Older Scene incompatibility with Gen 3 Figures?
in The Commons
Hello,
Wondering what the issue might be with some recent render issues. I am trying to use i13 Private Party with 9 Genesis 3 figures. It always locks in the rendering ay around 15% and does not proceed beyond that. All these characters can be rendered easily in empty space, but once the scene is loaded the render locks up. There are no error messages - the render just stops at 15% and the elapsed time keeps running.
Are there compatibility issues with this scene (or older scenes generally) and Genesis 3 figures, or is it perhaps some other issue preventing the render?
Thanks.

If its an iray render, Perhaps your video card had most it memory taken with the 9 Genesis3 figures. and adding the additional scene files with textures pushed it to max. You might try a test. Load the scene, and then add a couple genesis figures, and see if it renders. Keep adding til you hit the limit.
It is 3Delight, but perhaps that Video Card issue is still the problem?
Does the scene alone, without the figures, hit a wall also?
No, the scene without the figures is fine.
...3DL is CPU mode only.
Next question, are you using UE with 3DL?
I see on the documentation page that there was an issue with some of the textures not loading that has since been fixed. You might want to try de and reinstalling the set to see if that solves it.
Good idea. I'll give that a shot. Thanks.
*sigh* Makes me think of the bad old days of DS3 and running in 32-bit. Only there, instead of the render locking up, I'd usually get a program quit.
I haven't touched Iray yet, but in 3DL there are still times when a render will appear to stall while the timer keeps counting and nothing appears to be happening. Sometimes it makes no sense at all, but usually it's chewing on a wig. So far, after several minutes of nothing happening though, it's usually started making progress again and continues without issue. Although it may stall again if it hits another old wig, or a lot of plants with transmaps.
If you are using UE2 lights (and I am guessing you are if the render is slow), you could consider swapping the UE2 lights for AoA Advanced Ambient lights, and then you can flag any hair to behave differently to the lights in a way that should significantly speed up the render.
I did a couple renders a while ago using private party and mixture of g2 and g3 characters my problem was getting the lighting right and changed the scene several times too
