I think so. Just put one in my cart to do a price check and it dropped to 50%. That must be the way of it, though the newsletter ad was a bit obscure as to details in that particular section.
Now to decide just how many I can afford. I don't really need groceries, do I?
Yeah, I second Unshaven 2.
Not only are the beards excellent, but the iray hair shaders are vital for maybe 1/3 of all the hair I use (and it's a great base for LAMH conversions to iray)
Oh, that's a good point. I already have another iray product for hair, but having this could be interesting -- especially if it's from Mec4D.
The hair shaders can also be used on just parts of the hair. For Example, the body of Char Hair doesn't work well, but applying the hair shaders to just the whispy strands looks really good. And I've used the hair shaders without replacing the images and gotten really good results, too.
I've also applied the hair shaders to the body hair from REAL Hairy with realistic results.
I was really tempted, but I think I'm going to eventually get Laticis' beard set. It has a few more styles that I would find handy for fantasy men, while Mec's has a lot of cowboy-ish morphs (plus I followed it's creation on dA and I want to give him a little support). Mec will get a sale from me when her second PBR shader set comes out though. :)
Unshaven 2's Iray hair shader is great for anything like fibermesh or similar, so things like Omri hair and so on. But you are then better off not using it on any scalp cap.
I generally rely on UHT Hair shaders for the bulk of transmapped hairs.
I should get Laticis' beard set at some point... it'll be interesting to see how well Unshaven 2 shaders work with it. (and vice versa)
Edit: Woops, Laticis' thing is for G3M. I'd be very curious if it could be fitted on G2M or Genesis?
Do you happen to know if Unshaven 2's beards morph well with wide open expressions? Laticis shows that his do, but none of the previews of Unshaven's have open mouths.
Ah, yeah the base hair shaders could be useful. So do you replace a hair's default Diffuse texture with them in order to remove painted-on highlights? I just don't want to spend too much this early in March, heh. :)
Unless you ctrl-click, Unshaven 2 just dropkicks all of it. If you DO want to keep some of the original hair elements, your best bet is apply it, then go back and put the cutout opacity and maybe bump map in.
What I usually do, with transmap hair, is keep the cutout opacity from the original, then go grab some strandy image and horizontally tile it a bunch in bump map OR, if I'm really feeling feisty for closeups, in Displacement and set Displacement SubD to 4 or 5.
The cutout keeps the overall shape, while having displacement or bump helps get a sense of individual hairs.
But, to be honest, I'm a little meh about Unshaven 2 for transmapped hairs. So unless you are using LAMH, Omri Hair, or something similar... meh.
As for wide open expressions, I THINK? Let me do a test.
It does follow wide open expressions. Render is forthcoming, but as usual I got carried away...
MADNESS!
(The beard is darker than the other hair, and as you can see it's following some extreme morphs and expressions!)
yup...hairy
am HOPING the two things I want go on sale tonight at 2:25 AM EST
ya, am usually up then
maybe with Freak base free with purchase...can hope :-D
Thanks for that info and the example render (nice one too!). I think I'll wait on it this time (for if and when it goes on sale again after these daily March releases are over), but that's all very good information to know. Appreciated!
No Buy Today.
Some nice Stuff (e.g Minerva or the i13 Sword Poses) but nothing i need.
Hopefully the Mindblower tomorrow is better. I have quite some staff from Yesterdays New Stuff and Artist Catalogs i want to get, but did not like the Mindblower either.
Now I had to empty my cart to buy MEC4DUnshaveb alone and refill it afterward :-( That combined with a non usable DS after yesterdays updated really make my day... grmmml
I love the idea of a killer robot, so I picked up the new ASN Model 4 during the sale, and threw together a NSFW render called Killer Code. It's on my DeviantArt page for anyone who wants to see it.
As a point of note, it doesn't come with hand morphs, like Grasp or Fist. Every joint must be individually posed.
WARNING: Moderate Violence
I'm having a little sticker shock here . March madness and I'm expected to spend 30 bucks a day in order to qualify? I can fill my gas tank up for less money than that . Kind of disappointing.
The constant "OVER 50% OFF" ads are a bit much. There isn't even a little note pointing out you aren't getting over 50% off unless you buy at least two things and at least one of them is the daily mindblower or you happened to buy the pro bundle last month.
Not if you buy the Daily mindblower. Added that to the cart, plus an $8.97 item from the still mad category and had a cart total of $17.95
Remeber that the items are "still mad" for two days, so as long as there are two items every three days you can get the 50% discount, and if one of them is the mind blower you get the over 50%. Even if there's oly oen item in a given three day period it's still an extra 10 prcentage points on the usual introductory discount.
Normally at the end of March. So you have plenty more time to find money to spend, an there will be many more opportunities to spend it.
Yay! Take my monies!
I'm repeating myself, but the things I like about the sale:
It's pretty straightforward. No punches or weird qualifiers.
The mind blower thing is pretty simple. Save 5% more (which is what '10% stack' means). And since the saving is modest, it's basically just a perk if you feel like it. I mean, unless you're spending a LOT, it's maybe a few bucks?
The list is pretty simple and the savings are consistent. 40% for one, 50% for 2+. That's it. Not a varied list where some items are 50%, some are 40%, some are 25%, some are... (etc), just 40/50.
A lot of items I haven't seen on sale before are getting discounts. I bought a BUNCH of stuff that have been sitting in my wishlist for months.
Now, if items have been on better sale before, yeah, best to sit on them for later.
Each punch in the last sale gave an additional discount, stacking up to 5 (initially lasting a week, but then the whole month.)
Buying a specific daily mindblower (instead of any newly mad item) gives "10%" (5%) but resets every single day.
Stacks of punches gave 5-10% additional savings per stack.
It's simpler because you're getting less overall. This MM is better for new releases, but much worse for older content.
(Standard disclaimer because sigh. Obviously the new releases are good value. Making one statement about a part of a thing does not mean the entire thing is thought of as bad.)
I like the way the little mad objects rotate as you scroll down the page.
Ix: On the other hand it's a lot easier to figure out if things are worth the discount, because you don't have to do a lot of guesswork about whether you're actually going to get all 5 punches and when will be 'best' to make the purchase of an item.
The guesswork... on the punches... I don't think I've ever had so many different combinations of stuff in my cart over such a short period of time because I had no idea how much I'd save on each thing...
Wow. I REALLY need to double check items before buying them. Bought a few scenes and didn't realize all the items in the scene were baked together (and darn if I can figure out how to break them out).
Which makes them pretty useless for my purposes. Welp, time for returns!
(I'm lucky that that's all I've muffed so far. Heh)
Are they too complex to separate using the Geometry Editor tool? I hear you though, I wish every object in every scene came as an additional prop - not realistic to expect it, but it would be nice. Not long ago I ended up ripping the window shutters off one item to put on another...worked out well but took some effort.
It'd be a monumental amount of work, and I'd probably be better off just modeling the dang thing myself.
If they are a single mesh (not just a sceen with multiple meshes, which you can save as subsets) selecting them with the Geometry Editor may be simple - click to seelct one polygon, then try ctrl(Win)/cmd(Mac)-* to select all connected, right-click hide un-selected, right-click delete hidden, save the isolated prop and repeat for the next.
