Door Prop?

Does anyone know of somewhere I can get a door prop for Daz, or any scenes that have doors as part of them, but can be removed and used in other scenes?

I created a quick door jamb and door in blender; nothing fancy.  I exported each as its own prop as they need to be separate.  From a set you may have, you can select a door jamb and door and export from Studio as OBJs, separately, as well.

I then created a null.  This is also referred to as an empty as you normally fill it with something.  This will be used as our hinge on the door to rotate it.  You will be parenting (filling the empty) with the door so it's rotation is controlled by the null.  I named the null "Door_rotate".

You move the null so that it's center is at the right side edge of the door (as you look at the door) and to the back.  For a model, this is the hinge end of the door.

You parent the door to the null (Door_rotate) by right clicking on the door in the scene tab and selecting "Change Parent".  In the pop-up menu that follows, you will choose the null (Door_rotate) as the parent and accept.

Make sure the null is selected.  You can rotate on the Y axis with the 3D Manipulator or through the Y rotation in the parameters.  Now you have a usable door.

If you use the search words "Door" "Opens"  there are some choice available.

  • Thanks everyone, got one!

  • Very helpful. Now for newb question of my own. How do i save it so i keep all the hierarchy? for instance, if the door is parented to the null and the null is parented to the door frame and i want to save everything as a single unit.

I would save it as a Scene Subset (under File/Save As...). A dialogue pops up so that you can check just the elements in the scene that you want to save. Your hierarchy, poses and all parameters of the objects selected will be preserved as they would be if you saved the entire scene. When you load a scene subset it is merged into your current scene and does not attempt to replace it.
