Please Bring Back "HIRO"!

Please chime in if you'd like to see Hiro 7 in the future ;)  I know, I know... we've been told that Daz probably doesn't plan on bringing him back because of the tremendous flop Hiro 5 was. Well, to be very honest... at least from my POV, he was absolutely hideous.... and he looked like someone spent about a week making him. No offense to any vendors, but his clothing was also very much lacking.... and his hair was just plain rediculous. Why was he such a huge departure from Hiro 4? Aiko 5 was great.... So why was Hiro 5 so awful?

Please, Daz... take another look back at the stuff Morris and Shimuzu did for Hiro 4. Take a look at the Hiro 4 Realistic morph. Look at http://www.daz3d.com/character-expansion-for-hiro-4 . Honestly.... so, so, so many females.... and we all know Aiko 7 will be along sooner or later. Please Daz, you guys know you can pull it off wink

Everyone knows how strongly I am for this.

Though, I'm actually getting concerned for the anime genre in general, because SickleYeild has that Anime Character Builder for G3F and according to her DeviantART page, it wasn't successful and expressed discouragement from doing a G3M version...

Hmmm... Well then, I guess Hiro is dead, and that's a shame. I just don't understand why Daz makes Aiko look so good that she could blend easilly into a crowd of other Daz figures... then they turned out a Hiro that looked like some sort of space alien. Stick him in a crowd of other Daz figures and he sticks out like a sore thumb and couldn't pass for human. The good folks at Daz seem to just chalk up the failure of Hiro 5 to the fact that his sales were so poor.  Well, duh.... I would have rather bought a Daz version of Mr Potato Head.

In any case, I just wanted to ask nicely. I suppose what I should take away from this is the simple fact that Daz apparently does not understand what Hiro is supposed to be. If that's the case, then maybe they shouldn't even try.

Oh.. but I would still be interested in that Mr Potato Head! cheeky

I'd love to see a Hiro 7 too

I've stopped buying anime females because of the lack of male counterparts. Anime Character Builder for G3F was tempting but ultimately I chose not to buy it because there was no male version. Conversely, the Ball Jointed Doll set went right into my cart because of the male figure. I work exclusively with anime figures, but if Aiko 7 comes out with no Hiro or equivalent I'm going to pass on her as well.

From what I read, the character who became Hiro 5 was initially created as a male counterpart to Hitomi, which would explain why its style was so different from A5. DAZ bought him and chose to release him as H5.

Well, even if DAZ doesn't want to make a Hiro 7, it wouldn't stop a vendor fom making such an anime character.

Examples would be http://www.daz3d.com/ryder-for-genesis-2-male-s or the http://www.daz3d.com/animated-for-genesis-2-male-s-bundle

I would have accepted him as a counterpart to Hitomi. I cheerfully bought Hitomi along with almost all of the stuff that was released for her.

I'll join you in that. I love the Genesis 3 figures, but I already have enough female figures to fill the Prison Cellblock set with at least two gals to a cell. Don't really think I need any more.

He didn't sell. Neither did David 5. The closest  you'll likely see is ball joint doll.

While I'm not super into those types of characters, it seems to me such a goal would be best achieved with some morphs, maybe a skin or two. (particularly eye skins)

Hiro 5 looked like an alien. David 5 was okay, but looked like plastic and was released with some really crappy outfits. Of course they didn't sell.

Gia 6 was a disappointment for Daz as well... but they still took a chance with Gia 7... and second time around they got her right.

Guess that's enough from me. Either we'll get him or we won't. I could threaten to blow up the Earth with my EP36 Explosive Space Modulato-o-o-or, but that wouldn't accomplish anything except improving my view of the planet Venus from my own homeworld. wink

I have to wonder.. Is it the name that is important or is it that the female have a proper companion figure that is important? In other words, if his name is Kazuo (I just looked up a name I liked so don't get excited) and not Hiro but he looks perfect with Aiko would that be alright or will there still be a big who ha on the boards because he does not have the right name?

  • Serene NightSerene Night Posts: 17,704

Hiro looked too young for Aiko. In general I don't buy teen characters so that's why I didn't buy him. I like adult men. David had a weird head and was released if I remember right before or at the time of Genesis 2.

You know... I hadn't thought about that. I guess as far as I'm concerned, his name could be Mudd 7.... just don't want him to look like mud. I think all I'm really asking for is a great male figure who matches Aiko's style AND texture. The Hiro 4 base skin was kinda toonish... but also kinda realistic; it was somewhere inbetween. Wasn't it Morris who did that texture? I think one of the biggest disappointments for me with Hiro 5 was his base texture. He looked like someone spray painted him with mannequin paint. And the shape of his eyes... don't even get me started on those.

No... the name is not important to me. It's the figure and the quality of the figure that I care most about when I make a purchase.

I guess that for some, the "official base character that comes with a pro bundle and 30% off DAZ PC+ discount" would make a difference.

Personally, I could care less about the official (i.e. since most vendors thankfully use the base UV rather than the "special" UVs), though the 30% discount is a completely other issue.

Horrible mistake. This NO-Hiro replacing to Hiro was a horrible mistake. A good Hiro 5 then we had had Hiro6 and the promise of Hiro 7.

