Tip of the Day - Keep your old installers!
Whether you think you need to or not, you should definitely keep your old installers (especially for software, add-ons or other items that may install stuff in the Daz Directory)
Unfortunately for me, I can't use Daz 4.8 or Daz 4.9 due to my Nvidia drivers and a Daz Studio conflict, and wanted to get a copy of DAZ Decimator for 4.7 (which I purchased) which is the only version that works on my PC at this moment. Of course, we all know that you can't download old versions, so the common response is: "Contact customer support"
Well I did, and here is the reponse:
"Unfortunately we no longer support older versions of Daz studio or have old versions of plugins to use with them.
Sorry for the inconvenience.
Have a good day.
CSpencer"
Do I believe a software company actually "throws away" old versions, deletes the source code, and no longer has them? no...
On the other hand, it's apparent, they are not going to provide them. Instead they will say, "Sorry you can't use your purchased item due to an unfortunate situation, but -> Have a good day!"
So...a Handy Tip! Keep all of your old installers!!!!
(I used to be able to use the Decimator and Daz 4.8, but the new NVidia drivers cause a blue screen when I launch Daz, and rollback causes touchscreen issues on my laptop. Hopefully a new driver update will fix the issue, but until then, I am stuck...)

You purchased Decimator for a later version of DS 4, but they won't help you out with an older version? Yeah, nice way of help out a customer.
This is my way of looking at it DAZ... You don't have to "support" an older version of the software, but you should "support" a customer who needs help... Sorry for the inconvenience, but thats a cold useless answer... NOBODY believes you delete old versions of anything, it would probably be legally inadvisable to so as there would be no archive to refer to should the need arise... What that statement does do is make Customer Support look apathetic and cold, handing out canned statements amounting to "sucks to be you" thinly covered by a "Have a good day"... What's that, a "you're fired notice" with a happy face sticker?
What they should do is offer you a refund or store credit. DS 4.7 was not that long ago, we are not talking 2.3 or even 3... That's just lame and a totally Apple move.
This has always been good advice, even before the most recent DRM changes in 4.9.
Yea, tried and failed :(
"How about a refund then on that product (in Order #XXXXXXXXX), even though it is past 30 days, since I can no longer use the item?"
"Unfortunately we cannot offer you a refund after 30 days...."
This is why it is very important to KEEP YOUR INSTALLERS!!
So your Nvidia driver has a problem and Daz is responsible for that ?
What did Nvidia customer support have to say about the bug report you put in about it?
Why did you not just reinstall the old driver that worked? Yes I see the part about the rollback making your touchscreen not work. Have you tried a clean reinstall of the working driver?
The reason for "..we no longer support older versions of Daz studio." is apparently because they don't have the staff to support more than one version. I could understand this if 4.8 and 4.9 where fundamentally different software, but they're essentially the same with only a few fixes and modifications to content delivery. I don't believe that Daz is so financially strapped that they are unable to stand behind their products by employing a few extra staff, and if they are, that's a new worry in itself.
The obvious consequence of this policy is that those currently experienceing issues with 4.9, and there seems to be many of them, will be left without support once version 5 is relaeasd, and so on and so on. An interesting business model. So save old installers if you want to, but don't expect Daz to help you out with them if you have a problem. But I suppose they could say that's it's free software anyway so you can't expect too much, and maybe that is right.
...I have my installers on backup all the way back to ver 1.7.
Yeah, I'm a packrat.
No, Daz policies are what they are, this is just the situation, so that others can understand the policies and don't get caught in the same situation (and that it is important to keep your old installers!) It is important to keep well informed, even if you don't like the information.
Nvidia said I should contact my laptop manufacturer, and they said that I should run with the latest supported drivers for optimal performance. So I am, and everything works, but DS 4.8/4.9. In both cases I can download old versions of their drivers, but they are not formally supported...and since I am 99% working on my laptop, reverting with the risk of breaking other things is not an attractive option.
To be clear, I was not looking for old product "support", since even my company does not support old versions of software. On the other hand, I was surprised that Daz "no longer has" old versions of add-on's once a new version is released. I can understand providing "without support", but to just get rid of them, seems odd.
...but now we know.
save em all. I have em on 2 computer hdd and waiting for usb3 terrabyte to get here to make another backup.
i could prolly delete the old exe installers. lol
this thread will prolly get ko'd, they don't like when you quote customer support responses.
