    Thank you for posting.

When I first read that the "official" story will only be continued every two years with one "filler" side story in between I was not sure what to expect.

But this tailer was a positive surprise. It seems interesting to follow the story of some oridinary rebels without some jedi super powers.

That alarm sound is horrible....sounds like Jar Jar Binks being interrogated by the inquisitors *cringe*

But the trailer itself looks cool...cant wait for the movie

    LMAO! Thought the same thing.

I love the trailer, especially after having just bought and watched for the 5th time (4 times at theatre) the Force Awakens. Can't wait for December!

I could swear the alarm sound is from the original trilogy, but I don't know for sure.

I have to admire the chops of someone willing to go off-formula for the franchise like this, and to recognize the enormous wealth of options to tell stories within Star Wars universe.

This is something that frustrates me about DC and Marvel, that sometimes they feel so compelled to do the big world-shaking drama that they leave untouched all the smaller stories that would be interesting to see.

(I'd donate a vital organ to see The Jumper and similar Superman stories appear in film)

again, this is a copy/paste of episode 4. nothing new, unfortunately. quads, troopers, rebels in bad wearings, phhhh

I want epic, I want creativity, I want to be surprised! the lucas way. with artistic risk and so many new things to make my eyes pop like the kid I was once...

Lofty goals considering it's all been done before. Don't get me wrong, I want the same things, but it gets harder and harder for me to feel that way these days with all I have seen and experienced cinematically  up to now.

Heathen! That's the classic Death Star siren from the 1977 film.

Great trailer. I wish Disney had made the prequels instead of Lucas.

I like the look of this. It feels like classic "Star Wars", but with a grittier edge. And the protagonist won me over instantly. Apparently certain sectors of the Internet are already rioting because "Ohmigod another female protagonist ... it's the end of everything ... the progressives are destroying all that we love". Which only makes me like the idea more.

Looking forward to it. When does it come out?

The alarm is the same one they have used throughout the whole series of movies. You hear it as the falcon dodges between the Star Destroyers in The Empire Strikes Back and then in the Death Star when Luke was dragging Vader to the shuttle. Its also my email notification for outlook.

I didn't know they bought the collector dish on the Death Star from somewhere else and had it installed... Now I definitely want to see this movie.

Now that they are doing stories within the greater Star Wars universe, I really hope Disney does at least one movie about the the IT guys who were responsible for getting the Death Star up and running... "Bothans..? They maybe great at running Cat 6 cable in tight conduits, but they always stink up the break room with their weird lunches... And what's with them constantly taking holo-selfies all the time..."  -Bob Codewalker.

Sorry... But yeah, it looks like a fun movie and no, I hadn't seen the trailer yet.

Excellent points here, Will. The mood of the trailer reminds me a lot of some of my favorite Star Wars novels that took place between movies. And between the cast and the visuals, this might be a more entertaining movie than The Force Awakens.

    Regarding Marvel/DC - spot on!

The disk was sub-contracted out to COBY electronics in Lake Success. It's Sony guts, really.

I like the IT idea aspect. Disney would only need to give me 5 seconds of Roy and Moss on the other end of a com link and this would be the greatest motion picture ever.

Well they do go small on TV. Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. and Agent Carter don't usually deal with the world-shaking events. Ant-Man also went a lot smaller, it was basically about preventing an arms deal.

The same goes sort of for DC, although I already dislike or am starting to dislike everything they do.

Regarding the new Star Wars movie, I am on board. Loved to se the AT-AT's again. And damn was I excited when I thought that they adressed the main character as Jan Ors (and disappointed when it turned out I had misheard...). Still, looks pretty good.

2nd trailer is out Friday July 15th

in the mean time James Earl Jones, not Gilbert Godfrey, has been confirmed as voice of Darth Vader.

and I just came across the greatest Gilbert Godfrey quote of all time

"More than a national treasure, he's a secret weapon. If we had had Gilbert Gottfried in World War II, Hitler would have given up in 1942."

    And really quite annoying.

Exposure to an indulgent how-we-were-awesome / behind-the-scenes thing six months before I can see the actual frelling movie is a quick way to ruin the suspension of disbelief.

It may be tough to resist, but I recommend not watching this "trailer". This is the kind of thing that should be on the "DVD" six months after the movie.

    This, This, This!

