Can Someone Help with (Make) a Genesis Morph?

So I have this character here:

Many times I have tried to work on his nose to make it seem as if the bone in it is truly puncturing his skin--having it come out a little as it would with a real piercing, similar to what we see with horns. I have tried to use displacement maps, bump maps, and even trying to D-Form it, but none of it works. Can someone make an actual morph if I supply a model Na'vi head in obj format (if needed... I don't know if modeling off a human nose would work, but I don't see why not).

Any help in this regard would be really appreciated >_>

have you tried adding a smoothing modifier to him and making bone collision item?

My only suggestion here is to create a Primitive 'torus', and texture it to the same as the Na'Vi skin. Then, move it up and place it around the bone, against the nose and then save it there by parenting it. You can widen and thicken the torus as needed around the bone.

    Hope this helps!

  • Uhm... sorry, how do you do that? So.. no I haven't LOL. You mean making a literal bone or...?

  • Hmm I really need something that will work nicely for close ups. I rather have an actual morph, but thank you Linton.

no under edit figure geometry add a smoothing modifier to genesis

  • Ah .. Okay, I've never done that before. I tried it, and though it smoothed out the mesh, it didn't affect the piece in his nose at all... Nothing to make it look like it's actually going through and pushing his skin.

So long as you texture the primitive the same as the NaVi skin, itll blend in no problems, even in close ups.

I use primitives a lot, and done right they can merge into people and items really well. You may also be able to set it against the skin, create it to be a collision item, and Smoothing Modifier over the top of it, which would create the rounded edges over the skin and make it appear like a morph.

  • Okay, that's what I don't think I know how to do.. how do you make something a collision item? That's probably why the smoothing modifier didn't work to me!

  • Hmm I never thought of that all before, I suppose it should work for earrings too?

Anyway, this is a reference of what I'm trying to get: http://sta.sh/01udhb0zzxhj

It's in the Parameters Tab if I recall correctly, click on the item, then scroll down the tab's options, until you come across Set Collision Item, set it from there. You may need to tweak a few things, it's a little trial and error.

For earrings, should be the same process, again a bit of trial and error.

What Fool said earlier is spot on with the smoothing Mod, the % may vary though, so be patient, and it does depend on the items being used. Have fun and good luck with getting the results you are after!

  • Hmm. I'm having real trouble finding the "Set Collision Item". I even tried turning the prop into a figure. No option comes up, even if I search in the entire Parameters for Collision. Google doesn't reveal how to do this either :(

Set Collision Item is an option under Mesh Smoothing on the item that has Smoothing Modifier applied to, in your case the figure not the prop.
