Daz versions and incompatible items

Hi,
I know the title is a bit weird but I was wondering what Daz Studio would do if you tried loading an item which wasn't compatible with that version.
Would it crash the program or would you get a message telling you that the item doesn't work with that version.
It's something that I've always wondered. Plus, I've got a few problems with Daz3D at the moment and I'm trying to eliminate possibilites of what could be wrong.
Thanks

That's a bit of a "how long is a piece of string" question. A lot depends on exactly what you're trying to use; a plugin, or a figure or prop, or a texture, or...
You shouldn't (fingers crossed) get a crash, but there might be an error message... which might or might not be easy to understand. You might get nothing apparently wrong until you render; either you'll get not-quite-right results, or surfaces coming out black/white/invisible, or "something else".
Looking at the log file can be helpful as well. In DS it is under Help> Troubleshooting> View Log File. If you need support, including this will often give them a clue as to what may be going on.
Do you have a specific item or product giving you issues?
I was getting an error message which I posted about here: http://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/72045/dazstudio-exe-caused-access-violation#latest
It turns out that something happened to the scene and Iray couldn't render it (it was stuck on 0/31 shaders when the shader number should've been higher),
I was thinking that an imcompatible piece of clothing could've given out the error, but it now seems to be rendering as it should.
I'm now getting an error about Duplicate Formulas when I try and load G3F models but not G3M. I've opened a support ticket with Daz about it. Whatever the error is, it doesn't seem to be affecting the render engines. I'm just a bit worried that the error could "snowball" and, (eventually) cause more problems.
Go to Help>Troubleshooting>View Log after loadign G3F, scroll to the very end and then look back to find the Duplicate Formula errors. Please copy and paste them here.
I've sorted it now. One thing I am ashamed to say is that I didn't (and still don't) find the Log file easy to interpret.
To be honest, I can't fathom how Genesis 3 content got onto my other HDD/partition. I hadn't (knowingly) copied over any files or folders. :/
My log is overrum with obscurring warning about a pnglib library saying a DAZ product png file doesn't conform to proper sRGB specs. I forget the name of the product. I suppose I could open the file in Adobe Elements and resave it with an sRGB spec.
