  I can answer my own question now because my impatience had me buy it anyway (using my PC coupon).

  It is a corner vignette. If you pose a figure looking in from the doorway, she will be gazing upon an infinite chasm opposite. I'm playing with adding instances of the walls but is it possible to copy the actual wall node? I remember that Reality had problems rendering instances. 

  There does seem to be a copy option for the node but strange paste options and I couldn't get the copy into the scene.

  Well, it does render in Reality with the instance added. However, even without the instance, the is a strange artefact on one of the walls. I'm assuming this is only something that happens in Luxrender but I'd welcome any ideas about what it may be. In the attached image, there is a strange shadow in the corner, on the wall with the door.

  Copy is for settings, not items. If you want to literally coipy an item use the Duplicate command, also in the Edit menu.

  Don't overuse it or it will lose it's specialness.
