Hello to anyone here. It's my first post at Daz forum but i'm not new user.

I want to share my experience with some minor problems i had with Reality 4.1 render engine and maybe this will help and other people.

Recently i bought this excellent (in my opinion) product but when i first tried to make some test renders i faced some problems ..i tried first of my own to see what is happening but i couldn't do much..

My problem was only with eye surfaces at any figure. i had a black view.

So i tried to find any info about this problem and i started searching at the product forum pages.

Finally after some infos and the excellent support from Pret a 3D the problem solved

The problem was mainly with the materials in Reality interface settings...

I had to convert the transmission texture to type color and then to change color to pure white. In Reality 4.1 there are 14 different types of textures.

The image map in the transmission channel is only one of the 14 types.Asolid color is a type of texture.

So to fix this problem with black soulness eyes i had to choose Cornea in materials tab and then in transmissin texture click the gear to open the right side panel (texture editor) and on the drop down meny to select color type and to the color swatch to select pure white color

There also you can choose from the pallete any other color but not in this case

After that the render at eyes was a little better but still not good

So i had to change the pupil at materials tab and make it visible (default hidden) and set it to matte and completely black

Again big improvement but something was missing....

So again in the Cornea material i had to modify the texture in the bump map channel.so i clicked the gear meny to it and i select unlink or detach to remove the bump map.

But then i noticed that the iris in the eye was not good..i was getting pixels instead of real iris look!

So the fix for that was to change the bump map on the Iris....The values were too high so i set it to positive 0.0001 and negative to 0.0001

So after these changes finnally i got the results i was expecting...

Reality is great and is worth of it's money (in my opinion) and it have ecxellent support! I bought this product because i wanted to have a different view in renders than 3d delight and Daz studio Iray. All of them are great and amazing.

i attaching some photos from my renders till the final render i made with a default character from Daz Studio

and sorry if i made any mistakes in my writing :) i'm not used to post at forums :)

Many of the textures and bumps for eyes on a figure are residual in LuxRender and put there for other rendering engines to approximate a more realistic outcome. In real life eye surfaces dont have reflections built into them, they simply reflect light but since it's not uncommon for an artist to include those highlights with paint or ink or white space to save time it can subtract from the overall result. In many cases it's best to remove these "cheats" and try to render as naturally as possible. LuxRender had many  approximate settings for eye surfaces, etc. and often stripping out the stuff you don't need and using very simple settings will result in a more realistic result with an improved render time since those cheats are no longer necessary or part of the render engines responsibility.

  • Hi dear StratDragon! You are right..After all both of them Reality and lux are great and they doing amazing renders when you know what you doing :)

Thank you for your reply and for your add!

Nice post Angelheart77 and welcome to the forums! I have been using Reality since it was released andf remember going thru the same issue you had way back when! Reality and Luxrender are solely responsable for me becoming a DS user as I was a poser only user before it, but was tired of the less than realistic results I was getting with the firefly renderer and how hard it was to use the node based material room in poser.

I agree on the support statement with Reality and Paolo, he has alawys tried to come thru for me when I had questions or issues. With the release of the latest version of Reality I found I was unable to use it because the latest version of Luxrender would not run due to my OS (Vista). Paolo tried many different personal builds to try and get me running, but it was not meant to be.

Have fun with Luxrender and keep striving to improve with every render.
