Facial A-Hairness incorrectly states Daz Studio support?

HavosHavos Posts: 5,581

I bought this beard yesterday under the impression that it would work in DAZ Studio (it states so on the product page) but I am now suspecting this is an error. When loaded into DS it is just loads as an invisible item. It loads and renders in Poser, and I am now pretty sure it is Poser dynamic hair, and so will not work in DS. Which is a shame, as it does look good. I do have Poser, but rarely use it, so I am wondering if it is worth keeping just for Poser. If I could at least export the hair as an obj, them it would have some value, but I am pretty sure you can not do that with Poser dynamic hair.

I assume DAZ needs to update the page for this item, to state that it is Poser only.

Under surfaces make sure opacity is set to 100% - it may be loaded as 0%. Worth a try...

Thanks for the suggestion, and you were partially correct, as the only thing that loads is loaded as 0% opacity, but this is the skull cap (or beard cap) needed for the dynamic hair to grow on, and thus needs to be invisible. Setting this to 100% I can see the object, but still no hair :-(

It has been confirmed that this is indeed Poser only, as it uses Poser Dynamic hair.  Please file a ticket for a refund, giving the reason for returning it.

    It has been reported.

I did managed to export this into DS using the tool Wendy mentioned (thanks for this) but as she warned, it does not look very good. Big shame really, as I liked the way this mesh beard had a mixture of colors for the hairs. Most of the wire mesh beards I have, each strand has the same color, which makes a grey beard in particular look odd (as most grey beards are a mixture of black and white hair, not a single monotone of grey).

I will have to decide whether to return it, or keep as Poser only. Thanks for the help.

Yes I have kept it as well,  will experiment to see if I can do anything to export it into my preferred program.

I had a dream about this product for some bizzare reason

I was also curious how well it renders in Poser's sketch render which I frequently use and if it animates, my Poser hair sims while not as jittery as Carrara hair, tend to go through mesh too much to be useful.

and so bugger it I bought it, we shall see ......

    and yes to first question

for those curious, you still need Poser too

this is what the created hair looks like in DS using iray and a texture I stuck on it

I uused the transfer utility to fit it to G2M but yeah is  a raggety thing

I got it into 4.6 though it's a bit of work, and there is limited functionality.  Discussed it here halfway down the page.

I'm so disappointed about this too. I'd spotted it at RDNA and was frustrated it was Poser only. When it showed up here, stating DS support, I bought it like a shot. And I've had exactly the same issues as everyone else reports. Gutted, as I really wanted these beards :-(  I'd opened a ticket with DAZ and until I found this thread was beginning to hope that maybe I was just missing some files... Oh well. Refund it is.

There's a product over at rendo that turns regular clothes into dynamic clothes. Will tried it on hair before and said it worked, but made the hair fall flat against the head like it was wet or something. Perhaps using that tool on the beard will help it not look so ragetty?

I couldn't say though as I don't own either product.

  • I tried to send a ticket yesterday evening asking for a refund. It seems that it never went through because I didn't get any automatic reply nor did it shows with tickets. I will try again after they open in UT today.

  • This time the ticket shows it was submitted. So  I know that is working.

There are some nice DAZ fibermesh beards already so no need

just posted to show what it looks like

I mainly grabbed it as had no Poser dynamic beards and do use Poser sometimes.

actually a lot just not often for rendering.

  • Daz reimbursed me very quickly. Thank you Daz staff. I appreciate it .
