JJ doesn't do sequels, he does reboots, either hard or soft.

He doesn't reall do good storytelling, either.

I thought this was a good article:

    No.

The real spoiler is that Luke wants to be known from now on as Caitlyn. ;-P

  • Finally got to see the new Star Wars movie.  I thought it was great.  My husband wasn't quite as thrilled with the new movie, but he is a old school die hard fan of the original movies.  He did manage to say it was okay which is high praise from him.  We didn't see the 3D version.  I might have to go back and see it again in 3D.

OK, just saw the Force Awakens (yeah, yeah, late to the party, whatever), and I'm excited!!  I CANNOT wait for Episode 8!   I don't see why anyone would have an issue of any kind with this film, I think it did an awesome job of capturing the essence of the originals, while still giving us a new story.  And I firmly believe that Rey (Daisy Ridley) has claimed the Skywalker legacy.  I wouldn't be surprised to learn she's actually Luke's daughter!

  • I just saw it for the second time tonight.

Its good to know that Hollywood has a firm commitment towards recycling.

Its entertaining enough, but it wont be something that ill be able to watch over and over through the years.

Saw it yesterday on itunes. Maybe my voice will be too far out of the crowd but I think that Rey (especially) and BB8 are the only excuses of this movie. Pretty much everything else is fail.

Plot is illogical and filled with cliches and strained interpretations. The worst thing is that they broke the tradition from old movies (and even prequels) of detailed worlds. Tatooine, Hoth, Naboo - when you hear the name you immediately have a picture of the planet in your mind, each world has unique society and 'character'. Not the case anymore - all places in Ep.7 may as well belong to Earth (after alien invasion :) ). CG is well done but it's not enough nowadays and as I said only Daisy and BB8 animators saved it from being the total fail.

So typical JJ movie with bangs and chases :)

Hope I didn't spoil too much (if it still matters :) )

I thought he was married to US Supreme Court associate justice Ruth Vader Ginsburg?... Maybe Ella was his second wife after Padmé...

I would have infinite respect for her if she showed up at a hearing with the gloves, lightsaber and helmet and demanded everyone join the dark side or if I found out she went to a Halloween party dressed as Darth Vader...

Apparently there are no Ruth Vader memes, so I had to make one... And yes, those are Yoda earrings she has on.

Started to watch episode seven but have not finished it.  Maybe tonight I will finish it.

I have not seen Harrison Ford yet in it.  I bet he does not play a youngster.  Harrison Ford no longer looks like a youngster anyway.

Spoiler alert:  the droid looks like a beachball with a head.

I generally liked episode 7... But... (Since the little droid was just mentioned)

One of the things that I did not get was the need for a second cute droid... I get BB8, and I'm aware that in the Star Wars universe some droids are special enough to be granted the same rights as life forms, so in effect he is just another character... But he is basically a second R2-D2... He makes the original R2 seem redundant.  Besides that, back ages ago I read an interview with Lucas where he mentioned that one of his intentions was to use R2-D2 and C3-PO as a binder for the story arc... They are not the focus, but they were to be there all throughout, almost as if the story is a backdrop to their travels... Who knows if he kept that intention and that all goes out the window once Abrams got a hold of it... I'm surprised he (Abrams) didn't have the Millennium Falcon turn up in a body shop totally reworked into something more his style.  The second astromech droid thing really bothered me... Probably BB8 was created to sell more toys, but I hope it's not at the expense of the storyline. Even though I found the new Star Trek movies entertaining and most of the actors did a good job of trying to capture the essence of the original characters... I wasn't fond of what Abrams did to the ST universe... He kinda flipped the bird to most TOS fans in his attempt to Abramify it... I really hope that the little things in The Force Awakens that bug me don't spiral into a total rebootfest in the next installment.

    ok, my turn, my 2c.

    2 things:

    - this is starwars

    - the lucas touch has been (long) lost.

this is star wars. In a bad way. Kinda. And I LOVE SW. But is is only what? a copy/paste of the ep IV. almost scene by scene. hero prisoneer, the café of aliens, the dark star attack, the tunnels  attacks by xwings, the...etc. And with evey ingredient of previous episode: xwings, falcon millenium, cast, bad guy in (dark) armor, dark star, force, ligh saber,... This is so much star wars, that I though: what new? 20 after, the very worl of SW with multi galaxies has only this? Even the second trilogy (ep 1-3) has some many new things!

Lucas is way too far, and he didn't like this movie for those reasons. Nothing has been invented, nothing new, story line is the very same of ep4, the look and feel is exactly the same, etc... even the ep1-3 have many new things: new very detailled worlds, new bad guys, new epic scenes (the race in ep1, the space battle in ep3, the droid battle, the under the lake worl/journey ep1, the lava world in ep3, darth maul etc...). The inventivity, the artistik risk are absolutely missing. I was not surprised. I had the bad impression to see again ep4.

it is not a bad movie. but is is only a commercial one. It won't be a 7th art monument like the ep4 and 5, it won't be a chef d'oeuvre like my favourite movie of all time the ep 5 Empire strike back..

I loved the movie but now I'm wondering if BB8 is the franchises Scrappy Doo.