Yes, and now it seems that it's all STS....

He was indeed designed to be a counterpart to Hitomi, thus matched her style, took considerably longer than a week, and was rebranded Hiro. I also made Aiko 3,4,5 and Hiro 3,4 and Hitomi... so at least you've liked some of them, though calling him hideous seems a bit hyperbolic.

  • RAMWolffRAMWolff Posts: 10,343

If DAZ revisits the Aiko and Hiro they seriously need to consider backing up a bit and look at all the great options for the Generation 4 versions.  The head morphs were what sold those for me!  They would sell fine if they did a release similar to the one they did a little while back where the male and female versions were released about a week or so apart to keep the buyers energy up with a deep discount like "Buy Hiro 7 now and Aiko 7 will be 40% off of th sale price" or something like that.  While I'm not into Anime the mix of the Anime and Realistic morphs lends to a very youthful face which I like for hero renders.

I didn't say anything about it not being an offical base or anything like that. I just wonder what the fixation with the name is. A fixation I might add that caused a character to be renamed Hiro so that people would get what they were asking for.. A character named Hiro. I gather the real issue is wanting a male that goes with anime style X female (since there are a good half dozen or more anime styles it seems) rather than wanting to fill a slot with a guy named Hiro.

Yikes! Well, I wouldn't have called him that if I knew you were going to stop by! surprise

Well what do you know... the man himself! It is an absolute pleasure, sir, to have an opportunity to let you know personally that I truely adore your work. LOVED Aiko 3, 4, 5... LOVED Hiro 3 & 4... Loved Hitomi. I have purchased every single one of them, and for me, Aiko 3 and Hiro 3 are still very much in use. I do hope you caught the part about Hiro 5 where I said "I would have accepted him as a counterpart to Hitomi." He did match Hitomi... he did not match Aiko 5, and I realize now that you really didn't intend that for him.

All I can say is that I would love to see a new male Anime figure, Daz Original or not. We simply don't have a good one for any of the Genesis male figures.

I'm very curious... if Daz had not bought him and turned him into Hiro 5, what would his name have been as counterpart to Hitomi?

Thanks So Very Much for chiming in! It's a thrill to "meet" you, sir!

    Chuck ;)

Its funny because Hiro 5 is the best looking Hiro to me (though the anime style is not really my thing). And David 5 is literally my favourite Daz character ever. (seriously I love him. I dial him into all my characters even my women, and I've manually converted him for Gen 3 in blender)

Basially I now assume that if I like a character it wont sell as well.

Well, as I've said elsewhere, I really think what hit David 5 the hardest was that he was released, quite literally, one month before Genesis 2 was released. And, unlike the relative quietude with Genesis 3, Daz had been very public, and teasing the forthcoming Genesis 2 with Victoria 6. And getting people to invest in older tech when the next thing is coming along and we know that, and we know more or less when it's going to happen, is very nearly impossible.

Gia 6 was a disappointment for Daz as well... but they still took a chance with Gia 7... and second time around they got her right.

Well ... yes, but disappointment is relative, after all. Gia may have done well enough to reward Daz, even if she wasn't a huge seller. Given what Daz and various PAs have said publicly about the relative sales of female versus male figures and items, the margin for tolerable disappointment in male figures and items is likely much smaller.

I do wonder if certain male figures/releases/analogues might do better if they were paired figure releases, the way they did with Darius and Monique. For example, if they brought the same style of Hiro figure back again this generation, but put him on sale at the same time as Keiko 7 (assuming purely for the sake of argument that there will be a Keiko 7; I've no idea how well she did), would he do better? If they decided to do a David 7 -- yes, we've been told that's not likely to happen, but work with me, people! -- but put him on sale at the same time as Stephanie 7 (see previous assumption), would he do better? I mean, it's not likely that they would do worse, in any event.

Not all of the males would need that sort of treatment, of course. Michael, at least, does not.

Yep, all I want is for the character to work as a male anime toon counterpart to the female anime toon(s).  Call him Hiro, Kazuo, Kenji, Baka ... I don't care.  (And yes, I know what 'baka' means.)  I'm happiest when there is a suitable male companion style for the female styles, even if one male signature morph (I don't really call them figures any more) has to "pair up" with multiple female ones.

Hiro and Hitomi were difficult for me to even consider at the time, because having that super stylized anime in 3D hit the uncomfortable 'Uncanny Valley' switch hard in my book.

I would not mind seeing a Hiro or anime male that looks more like a Final Fantasy character (hey, Daz could capitalize on Final Fantasy 15, even though it's an all-male cast), because Aiko 6 was a nice approach. Less bug-eyed noodle limbed and more of a good balance between realism and stylization.

(As for David 5, I bought him a while back to have a legit male figure in my Genesis library and yeah, his head is fugly. I think they could do a David 7 justice if they'd be willing to try again)

This thread is inspiring me to try to render some anime-style scenes. Heh.

(Again, not usually my thing, but it's fun to try)

  • Somehow I completely missed the Anme character builder. Not sure how but is on my wishlist now. Looks awesome.