I feel this way about the Star Trek Movies, and Transformers to some extent too.  They don't give the thinking viewer a chance to breathe.

I know, I know.  They're not after the thinking viewer because it's the paying viewer that they want.  I get that, but seriously...how many more times do we have to see the Enterprise completely destroyed?  Or 23rd century London, downtown Chicago, or NYC?  I'm getting weary of the destruction.

Does anybody remember some of the superb character development Star Trek television shows?  Each franchise had one or two phenomenal stories each season.  We never get those great stories in the theatre.

And Star Trek is just the beginning.  Look at the Stargate series', the Battlestar Galactica series, Dallas, Falcon's Crest, and all those vampire TV shows, up to some of today's character driven dramas.  The TV series always paves the way for the movies, but if the movie had come out first, it would just be "ho-hum" because we only get to know these characters when the stories can be 22 to 47 minutes long and we get a LOT of them.  The old saying is true, "quality time only comes from quantity time."

A 90-120 minute movie has only the length of 2 to 2.5 TV episodes of the same characters, and most of that time is spent setting up the grand finale battle.  Not nearly enough time for the THINKING viewer to identify with the characters.

We'll never see a cinematic treatment of Data's dreams, Troi's child, or Kirk's good and bad halves.  And if we do, it always ends up making the characters look like cardboard cutouts.

It took three Iron Man, two Avengers, and three Captain America movies for me just to start to like Tony Stark; to idenitify with the character.  Similar with Wolverine, from the X-Men.  Television is better for character development.  Even the comics are better for character development!  Movies, not so much.

Reshoots and tinkering as the original came out too much like a war movie. A proper war movie in the Star Wars universe, now that's something I would definitely go to see. Wonder if we'll get a directors cut?

I agree. Its a little more shrill than the original. Could be a playback issue, or hopefully it IS Jar-Jar.

    I actually liked Jar Jar.

Country bumpkin makes good.  He was much more than the "Scrappy Doo Character", which is my term for any crazymaker, goofball, or just plain stupid 2 dimensional comic foil inserted "for the kids".  Another example is "Batmite".  Horrible.  It's a version of jumping the shark.  Anyway, pandering to young kids isn't necessary because kids are more sophisticated than we give them credit for and pandering usually insults EVERYBODY's intelligence.  To some extent, Jar Jar was like that but in his case, I saw much more potential in the character.  He just suffered from the very same thing I mentioned in my post above; lack of quantity time over multiple releases.  In character development, we need to spend time with them in order to get to know them.  Sort of like we do with people.  Quality time comes only when you spend quantity time.

Jar Jar's character development did happen, it just took more than one movie for development, and I especially liked him in one of the later episodes when he was a politician with serious responsibilities, which he did take seriously (mistakes notwithstanding).  Fleeting scenes only, with just a couple of spoken lines, but still he managed to mature and grow up, which is more than a lot of humans can claim.  smiley

But for the most part, yeah; I'm not a fan of the Scrappy Doo Character.

I kinda agree about the world shattering, the whole damn city or planet is being ripped apart thing... Granted, Star Wars started that with Alderan blowing up, but it was like two seconds and poof... I get that comic book super hero movies are going to involve a lot of people throwing cars at each other and and individuals getting thrown through walls and office buildings, so in a way that's expected... But sometimes it gets a little boring or predictable.

Its almost like the moment they cut scene to London, Tokyo or Cleveland, you know someone or something is going to destroy it... Most of the movie is taking place in NYC or London and sudden the character is visiting Copenhagen, you know a giant space parrot is gonna tear it up.

Epic scale destruction is getting a little overused.

I just saw the new trailer for Star Trek Beyond the other day, and in it you see the Enterprise getting destroyed... Really? They probably haven't even taken most of the protective shipping plastic off of the console screens and buttons yet and its already destroyed? What was that, like six months? The warranty card probably hasn't even reached the builder yet.

Still no #2 Rogue One trailer for us scruffy nerf herders who weren't invited to the private premiere, but Jar-Jar fans, Snoke conspiracy theorists take heart. YouTube is abuzz with rumors about what we might have seen had we been there, and there is nothing more enticing than grown up nerds making speculations and hostilely arguing with one another in the comments section.

In the mean time with the spirit of gratuitous 'splodin' here's Exploding Eddie from Futurama.
