if they'd been sold as a pair promotion of some sort I bet that'd have gone better too.) (Doesn't seem to have released anything since Gen1 really.)
I don't know who made Keiko but I liked the style and was sad there was no male companion directly made to go with her.
Be that as it may, Stephanie appears every generation, so she clearly sells well enough to keep going. Though, I also personally think that DAZ also keeps her around because she's always been the 3rd wheel behind Vicky & Mike. It's like I keep saying, no matter what the numbers bring, Victoria, Michael, Stephanie, and Aiko always remain a strong quartette, as they have since Gen 2.
Ehh, I don't really get the feel of "Anime" at the sound of a name like "Lucian". It certainly does have more of an elegant-goth ring to it more suited to that of a vampric prince, as everyone else is suggesting.
I was really excited to get Gen X2 but I haven't been able to get the characters I want to convert over. I had a Gen4 Thorne character I wanted to move to Genesis/2 but her eyes went bizarre and when I try to move Hitomi to G2F she gets odd wrinkles on the side of her chest, etc. No idea what I'm doing wrong, so I've just been using Genesis a lot lately. I've been trying to pick up more content for it but there just isn't that much and characters weren't as nicely standardised then as they are in G2/G3 :( Would love to see more Genesis content because even though the bends aren't great the flexibility between genders is great.
Honestly the main reason I don't use G2 all that much anymore is because i despise the material settings. You have to make custom groups if you're going to do any real work on a character because the different zones are split all over the place.
You mean beside the Genesis 2 and Genesis 3 base figures?
Did MallenLane make those? I thought each Genesis figure was just based on a 'not elite' version of the previous Michael and Victoria. I'm a bit hazy when it comes to official creators for those types of official things though.
MallenLane created all DAZ base meshes since V4/M4, as well as every version of Aiko and Hiro. And probably some of the other DAZ character bases too.
That's interesting. Seems odd that the same person created Aiko5, Hiro5 and Hitomi but then stuck Aiko and Hiro5 together.
Looking in the files, Aiko 6, Keiko 6, and V7 are credited to Yannek, though maybe that's just the texture?
As Leana said, MallenLane (Michael Lane) made all the Genesis base meshes, but I am not sure if he was involved with V7 or other base morphs (other than Aiko 5 and Hiro 5). We can perhaps assume he is busy with Genesis 4 right now.
I would hope he isn't too busy with Genesis 4... character models are so far ahead of their other elements already. Unless they're going to stick with the same clothing and hair systems until Genesis 4 but I feel like they want to put a bit more into Genisis 3 than that? who knows.
That's disappointing. I thought Brodie was a really well made figure myself, so of all the male teens it should sell the best. If nothing else this goes to show that what people ask for isn't necessarily something that translates into sales. You guys must have it really hard deciding where to invest your time.
He created the character as Hitomi's counterpart, DAZ decided to rebrand him as Hiro 5.
I might be wrong for Aiko 6. I'm sure he created Aiko versions 3, 4 and 5, though.
That wouldn't surprise me. It seems like the sort of decision made by someone who doesn't actually understand the content would make, and I find it a stretch to beleive he wouldn't know very well.
Maybe Yannek made the textures and he did the mesh (no idea either way but that would explain the crediting on the texture files being different.)
How do you guys know who did the meshes? Not doubting just haven't happened to hear that sort of information bouncing around.
Sorry to hear that! I've had good results particularly with bridging the sex-tied Genesis 2 stuff. Like, Reptilian 6 is G2M only. Weeeell... I can add breasts and other feminine features from G2F. I can also send the morphs to Genesis (it's not perfect, but it's pretty good!)
Conversely, I've taken some morphs I really like from Genesis over to Genesis 2, particularly the Ethnic morphs. There's a Genesis 2 ethnic set of morphs, but... I just prefer the Genesis 1 morphs, so hey.
Mallen (I guess their real name is michael) has said so himself, and has apparently done all the meshes since victoria 3.

Well in that case I'm definitely interested to see how Aiko 7 and unnamed anime male 7 turn out compared to older generations.
I agree, it'd be horrible Ivan and Lucian weren't male teens (and even worst monters or something like that). Daz, I think you have to listen what your purchasers want and not what you want, because it's clear you prefer female figures, in short time, I'll call this site "The female Daz Studio store" because of every 5 new figures you create, 4 are female figures. Please Daz, once more time I request you: Reconsider to come back the male teens in your Gen 7 and stop creating more female figures, at least for a time, believe me, you have enough in your store now.
In my opinion, unless the DAZ Original characters are intended to be siblings, they shouldn't look too much alike beyond having a similar skin tone and such.
I agree with that, but it depends on what's meant by "alike."
When you're talking about stylised characters such as anime it really matters if the characters are two different styles (it gives the impression not of 'not being siblings' but rather 'drawn by completely different people.')
In the case of the teens, I've seen many complain that they don't like the way Thorne's characters look as being big eyed semi anime style things. Personally I like their look but you can see how people would think that wouldn't suit being in the same scene as Victoria, etc. because it's a different art style (to some at least, but mostly it only really matters for stylised characters.)
Considering what the purchasers want is exactly what Daz is doing here - though Steve has said they may look again at douing a male teen. As for the proportions, I think since the Genesis 3 Male was released it's been more like four males for every fiver females, still a bias but not as dramatic.

Males in bold. Since the release of Genesis 3 Female, there has been one female released each month, with the exception of Bethany+Karen in August 2015. Since the release of Genesis 3 Male in November, there has been a male released every month, except for March when there wasn't one.
Seriously, the ratio of male and female releases is coming along way better than last generation (you could also perhaps argue that Scott 6 was meant to pair Karen 7 as weird as that seems.)
And yet, I suspect that it's a much smaller group that wants one male figure for each female released than it is for those that simply buy characters from specific Published Artists because they like the quality of the artist's figures, no matter what the gender of the character is.
Plus the female figures have alot of overlap. Take for example Eva 7 and Karen 7, Eva 7's body shape is just a taller and thinner Karen 7, even their faces are not that different.
I hope when they do release new characters they came with a bundle equal to what Teen Jayden 6 pro bundle came with...4 characters, 3 hairs, 2 poses, 6 outfits, plus FW Ash included accessories. All that for 134.95 regular price and of course alot cheaper with PC & intro discount, plus PC coupon and any other specials included, now that was a bundle!
Really, what I would like to see make a comeback is Mintaur and Reptilian 6 :D And yes, I would take teen versions of them ^^
