Vacationing in Hawaii for a week (Waikiki in Oahu). Seeing lots of inspirations for renders, and trying not to get too much cgi withdrawal. :)

A friend of mine died of CGI withdrawal... He was mauled by a bear, a tiger and two circus clowns moments before, but the coroner ruled it was CGI withdrawal that actually killed him.  Which was odd because he never even dabbled with CGI... I think he was a professional tiger taunter for a traveling circus or something like that... Actual I think the coroner may have been the popcorn guy.

Well, despite that, CGI withdrawal is a very real condition and you should take lots of vitamin J or something to prevent it. I've been told that if you get hives from the withdrawal, you should put several ripe pineapples in you pants and dance the Macarena... Although I may have just told myself that... It's hard to keep track of sometimes...

Well, whatever... Have a good time and try not to contract any tropical illnesses or fall into a volcano or anything.... Seriously, they randomly erupt everywhere in Hawaii... They can even pop up in your hotel room, without warning.

    Have fun.

Now that I've learned so much about HDR and dynamic range, I find myself wishing I had a better device to take pictures, because I now understand why, for example, a sunset pic isn't turning out well.

My suggestion is to pick up an a6000 with the kit lens. It's an impressive camera at an affordable price, and trades blows with other APS-C DSLRs.

Now that I think about it, I think it's actually *better* than most other DSLRs, photography-wise. Video is another kettle of fish though.

Enjoy yourself. The scenery there is goreous. I wouldn't worry about the withdrawel too much unless you catch yourself thinking "hmm...is this real or iray?"

If you can do so easily try taking multiple shots with diffrent exposure adjustments, then combine them. If you are lucky your camera may have an auto-bracketing feature.

I'm using my Galaxy S6 as a camera. :) I haven't had a dedicated camera in many years, though this trip got me thinking.

Aaand I just noticed the phone camera has an HDR option I've had off. Doh! Sunset at Waikiki.

I've a Sony a6300 I'd like but I'm not buying til I finish house & yard remodel about the end of 2017 so I can actually go on vacation somewhere. They will probably have a Sony a6600 out but then.

It's smaller sized than the DLSR and with the 16-55mm lens is point & shoot sized. Of course once you buy the 55-210mm lens or similar then you have a lens bigger and heavier than the camera with some lens exceeding the cost of the camera.

Your hotel fell over... Or you did... Or the picture is sideways... One of those.

Moana is my youngest daughters name. That's Māori for the sea, if I remember right Hawaiian is the same?

From Google : Given Name MOANA. GENDER: Feminine & Masculine. USAGE: Maori, Hawaiian. Means "ocean, wide expanse of water, deep sea" in Maori and Hawaiian. Interesring. There's a Ala Moana shopping center we went to yesterday. :)

"Kai is an English and Hawaiian name of Hawaiian origin. Meaning: sea." I guess meaning isn't the same as word for oops as you were everyone ;)

I used to talk to a dude name Kai Krause back in the days of AOL, he created Bryce and KAI's Power Tools and other "trippy" applications that defined my love of computers and rock bands from Seattle,  but I think he said his name was Hawaiian for "mauled by circus bear at a sideways hotel." - I could be wrong I 4:20'ed a lot of Maui back then.
