Pose by the Numbers?!

I rely heavily on "pre-made" pose and expression sets. But I just hate the sets that label each item with a number, rather than a description of the pose or expression!

I'm sort of the other way around. I don't really like them to be named because I go into it without any preconceived notions about what it is/does/looks like. Once someone tells me it is "sexy time smile 03" I won't be able to see it as "RBF smirk" in my head nearly as easily.

    Greetings,

    LOL @ RBF Smirk...

I hate to admit it, but the numbers bother me also.  Not so much because I have preconcieved ideas of what they are, but more because I *don't*.  I...can't always tell what a lot of the expressions are...expressing.

It's always worried me, to be frank.  It's why I rely on named expression dials under the Parameters tab almost exclusively, and adjust them until they look 'like something I've seen on people's faces', instead of being extreme versions.  If expression sets had some indication of what was being conveyed, it'd help a bit.

Don't get me wrong, I can tell 'happy' from 'sad', generally (although at the resolution of the thumbnails, sometimes I'm wrong), and I've done semi-okay on a few online tests that ask 'what is this person feeling', but it'd still help a little bit to have an idea what the creator was thinking.  Sometimes I'll actually try to screw my face up into the looks, to try and understand what would make someone have that expression.

For example the one above 'Number Two!' (actually 22) is probably...excited, maybe a happy-to-see-you thing?

I'm with you Ron. I wouldn't want them by numbers either.

I got a few expression pose sets recently and I have to say, all in all, I'm... not thrilled. I often end up needing to do a bunch of tweaks anyway.

It HAS suggested a few approaches to expressions that have improved what I'm doing and it helps break me out of a rut, so it's not a total loss.

I prefer them to be labeled with an adjective rather than a number, sometimes it's hard to tell from the thumbnail, and even if the thumbnails are very clear it's faster for me to look for an appropriate word than to look through all the thumbnails.  When I categorize expressions I have separate categories for ones that have descriptive labels and ones that just have numbers, and I always go to the descriptive labels category first.  When I'm considering whether to buy an expression pack, seeing that they're labeled is a definite plus.

Yeah, if nothing else, the ability to search for an expression across multiple pose sets is a huge plus.

Uh-oh I notice my image was deleted. I apologize if I violated some sort of rule. I try to behave, but sometimes my memory is lacking.

I absolutley love all the wonderful content. I'm incredibly satisfied by the increased quality when DAZ moved into the Genesis generations. Obviously, not every content provider uses numbers rather than words. Another similar gripe though is the descriptions that include the name of the content creator. We are restricted by the size of the thumbnails, and how many letters can fit under them. I'm 66 years old & have "vision challenges." Sometimes it's almost impossible to know what I'm seeing!

Thanks for taking the time to participate in this thread. I'm glad you see the humor in the caption for MeiLin 7!

Hah, and my wife said I was nuts because I categorize mine the same way. Glad I'm not the only one. :)

I'm definitely in the "prefer descriptions/adjectives instead of numbers" group. I think about 80% of my custom categories and tags are just in the expressions poses where I attempted to give them some sempblence of being useful for me.

Which image,  I see one post with an attachment, the OP,  and no sign of any that have been removed.

I'm not a big fan of them either, manly because while they may look good on the base figure that they were designed for, they're usually either too extreme or not extreme enough for the character morph I actually use.  Parameter dials make so much more sense, but when I do end up with a pose set I'll usually modify it using puppeteer, mixing it with another expresion, a zeroed face or several other expressions at once.

It's a forum bug or something...I've seen it happen as well.

I also prefer names to numbers.  esp. for ease of searching... and because the thumbnails are so small often..

(I'd also love concisirencey or something in the ones that do "face pose/eyes pose/mouth pose" splits.)

Ron, you can use the image tool from up there ^ and also add a copy of the image in line. Clcik on the attachment to bring it up to full size, Right click on that and select Copy image Location, than put that in the URL bar of the Image tool. I have done that for you in your first post to demonstrate. Can you see it Now?
