Willing to Pay a Daz Guru to help me Set Up my New Computer Base Directory with DIM

Hello Daz Gurus;

I come to you all out of desperation.   I put a help ticket into the Tech Support an entire week ago with no response yet.   No response...

I followed a video's instruction on setting up the DIM and Daz files on a new computer and this failed too.    After this I tried to get help on the Technical Support Forum here and just could not follow what they were trying to say.  Sometimes people who know a lot can not articulate well to a person who does not making a nomenclature disconnect is the best way I can describe it.

The problem is I have a fast solid state C drive where I want my Rendering to take place.  I have a super large D drive (but slower of course) where I stored all of my Daz files from my old computer.

I need somebody ((And I will pay you for your time as I am not presently destitute by any means)) to look at my paths and get them to match correctly for DIM and the Daz 6 Base Directory.  This seems straight forward enough but I'm having problems getting my old runtime files to match.   Someone told me that I had embedded a directory within the Base Directly and Daz doesn't like this.

My email is [email removed - PMs do not require exposing your address]  I'm willing to talk by telephone or other video conferencing techniques that allows you gurus to see how my computer is laid out.  I know how to send screne shots too.  We can discuss a rate of your choice (as long as it ain't crazy high) and I will gladly pay you through Paypal or send you a check etc.

I'm desperate at this point and need an expert to get me up and running again.   If I can just get the old files in the new D drive correctly in the Base Directory and have DIM matched I think everything will be fine.   As it is right now All of the Daz stuff installed but I'm missing most of my morphs and textures so there was a issue of my own making there.

Please help me out and I will compensate you for your time.

It's not that hard, really. All you need to do, from what I can see, is to make the path in Studio's Content Directory Manager (CDM) match the installation path set in DIM (i.e., "D:/Daz D Drive Big"), so use that in CDM for the DAZ Studio Formats path. You can remove the other entries if you are not using them. Paths can be added/removed /edited at will without losing any data.

BTW, rendering does not depend on the drive you use (unless it is swapping to the disc cache), it is all about the video card (if it supports Iray with sufficient VRAM) and system memory. Once a scene loads all its data, there is little or no disc interaction, unless you start fiddling with morphs/expressions or materials.

EDIT: I originally put the shortcut, but that is for use in DIM when you want to quickly change installation folders, if you have more than one.

Do I need to reinstall all of the Daz stuff that didn't work out the first time I added it to the new computer (incorrectly) that didn't come out right?

And I'm still stuck... I don't know if I have to delete a directory or what...

I added one more image of what my D Drive looks like:

Seeing as you have only used one installation path, all of your content should be there (D:/Daz D Drive Big). If you used DIM to install, it will have created an entire folder tree under that drive, and there should not be any nested folders, unless you installed something manually. If you changed the installation path in DIM, some content will be in those other folders. Studio can see it, but DIM might get confused if it does not know about the other installation paths. If all of your content was installed to the one defined installation path, you should not have to re-install anyting. It would be useful to see the next level of folders under the ones you show on your D drive. Re-installing can be done by selecting multiple files from the Installed tab in DIM and simply right-clicking and selecting Re-Install Packages-All Selected.

Some users put everyting in one installation folder to make it easier to find (no jumping around between libraries), but that is still hit or miss. There are a number of, let's call them variations, of how content folders are actually named (mis-spelling, strange hierarchy, etc. but there is not much you can really do about it without messing things up). There is, but let's focus on the current problem.

If you want to have other Libraries (not just for Daz products, but for workflow, experiments, saved files, non-DAZ, etc.) so as to not mix your work in with DIM-installed products (highly recommended), you will need to add each one to the CDM list of Daz Studio formats. Studio will display all of the libraries (aka Mapped Folders) you have defined.

I think I'd like different Libraries, one for Poser Content, and a few others.

I'm not sure if I originally installed to D:/Daz De Drive Big... I might have changed that on somebody's advice because I can't remember.

Well, let's see that next level of folders on D:/Daz D Big Drive, and we'll drill down from there.

Poser uses a different, but overlapping, folder system with DAZ content. Poser uses Runtime as its main root folder, but DAZ also uses Runtime/Textures for bitmaps.

I recommend installing everything from DIM to ONE library. If you try to split Poser stuff into a separate library, that makes DIM much more difficult to use. Whenever you install a product, you would have to change the DIM installation library to one or the other. Mistakes are inevitable. Keep it simple. You are already having difficulty. Don't make it harder on yourself.

I can actually pull that off Barbult... It's just getting everything started is the problem for me.

Yes, but I would like you to expand those folders to the next level down, at least, and maybe more. If there is a Runtime folder, expand that one. It will help show where things have actually been installed.

Why not Delete Daz 6 all together?

Keep DIM where it is at.

And then by knowing where my Poser and Third party Content is at (on the D drive), install it properly rather than having the wrong paths as I have now?   Paths that need to be unscrambled which seems to be making things more complicated than they need to be.

Unless you have a 50xx series GPU which won't work on DS4, there's no advantage to using DS6. You may as well stay on 4.24.

Okay, first let's dispell the notion the the version of Studio has anything to do with the content installation. That is only important for certain scripts and plugins (which at the moment is, I would say, too many). Rendering with Iray is also the big showstopper depending on the video card in your system. Neither has any effect on where the content is installed. You can have DS4.24 and DS6.2025.(...) (General Release and Beta) installed at the same time and they can use the same library folders.

All that needs to be done is configure the paths used by each version (i.e., the same for all) so that whichever version of Studio you use can find the content. As mentioned, many scripts and plugins will not work yet on DS6, but you can still use them on DS4.24, and open the scenes in DS6, if need be. If both are configured to read the same folders for content, you won't have any problems. Uninstalling DS6 will not help in any way.

Now, as to that folder tree under D:/Daz D Big Drive, we will be able to tell where your libraries are located. They will have tell-tale folder structures that are hard to miss. Without that information, I can't really help you configure the Libraries (aka mapped folders) to enter in the Content Directory Manager.

@squirt This expanded folder tree information is CRITICAL to get you the help you need. Just showing the top level folders, as shown in your screendshot, is not enough detail. You need to show what folders are within those top level folders, and maybe even what folders are within that next level down. NorhtOf45 is looking for teltale folder names within those top level folders. He knows his stuff! He can help if you give him the information he needs.
