When Jayden/Brodie 7?

faisanfaisan Posts: 600

Months and months pass, and we don't see Daz Studio creates Jayden and Brodie 7. There is a lot of time since they created Josie 7 (the female partner of Jayden).

Daz, when will you have Jayden and Brodie 7? It's urgent! We need them!! Please create them soon!!

I think we had like four or five Genesis 3 Female Figures before we got the first Genesis 3 Male. It may take some time before the males catch up. The standard answer for "When?" from Daz is "Soon!" cheeky

Not really relevent since G3M wasn't out then and we've had a male figure every month alongside a female since G3M has been out - except for last month when Izabella didn't have a companion male (which could easily have been the missing Jayden slot and still been appropriate.)

DAZ Soon: At some point between now and the end of the universe, if you're lucky. ;)

Neither Jayden nor Brodie sold well in the last generation, so we won't be making them in Generation 7.  There are are some new and really, really different male characters coming up this year though.  I think Ivan and Lucian will really surprise you.

I really don't care if those specific ones don't appear, but there is a very noticeable lack of male teens to pair with the multiple female teens - will there be one to cover that at any point?

There is not one currently planned.  For the last two generations male teens have sold very poorly.

Okay, thank you! (Really, knowing something isn't planned / considered / worked on is much better than just having no idea and waiting for a sudden random character release on a day.)

Obviously there are other resources to make them; mostly I just like the main characters because it means there will be appropriate clothing and hair and a few other characters appearing at the same time.

Any email, contact, etc, where can I ask Daz Team directly? Because they don't reply here and I'm very interested in knowing their reason, because we can give reasons and reasons, but the one is valid is the Daz Team´s.

You literally got a reply from a Daz employee here in the thread... Two replies actually. :)

You can just buy Guy 7 HD, morph, and use the Eddie or other less 'ruggedly' males textures in the meantime.

After hearing that, I'm picturing one of them as a Gothy/Vampy counterpart to Arabella.  :)

Actually the dearth is not teen males, it's *official* teen males. Between AliveSheCried and S-F Design there is no shortage of teen male dial-spin characters. They don't come with skins, and they don't come with bundles, but the morphs are reasonably varied.

DAZ stopped providing any kind of child figure after Genesis 1, and at that, it wasn't an official figure with a bundle. Just a morph. With Zev0's Growing up morphs very few have felt the lack -- apart from when looking for something for them to wear.

I'm a little grumphed at the lack of the kind of clothing that came in the teen male bundles. All of it was useful and most of it was casual sportswear that you could put on just about anyone.

I only picked up the female teens for the hair and clothes. Too bad we can't get a mini bundle for a male teen to fill a much needed niche. Personally, I think mini bundles like the one for Ysabeau 6 was a really good idea. Can't stomach another teen/kid female morph, though. I really liked 3DUniverse's Sylar and Raine, but without a corresponding boy, I couldn't justify buying kids just to fill a gene pool that I don't use very often.

But the boy teen clothes are so versatile (as long as they are not skinny jeans). Men still need capenter jeans, cargo pants, sweats and more baggy clothes.

This is the point I was trying to make originally. Adjusting a figure to a teen male shape is easy (mainly thanks to Zev0.) Making all the appropriate companion content that bundles bring appear is not.

I'm guessing the existence of Genesis is Daz's logic for them supplying a male+female adult, teen, and child already (though they lack a baby.) As the ones supplying the software and advertising their realistic tolerances etc. it feels as though they should have some sort of base model for these things, regardless of sales (not necessarily bundles or premier figures of course.) Maybe I'm wrong in that? But it seems right to me.

They missed the boat on this one. They ought to have considered putting together a bundle of teen male clothing and content, and offered a discount for purchasers of Zev0's GrowingUp for G3M.

I'd say they could have done the same for kid stuff and offered the discount to purchasers of either of the GrowingUp packages, but we did get a bundle's worth of at least 'Toony kid stuff with the Little Ones.

Hm, it actually would be impossible to make a male counterpart for Skylar / Rayn, wouldn't it?

