Hey everyone, I'm sorry for the delay on this.  I get asked questions and for tutorial material on my deviantart a lot as well, and those aren't getting answered either.  I'm going through some physical stuff right now (not cancer or anything serious as far as I know, more "something the doctor says requires more exams") and I just have no energy for anything extraneous.  I still plan to go back to the video series with Surfaces, but it may be longer than I planned.

Let's hope the doctor sets you on a good plan to minimize your needed tests in the future.

Thanks for videos ! I would love to see more on Blender for Daz myself like a few others. :)

I've done one video already, starting out with the interface and how to set it up to suit you.

I plan to continue with this series.  The aim is to help out people new to Iray, new to Daz Studio and even new to 3D.  So if you fall into that category - maybe this is your very first time on the forum! - I'm interested in what you are having the most trouble finding out.  The focus will be on rendering with existing assets.  Content creation, such as I'm able to teach it, will be a second series.

    Right now I'm thinking:

Part 01(done): Basics of the interface.

Part 02: Rendering 101 Iray (What a camera and lights are for, the environment tab, how to do a simple render with a primitive.)

Part 03: Rendering 201 Iray (How to set up and render library assets with a camera, basic lighting, render settings).

Part 03: The Surfaces Tab (where it is, what Iray channels mean, how to set up a basic retint/adapt a shader from another program).

Part 04: Advanced Lighting In Iray (mesh lights, atmospherics, bloom settings, maybe the sky setup).

I'd like some information on creating shaders for Iray.  I'm experimenting with making diaphanous fabrics like sheer nylon (think stockings) and organzas, but with little real information on the nodes, it's an exercise in frustration.

Don't despair, among the community of real, professional, money earning 3D and graphic artists, Blender is an ever growing phenomenon.  Scientists are even using it for projects like this, http://arc-team-open-research.blogspot.ca/2012/11/taung-project-3d-forensic-facial.html   ; I'm proud to be playing a small part in this project.  Blender isn't kid stuff anymore.

  • I would 2nd Kharma, morphing especially composite morphs; my Vhistoric brain showing here; but something akin to V++ or creature creater required

Oh and Armor modeling/moding so few artist bother to create a male breastplate for most of their armors it seems one pretty well must create there own.

Jaki, I'll try to explain some of those things when I stream tomorrow. Thanks for suggesting it!

    Where are yous streaming?

    here: https://www.twitch.tv/snowsultan

I'll be doing it live at noon tomorrow PST, but they're archived so you can watch them any time. Tomorrow I'm going to play around with Faveral's Alsace and the Geometry Editor tool, and I'll also write up some stuff to try and explain using HDRIs a little for Jaki and anyone else. Thanks for your interest.   :)

I didn't know about this, I am going to go and watch these asap.  Thanks for the link!

I might be able to help SickleYield out with this one, as I am getting ready to do a fairly interesting modern/sci-fi combat armor set, and many of the principles should translate to historic plate armor designs.
