I like it! wink Which shader did you use?

Definitely think it's time to bring back a companion for Aiko!

PWToon. I'm pretty happy with it. It's not perfect, but I have a decent grasp of it. I think I also picked up Toonycam pro, but I haven't gotten around to trying it.

Here's another attempt, trying to see how well I can do something other than 'heart-shaped boy' look. I'm not sure the vascularity on the arms 'works,' but... again, anime is a broad thing and at least I'm in the ballpark.

This is G2M, Hiro 4 + Freak 4 + ... Bruno, I think? Plus aging and vascularity and a few other tweaks. Having decent eye models and eyeliner and a few other things from anime eyes helps a bunch.

Yeah those are pretty good renders Will. Did you do any postwork?

I assume you're still using 3Delight, if so you might want to try what I did here. Using flat Ambient values can give good results if you're willing to do some postwork.

No postwork, and yeah, those are PWToon.

What I've been doing is setting decent ambient light and also for skins setting 'shadow' colors to something more than flat black (admittedly, I'm not sure I really need to be doing BOTH, but the look has been decent)

Good tutorial. I probably could make them better with some actual drawing (despite terrible drawing skill). I might experiment with that down the road.

Oh wait, for the first two I did take it into Photoshop to add a backdrop (simple gradients). Technically postwork. ;)

Ok ONE more and I'll stop clogging this thread.

    Postwork to make backdrop.

I really prefer anime-type males that don't have that pointed chin... Hiro 4 always seems to work a little better when mixed with other morphs. Dialing in any amount of his "American" morph always made him a bit more pleasing and less feminine-looking.

Yeah, personally I'm more into, say, Cowboy Bebop. Eyes not QUITE as big, irises a little smaller, etc.

Still very fond of Hiro 4. I've never seriously tried to recreate an anime style, but I have played around with the various morphs and created a few characters I liked. The last one was a mix of M4 and H4.

Holy crap! Those look nice! What hair did you use in the first pic? :)

Thanks! I uploaded the dial morphs several years back, and if you're interested you can download them here. They do require Morphs ++ and Morphus.

As for the hair, it's two pieces from the Anime Hair Set 1 for Animedoll, and it wasn't too difficult to refit them to H4. There's also a second set listed on the same page. I used just a diffuse color on them but they do take image maps.

Oh wow, thank you, mmalbert!! I needed good anime hair. ;)

Might also be useful for statues.

Honestly, the anime/manga art I've seen almost requires the females to lean chibi-ward, but males can be either spindly and sharp-chinned, or square-jawed and hard, without breaking genre.

I'm partial to the "Cowboy Bebop" jawline, myself.

Okay... After looking-up Anime Doll for G2F over at Rendo, I would now like to start a petition for DAZ to kindly commission 3doutlaw and MayaX to make Aiko & Hiro 7!

AnimeDoll predates DazStudio itself, in her original version.  This is her original head spliced to the G2F mesh.  There were a set of older freebies (circa '04/'05) that required a bit of user finagling but would allegedly, when the instructions were followed, put that same head on Mike3 or Vicki3.

Picked up Hiro 5 (and Aiko+Hiro 4 shape for Genesis) super cheap today. I like him so much better now that someone pointed out that he's meant to pair Hitomi and NOT Aiko as his name and official figure status alongside her (and Hitomi's lack thereof despite how awesome she is) might suggest.

I feel like most of my anime type things are gathering around Genesis, which also seems a great base for less realistic things since you can jump genders easily. Shame the bends suck; I'm actually starting to like Genesis more than the newer models in many cases lately.

A recent thread about fox/wolf furries got me stumbling over a load of cool furry anime style stuff from http://www.daz3d.com/willdupre

    Huh!

Furry isn't really my thing, as such, but some interesting stuff.

I've been waiting for something like that Hairdresser Modular Hair but more versatile.

One scalp, different bangs, tops, tails, etc, with corresponding morphs..

The only problem with that modular hair pack is that the package still seems to lack a lot of contents (in my humble opinion).

I mean, even MMD freebies at deviant have like more than a dozen of bangs (instead of a single one) to differentiate one another, not to mention all those sides/tops/backs/tails and other accessories.

More solid anime hair geometries (rather than the floppy flaps with transmap types all Daz hairs seem to be) would be cool but I'm going to guess the 'not going to sell' message would come out again.

That's one of the reasons  I envy those MMD and XNL users.

You could make really realistic looking digital figurines with that sort of hair (which I think is a better direction than the creepy uncanny valley if you're not using toon shaders, personally.) Plus figurines are really popular in those circles anyway (and they spend a fortune on them so you would think getting the anime market in would be a good idea this post is becoming rambling.)

On the other hand, it seems to me that most anime solid mesh hairs are waaaaay easier to design than realistic hair. I mean, heck, I'm pretty sure I could make such things. I just might attempt it... hrm.

The only problem is that because of smoothing a lot of them wind up having these gloopy tentacle-looking bits where anime models would either be sharp or stick to thicker bits.
