Okay, so I was right. You can't render LAMH in Iray. You can only render LAMH in Iray if it has been converted to FiberMesh first. Not quite the same thing.
I believe this is only by converting to FibreHair - and you need the full LAMH Plug-in to do that, the free player only does the obj export method.
Have you looked at this? http://www.daz3d.com/sy-ultra-templates-for-genesis-3-male-s
Yikes! From the horse's mouth: In the 1.x versions of LAMH you will need to use either FiberHair (for the full plugin users) or export an OBJ and import that (for the free plugin users) if you wish to render in Iray.
This is a gorgeous product, whether in Iray or 3DL.
Kendall
It isn't a conversion. LAMH exports to Renderman, OBJ, Instances, or FiberHair. They are ALL exports. FiberHair is just one of the formats. It just so happens that when we coded LAMH 3DL was the default rendering engine (and we had NO CLUE that Iray was coming), so out of convenience for our users we made that the default when loading from a .duf or importing from the player. To give an idea about the importance of the LAMH FIberHair, we gave it a shortcut button in the UI to go around the normal export dialog.
So one could say that FiberHair is the Preferred output format for LAMH.

Sorel asked if anyone had tried this on G3M, so I did a quick trial. I add G3M to my scene and then added the Lord of the Snow product. It didn't ask me if I wanted to conform it. After it loaded, there were three clothing items, I think. I selected the first. Had to hide it to see what it was. Then I went to the parameters and said to fit to G3M. It asked me who it was for and what it was. I selected the shirt for the upper part and the pants for the pant. Wasn't sure what to pick for those shoulder pad things, but I selected the shirt. And as you can see, it all fit pretty well. It was interesting watching the fit process. At first the clothing being fit turned into a cube like figure and then after all these process bars completed, the clothing snapped into place.
You'll notice that the clothing isn't fully textured. When I applied the material set, I got errors saying that some of the textures couldn't be found. Maybe that's because I installed it through Daz Connect. Maybe it's looking in the content library. But then again, it did find some of the textures.
Maybe someone of the forum knows what the problem is. Or perhaps I should just submit a support ticket.
Thank you for this. Looks pretty good for the most part. I might have to pick up sickle's ultra templates for the cape and stuff.
There went that darn foot in my mouth again! And us Martians have very big, wide, clown feet! Thanks Kendall! Now... back to that dynamic clothing thingie you're doin' ..... can't wait!
Chuck ;)
Your foot is fine. The reason I responded is that it is a common misconception. LAMH was designed for multiple formats early on, and we never intended to have it Renderman only. We released the very first 1.0 with 3 export formats, and 2 more on the way. We were never able to work it out with Paolo to get LAMH and Reality working together (Paolo and DAZ were not on good terms at the time) so we ended up delaying the extra formats for a couple of months. When our FiberHair was released it was largely ignored due to the bad experiences that people were having with zBrush exported fibermesh (and they assumed that FiberHair had the same issues) and because only 3DL and Lux (via Reality) were commonly available (Octane was also available but there was a conflict between OcDS and LAMH using DS resources that were never resolved before the original OcDS developer dropped the project). The Renderman export is significantly more efficient for 3DL than any strand hair in any form, so there was no impetus to use FiberHair.
It wasn't until Iray that the LAMH FiberHair showed its superiority over other formats. But it is Excellent Products like this one that really showcase LAMH, and I'm glad that the PAs felt that LAMH was right for them.

This is the second such outfit that I'd seen using LAMH for fur. The other was from the same artists at RDNA, but I think it was either for G2F or G3F.
Makes a lot of sense to use it if the free player is all that's really needed.
There are other clothing items with LAMH presets, but that belongs in a different thread.
Kendall
This reminds me... now that I'm playing with 3DL some more, I should totally add LAMH fur for cool clothing. Hrm.
Slightly OT: What character was used in the promo art? Obviously an M4, but is that a custom character or one available? Looks familiar, but I can't place him at the moment. Love his look!
Answering my own question: might be Libra from the joelegecko's Heavenly Bodies pack: http://www.daz3d.com/heavenly-bodies
He's pretty close.
It might work better if you fit the whole thing to Genesis first and then in the same scene, move those newly fitted items to G3M
On closer inspection, looks like he might be a combo of this skin: http://www.daz3d.com/spencer-for-m4 and this morph: http://www.daz3d.com/lr-jayden-for-m4
So, no body else has trouble loading the textures for this product? I get errors telling me to locate the missing textures. I used Daz Connect to install the product. When I browse to the file location, I found that some of the textures are under people. In addition to the textures. There are two folders that contain textures too. There are also some textures under runtime.
At least one icon will load part of the textures and then ask for the missing ones. Some of the others just generate errors asking me to find the missing textures.
Actually I have that and to some extent it helps. But generally speaking I avoid autofitting/converting to save time and hassle and headaches unless necessary.
The one I'm having trouble with is the fur in Iray. Everything else loads and renders perfectly. I was shocked to accidentally discover that I could render in Iray (I was just messing around) on my "little computer that could". I have LAMH player and the full blown version installed. I've selected the fur base as well as the fur and tried texturing it with the materials provided. Only the white part renders, as if it was never shaded at all. I' attached a pic of it rendering in a small area of the shoulder with a contrast of the preview. I didn't see a readme file with this set, so I am not sure if I'm doing something wrong.
PS. I was right about the models used for the promo guy! And he DOES remind me of an actor, finally figured out who...a young Pierce Brosnan! He can be my Lord of the Snow any day!
I'm not sure if the update to LAMH that came out a few days ago will automatically convert to fibermesh for Iray, but if you didn't just update it then it won't work in Iray directly.
I does not automatically convert, that is a v2 feature. In the case of this, turn the MAPPING button to "on" and set the root color to 255,255,255 to get the underlying textures.
Kendall
Turn the MAPPING button to "on" and set the root color to 255,255,255 to get the underlying textures. Also, if you own the full version, uninstall the player. It will only conflict with the full version and cause problems. To get Iray fur, go into the LAMH UI and click on the "FiberHair" button.
Kendall
Thanks, Kendall! I'll try that tonight!
I think some of my textures are actually missing. They are not in the folder where they are suppose to be...at least. I have a support ticket open. The Fire one works for the most part. It does complain about one texture file being missing. But the ICE one complains about a lot of files and nothing gets applied to the model. I browsed to the file location and followed some of the paths to the missing files and none of them with white in the name were there.
I used Connect to install. Tech Support did say that Connect should have worked. They are looking in to it.
where do you get the update? Is that for the free player or the full plugin?
The update is for both the player and full versions. Use the DIM to update. It DOES NOT provide auto fiberhair for Iray. That is a v2 feature. The update contains bug fixes and stability enhancements.
Kendall
After several crashes and some failed activation issues (which I emailed Alessandro about), I managed to get fur to appear at least on part of it. The underneath is still showing up as white. I don't see an option for fiber hair. Getting closer, though!
Try this: create your crash as you describe, then send me the logFile.txt that is in your lookatmyhairAM folder in the Documents folder hierarchy. Do this BEFORE you run DS again since the file is overwritten on each run. This will give me an idea of why you are crashing.
EDIT: When you say "load the scene" does this mean that you've successfully applied the LAMH preset and saved. Then you're trying to reload a saved scene?
