Question about David 3 for Genesis

The David 3 for Genesis product is on sale today (with the purchase of a new release, and the new zombie walker looks pretty good) and I thinking about getting it, but was wondering a few things.
I realize that this product lets me duplicate the basic shape and proportions of David 3 onto the newer Genesis figure.
But does it also let me easily let the new figure wear clothing created for David 3? Or is that already covered by the Autofit option?
Does it do anything else cool? I doubt this product allows me to apply David maps to the Genesis figure, correct?

Comments
Genesis does not have a D3 clone included by default, the clone is provided by that product.
And no, it doesn't enable you to use D3 maps on Genesis.
It will let you put David 3 clothing onto Genesis, but as Leana said, you can not put the maps for D3 onto to Genesis. You need Texture Convertor 2 for this.
If you have Generation X and the D3 add on, then together with this you can also move D3 character morphs onto Genesis.
I'm pretty sure I know the answer to this, but I will asky anyway. When you say, "you cannot put the maps for D3 onto to Genesis," you are referring to skin. If I put D3 clothing on Genesis, I can apply the texture maps to the clothing, correct?
Well yeah
Thanks. I know that seems obvious, but I thought I'd ask to be 100% sure.
Actually D3 maps on Genesis is easier than later figures as body one map and head another so only two zones
if you bake vertex colours in Blender or some other app and transfer
Thanks for the tips, fool. That is probably more work than I'm going to invest because I don't think there are any characters that are important enough to me to warrant that kind of work. But still, it's good to know. I did buy it today, BTW. And the ethnic morph packages for Genesis. With the discount and a coupon, they were only about $1.50 - $1.80, each.
I have all these products mentioned. Does anyone know if Texture Convertor works OK in windows 10? I might try converting some of my David 3 textures to use on David 3 for Genesis. May even try transfering the morphs. Do you have to use Gen X for that? I have Gen X and X2.
Yes, you need GenX (or GenX2 for Genesis 2), and the add-on for D3: http://www.daz3d.com/genx-addon-gen3-for-s3-d3-and-f3
Gen X2 will transfer stuff to either Genesis or Genesis 2. Indeed if you have the old Gen X you should hopefully have it uninstalled. Gen X2 completely replaced GenX, and there is no need to use the older version at all.
So I would convert David 3's texture to M4 using Texture Convertor 2 and then Genesis can use M4 textures. Or is there another add on that I need that converts the texture to genesis?
And if David 3 for Genesis makes genesis look like David 3, then why would you need to transfer the morphs?
Thanks.
If you want a morphed David shape rather than the default shape and there isn't a comparable morph for Genesis.
David3 for Genesis, makes Genesis look like D3, but if you want to transfer characters based on D3, or any of D3's head/body morphs, then you will need to transfer the morphs. For this you will need GenX2 and the David3 GenX add on. You can also use the transfer utility to transfer morphs, but this method is harder to do, but there are several tutorials around on how to do it. For example, below I have transferred the D3 character "Santa for David3". Skin was transferred using TC2, and morph with GenX2. The figure shown is G2M, but I could have just as easily transferred to Genesis.
Thanks, Havos and Fixmypcmike.
Am I correct that you have to convert the texture M4? I don't see an option to convert the texture to Genesis or Genesis 2. I know I have a product that lets me use M4 textures on Genesis 2. Does Genesis require a similar product? Or can it use them by default. I'm started to get the hang of this. But its hard to remember who can do what to who!
TC2 is quite old, and was written to convert gen 3 skins to gen 4. However since Genesis supports M4/V4 skins by default, and also you can get adds for M4 UVs for G2M and V4 UVs for G2F (and G3F via another vendor at another store), then being able to convert Gen 3 to M4 or V4 is an acceptable solution to using the skins on later Genesis models.
So in short, if you are using Genesis, then you are covered, you do not need anything else. (apart from TC2 and the relevant plug ins of course). BTW for TC2 you do not really need all the separate Gen 3 plug-ins. I have the ones for V4,M4 and V3 and that is enough to convert any Gen3 skin to M4 or V4. I got TC2 during a sale getting the V4/V3/TC2 as a bundle, and then added M4 plugin later. I have converted A3,V3,D3 and H3 skins using just these plug-ins.