    Oh, also:

I hope you're not basing whether to make a male companion for Aiko/Keiko if they ever appear on Hiro 5's sales, because you flat out marketed him wrong (he should have been paired with Hitomi who wasn't an official figure, but instead became the character name that's traditionally paired with Aiko while not even suiting her) and generation 6 didn't even get an option to make one at all.

I'm not so sure they have; all DAZ_Steve said is that Genesis 3 Male versions of Jayden and Brodie won't be produced. He also hinted at several new characters that seem to be meant to replace them.

Actually Steve said no male teens were planned. I had assumed a male tween at least would come with Tween Julie, when she appears, but that seems unlikely now. Seems odd as tween males and females would have a very similar morph and could share skins, but it seems only young females sell.

All they really need to do is produce a few texture sets without beard stubble, razor burn, and so on.

There are morphs here and at Rendo to make teens. And many of the skins for adults would work with those.

I don't blame DAZ for not committing to new DAZ Original males; I would place any blame on the folks that don't like the characters or have no interest in rendering certain ages or genders and don't buy them. After all, why should DAZ invest in something that they already have evidence that they may not make back their investment; those nice male models are buyouts from the Published Artist that actually makes them, so they have to have a reasonable chance of getting back at least what they pay the PA.

While I'm not saying they necessarily should make them, the counter argument to that is that Daz is making Studio as an overall package, and the official figures represent the content that rounds it out (and makes them their money back.) A potential new customer comes along and sees Studio and that it has 970 official females, a lesser selection of males, and a few teen females. What if the family they wanted to make had a son? No way to do mother carrying a baby around. Potential customer thinks "oh wait it's just sexy females and bikinis I'm clearly not the target audience" and never buys anything at all. Potential new customer sees big official figures as the main thing - not "oh I guess I'll buy PA products I don't know of to compensate by adjusting other figures to create a thing that..."

Sales data isn't really as simple as "product x sold badly therefore never make it again." Jayden sold badly, but how many people who bought Jayden only bought Josie because Jayden existed? We have no idea.

    - Hiro 5 has a very low opinion and probably poor sales, because people expect the official figures to go together (and they did in the past.) Hiro 4 went with Aiko 4, but Hiro 5 looks stupid with Aiko 5 (because he was designed for Hitomi) so why buy him? Why bother making a companion for Aiko 6 when her Aiko 5 companion sold badly? (they didn't - but they also hadn't made one for Aiko 5 in the first place! Lack of understanding of their own products.)

    - Another complaint I see is that a lot of male products don't sell because they are sloppy / not as much effort as the better selling female products. Not saying this is true or not simply a complaint I see, but another self-perpetuating thing.

    - Mei Lin 7 was part of March Madness, and so I was able to buy her even though I couldn't afford the Pro Bundle at the time to get the Lee discount. Lee was released this week and I would like to pick him up (mostly because I really want Jurou who looks amazing) but as he is not part of a sale his female counterpart was, I can't afford him right now so he'll have to wait. Again, skewed data.

    - In the sale on Monday, I wanted to buy Hiro 5, Freak 5, and Brodie 6. Hiro was part of the sale and I bought him. Neither Freak 5 nor Brodie 6 were offered and so I didn't (actually I think Brodie was in the smallest discount section but that was out of my price range and you'd think he'd be lower if they're that desperate for sales.)

So yeah, lots of circumstances can skew sales numbers if you only take them as "previous product x sold this."

I have to agree with Ix on this one.

The reason the teen males from generations 5 and 6 didn't sell well wasn't that there wasn't a demand for them.  It was because they weren't well planned, and in some cases, just plain poorly executed.

Also, teen models probably sell less than the typical models.  Regardless of male/female.  And Male models tend to sell less than females.  This is because of all the *ahem*pixelporn*ahem* 'art' that a many of poser/ds users create.

So, even a slightly poor execution in such a reduced market share as a male teen model can have a HUGE impact on the percieved demand.

Give us a well thought out, planned, and well-designed teen male with appropriate supporting content, and you'll see it sell.  Maybe not as much as Michael 7, and certainly not as much as Victoria 7.  Probably not even as much as Teen Josie.  But not insubstantial.
