Searching the Forum - a horror

I am just searching for a thread but with the search option for the forums it is a real nightmare, can we have smarter search options for the forum, like just searching the Discussion title? I am looking for the Tomalin Appreciation thread

but when typing it in and searching it I got every single thread with the words JACK, THREAD, APPRECIATION, shall I have a look at hundreds of sites until I find the thread I am searching for?

You can use site search from a serach engine. I had problems with Google for a while but it seems to be ok now.

    site:www.daz3d.com/forums/  tomalin appreciation

    Or something similar.

The forum search function is hopeless.

Yeah, even Google sucks at it... I didn't bother too much but with minimal effort the best I found was a thread that closed in 2013.   Is it just me, but didn't Google seem to work better a couple of years ago?

Put site:daz3d.com/forums Tomalin Appreciation in your favorite search engine that does site searches (Google does...)

Yes, the forum search is very basic, too basic...there isn't much of a way to narrow down the search terms, relevance ratings or ways to trim/filter the results.

A more fully featured search would be greatly appreciated.

What's worse is that the store search is similarly terrible, and you can't use Google as a replacement. :/

Hmm...this proves what I've long suspected...Jack is a wizard and has his name under the Taboo...or he's really a ghost and you say it 3 times and he pops up.

If he was the Chrestomanci then saying it three times would be the correct method.

I'm just trying to find out if there was a basic DAZ Original base expression set for Genesis 2 Female and the store search is giving me everything but what I want. Both the forum and store search could really use an overhaul.

People keep telling me about products I'd love to buy that I didn't know about because store search is almost useless.

I can only imagine how many products I have never and will never buy because I simply don't know they exist.

I can understand why Daz doesn't prioritize forum search, but the lack of work on store search honestly baffles me. It's much more likely to get a high return on investment than other stuff they've spent time and energy (and, thus, money) on (like DRM).

For example, go find Edit Hair. I'll wait.

There are 4 Edit Hair products. None of them come up with any combination of Edit and Hair unless you enclose them in quotes (Search for "edit hair"). Which 99% of Daz users probably wouldn't think of using.

Not to mention that you'd think a store content-driven economic approach would go even further and do some predictive modeling, like Amazon uses. That's not easy, it takes robust database technology... but, again, that's the absolute core of Daz' money flow.

    Just weird.

6 if you count the two colour sets and trying to find any of them with search was an exercise in frustration (and a couple of lost sales at the time)

Okay I tried it, and that is wierd.

Another fun one search aiko, most of the first options are some variation of aiko 6 or her bundles, now search aiko 6, suddenly she's the way back, suddenly Lee is a closer match!?

I also miss the old ability to browse an items addons, remember that? pepperidge farms remembers.

Don't think there were expression sets for Genesis 2 generation.

Occasionally I get asked which products are recommended to purchase when starting out with DAZ3D.

I had a lot of issues finding those in the store again:

    http://www.daz3d.com/genesis-3-female-head-morphs

    http://www.daz3d.com/genesis-3-female-body-morphs

    http://www.daz3d.com/genesis-3-female-expressions

    http://www.daz3d.com/genesis-3-male-head-morphs-22924

    http://www.daz3d.com/genesis-3-male-body-morphs

    http://www.daz3d.com/genesis-3-male-expressions

    http://www.daz3d.com/genesis-2-female-head-morphs

    http://www.daz3d.com/genesis-2-female-body-morphs

    http://www.daz3d.com/genesis-2-male-head-shapes

    http://www.daz3d.com/genesis-2-male-body-morphs

I then finally put those links in a note so I can copy paste them when needed...

What seems to be missing is some kind of "essentials" "Get started with" category so especially new users have a bit more guidance to find all the products they may need at first purchase.

One page in the store that shows all pro, starter bundles and the DAZ Originals head, body, expression packs.

    Update / Edit:

    Forum Search Requests:

    - Show Results as Posts or Threads

    - Search inside a Thread

    - search inside only one sub forum (Example: Search only in DAZ Studio Discussions, do not show "common" results)

    - exclude results with certain terms from a search

Enclose your search in quotes, for instance "appreciation society" will give you results in which those two words show up in in sequence. It's an exact match search.
