This is a great new item.

Wondering if it can be used without the sand?

I can imagine many uses for it.

A newer texture would also be fantastic so it could be used as an up-and-running facility.

    Terrain is listed as a separate element.  If it has well thought out material zones shiny new shaders could give it a new look.