Thanks, Havos!
david 6, time to give up hope?
Considering that 1) Genesis 3 Male has been released, so the chances of getting any new G2M figure are very low, and 2) a member of DAZ Staff told us that popular figures get a new generation and that David and Hiro "simply don't sell" I really doubt we'll see any David 6 or Hiro 6.
or a David 7 for the matter. However if they continue to release G3F amd G3M in pairs like they seemed to be doing at the moment, then David 7 could arrive with Stephanie 7 (assuming she arrives of course).
Well, they're finally releasing an official "The Guy" to go with The Girl, so anything can happen for Generation 7 I suppose.
Well, let's put it this way, of course characters Stephanie and Aiko will show-up as they do every Generation. Victoria, Michael, Stephanie, and Aiko have been a persistent quartette since Generation 2 and nothing has ever stop any of them yet from meeting this pattern, not even risky sales.
So, as suggested by Leana, if DAZ is so bold as to give us The Guy in this 7th cycle, it might very well spark a faint glimmer of hope for David and Hiro WHEN Stephanie and Aiko make their appearances.
I'd also been missing David for the past few years. He was never an important character to me, but he was nice to have around.
Okay, I know the sexes are wrong for this comparison, but if Michael is Barbie, then that makes David Skipper! :-)
Time to start a David appreciation thread.
People say that DAZ says he doesn't sell, but in some circle he is the most used model, still. Period. And by a long shot. Some people still prefer David 3 to Michael 4. (In some ways, I am one of those people).
David 5 was a nice addition to the Genesis gene pool and there was some very nice stuff done for him. I'd have bought anything David 6 and I will buy anything David 7.
Also have to remember that at the time when David was launched Genesis and DS were no where near as popular as they are now, which could explain the poor sales. I imagine if a Gianni 5 had arrived at the same time, he could have been a flop as well, but I assume Gianni 6 did well enough for DAZ to think a 7 was also worth it.
I'll try to dig David out of the mothballs for something in the future. So if you guys start a David Appreciation thread, I'll contribute to it.
And I do like David 3 (not as much as Michael 4, though -- he's still m'man!). But David 3 seemed to be a leap forward at that time, and his body shape still holds up pretty well, even after all these years.
I second the David appeciation, David 5 was my favorite figure ever. I dialed bits of him into everyone including a transferred version into most of my gen 2 women. He was the best for getting musculature without muscles. In Dazland where the women are smooth and the men have 6-packs, David 5 was my remedy.
I'm still holding out for "Nude Young Woman 7". This figure hasn't been renewed since the first one:
http://docs.daz3d.com/doku.php/public/read_me/index/129/start (link note: includes image of 3D model of nude young woman)
DAZ has been neglecting the nude young woman community for quite some time, and that just seems somehow wrong.
To be not entirely frivolous, I've always thought this product is pretty outstanding:
https://www.daz3d.com/shimuzu-s-proportional-poses-for-david-5
For some reason I keep missing it during sales.
They do look like nice poses.
I would certainly buy a new David if they brought one out. When David 3 was current, I thought he was the best looking of the male characters. Now of course there are many more to choose from.
To more questions...
1. Does Texture Convertor 2 create pz2 files to go with the converted textures? I'm thinking no as it didn't ask me where to put them. If not, then how do I create some? Can I load another genesis or would it be M4 material preset and then change the materials and then save it to a new name?
2. When you use GenX2 to transfer the morphs, does it put them in a folder or does it just mix them in with all the other Genesis morphs? And I assume once you transfer them that they will always load with Genesis from then on?
Thanks.
It does create pz2 files. Go into the settings (the small cog wheel at the top right), and there you can specify which directory TC2 will store the pz2, and where it will store the texture files.
With GenX2 you can select a directory for where to store the files. If you do not set this, it uses one of your runtimes (I believe by default it uses the runtime where it found D3/M4 etc). The morphs are stored under the data part of the runtime, so if creating morphs from David3 for G2M, they are placed under data/DAZ 3D/Genesis2/Male/Morphs/D3D Gen X/David 3
If transferring a character I would advise you to use the option "Create single morph", rather than transferring the numerous individual morphs that make up the character, and then create a preset to dial them in the appropriate amount. A single morph is much easier to manage and find.
