Genesis/Genesis 2 Textures on Genesis 3
in The Commons
Can Genesis or Genesis 2 Textures by used on Genesis 3 products? Is there a converter, as will M4/V4 to Genesis 2? I don't like any of the G3 textures, as they make my models look like ghosts. Thanks!

This is your only option at the moment

I have the V4 one by the same vendor and it works pretty well.
Curious as to what renderer you are using as there are quite a few darker skinned G3F textures in the MP
For V4 / M4 -> G3 there is also a Converter Plugin for Backsmith3D
available on the same 3rd Party Site as noted above.
Blacksmith3d actually offers two options, the stand-alone texture transformer and the complete Blacksmith 3D studio product. A bit time intensive at first, but the end result is good.
Cayman's V4 and G2F UV products at Rendo work quite well, and have the nice add-on of also transfering textures to the G3F gens. It should also be pointed out that a lot textures sold for Genesis, as well as some G2F textures sold at other sites, use V4 UVs saved in older DAZ formats and will be needed to be converted to DUF first, so a batch skin convertor like Draagonstorm's is a big time saver.
Of the two solutions, I prefer the Blacksmith3D/Texture Transformer solution -- it's a touch more work but the result is a really nicely rendered skin that's actually optimized for G3F UVs. The biggest downside is you really need to do all your makeup and other adjustments on your V4 'donor' without having the flexibility of pure solutions. (In fact, I've been buying some of the G3F standalone makeup sets purely so I can get more of that functionality and flexibility back.)
The G2F UV set works like a charm, and because you're actually using proper G2F UVs you can go ahead and tweak things to your heart's content. However, because it has 'wearables' that are replacing the chunks of the UV space that G3F lacks, you're ultimately complicating your G3F models to use it. Also, there's some issues with mixing and matching G3F addons (which expect G3F UVs) and this product. I'm also always a bit nervous when I'm trying to use a skin/model optimized for a different UV set. Victoria 6 content actually seems to do okay, but there's a lot of other UVs out there that this won't be as useful for.
So. As said above -- I like Texture Transformer more -- it's more setup and less convenient if you're playing with multiple eyeshadows or the like, but the resulting materials are actually G3F materials. I'm hoping Blacksmith3D comes out with a plugin for Genesis and Genesis 2 soon.
(I remember when I predicted that someone or someones would come up with a solution to let people use skins/materials from earlier generations with G3F. I was called mad -- mad I tell you! But... honestly, I always bet on the cleverness of people. And in the meantime, now I have all this Sabby and Silver content that can be applied to G3F....)
Third solution...

(Basically the same as the Blacksmith 3D way, but purely manual).
What's sad is that option 3 is probably going to be the only one for a number of otherwise nice skins that DAZ made for Genesis and the early G2F figures, as there simply wasn't enough support for those UVs to make any kind of commercial product viable.
The hard part of #3 is setting up the 'from' figure of the pair. Once those are setup, though, even counting the time to load the textures, it's pretty fast. With the preset pairs I've saved, I can do a set in about 5 minutes (lowest was about 3...longest was nearly 20, but I was also rendering at that time, so the bake was very slow). And you can adapt it just about ANY figure.
Yes, it's not a 'click and shoot' solution, but it is very adaptable and doesn't rely on waiting for a plugin...
