    I'm adopted, so I have an amended birth certificate. I'm not allowed to ever have the original. It apparently doesn't matter that I found my bio familes on Ancestry, and both bio parents have passed. So have both my adoptive parents, for that matter, so I"m the only one involved who's still alive. The state doesn't care.

    The fraud training at my workplace included a portion in which people were using AI to produce copies of cancelled checks.

My birth state does now allows adult adoptees to get the a copy of the one listing biological parents, under at least some circumstances. I just never looked into getting it when I was younger. Today, if I decide to look for blood relatives, it would probably be easier to use a DNA kit like 23 and Me. I might be more likely to find relatives who were open to the possibility of being contacted by an unknown sibling, cousin, etc.

    I'm so sorry for both of you that it's such a trial to get info... a couple years ago my state passed a law saying that adoptees are entitled to their original birth records. Maybe there's hope that other places will eventually follow.

    complaint: Still 86F and super humid out an hour before sunset today. That walk was 100% sweat.

    non-complaint: Little Dude was happy, and the sunset was beautiful, and we got to hear the loons singing on the lake. And there was a bit of a (damp) breeze, and with the sun so close to going down, at least that wasn't pounding down on me (and baking back up from the black asphalt of the trail). And I'm four miles healthier! And that shower felt a.maz.ing.

    The best part about being in a FIFA city is, the mayor is actually trying to get construction projects out of the way. There are streets that have had cones and barriers for years, and suddenly they're clear now.

    I feel your weather pain. The joke in Minnesota is that if you don't like the weather, that's okay. Just wait five minutes.

    In 1988 I went on holiday to Iceland, around end of June. It was a camping tour of the south of the country. We had rain, drizzle, cloudless sky, fog, sun, no wind, howling gale and hail every day. The only weather we didn't have every day was snow. The white pummice gravel blowing in drifts in the wind made up for that, with the drifts of gravel being blown up to mid shin level on me (32cm/13").

    I'm rather enjoying the weather at the moment in Kent, sunny with heavy showers.

    At least they haven't vanished entirely, the way Green & Black's Organic Hot Chocolate has.

    Disappointment but non-complaint:  I still don't have my new 8,000btu air-conditioner installed.  It's still sitting in the box in my livingroom/office/lab waiting for neighbor guy to carry it upstairs and window it.  I'm not complaining because it hasn't been necessary yet.  This has been a cool May/June this year.surprise  85F has been the highest, and that only for a few hours.  Nighttime temps haven't gotten over 72F yet.  With windows open, and an oscillating fan circulating the air in my bedroom at night it's tolerable.yes  And downstairs house temps haven't gotten above 79F during the day, which is also OK with the bathroom window fan pulling coolish air from the upstairs down through my livingroom/office/lab through the kitchen, and out the bathroom window.  Next week is going to be in the high 60sF so I haven't bothered neighbor guy.  But I think the late summer is going to be a lot hotter this year.  Just a hunch.indecision

    Complaint:  The tolerable weather has also put a kibosh on the potential sale of my unuseably oversized (12,000btu, 27" window req.) air-conditioner.sad  Also still sitting unboxed in its carton, in the kitchen forming the base of a pile of boxes used as extra kitchen counter space.  Nobody's responding to my ads.  I would really like to get rid of that HUGE box and recoup at least some of my money from it.frown​

    Non-Complaint: We had a night time temperature of 7C (45F) last night, and with the window open I slept very well.

    I'm not that invested/interested in finding out, which seems to be a minority view among adoptees. I do think about it once in a while. My daughter has offered to get me a 23 & Me kit as a Christmas gift and I might go for it. If so, I will let you all know how it goes.

    Arkansas is the same way. When we moved here from Florida, Husband (who grew up here) told me, "Don't like the weather? Wait 30 minutes & it'll change." A few months later, I told him, "You lied! Weather changes in 5 minutes, 10 at most!" And don't get me started on how I can't even escape hurricanes up here because so many Gulf ones retire to Arkansas and dump scary amounts of rain here.

    Sorry! I have not been busy as much lately.  I just got a new bluetooth keyboard. I am having problems setting up the keyboard the way I want it to be but I think I just solved the problem.

    I have been dealing with some health issues.  Including crashing after donating to Red Cross and not eating enough afterwards.  I am also having mobility issues with my knees.

    Non-complaint:  Yay!  Neighbor guy & wife came by and installed my new A/C.smiley  Wheee... Aye Admiral thar be cools here!  But of course the temps are predicted downward next week.indecision  Neighbor guy took the A/C box and also took the box containing my old printer.  Yay, two boxes down, two more to go.  I'm unobstructed into the kitchen for the first time in 6 months.  Life is good.yes

    Complaint? Charlie woke me at 12:48am with the infamous "hack, hack, hack" sound as he lost his cookies on the floor and then on bed’s throw, next to his toys. He is one miserable cat. By the time I had cleaned it all up, I was awake totally. Coffee made, news on, and Sydney 9 to check out. Charlie asleep on the bed, with front paws tucked under his chin.

    Today is my flatmate's day off. We can sleep in. Yeah.

    Non-complaint:  Yay, I finally have an eye appointment.smiley  My primary physician has been nagging me about getting another eye checkup (for glaucoma and other aging issues).  A couple months ago (well at least a month) I got an email thing from my eye doctor that said "It's that time again".  Yeah, yeah, OK, so I filled out the request for an appointment, sent it, and waited for a call back or email, or something, but nope... nada, nunca, nothing.  So, a few days ago I called directly and set up an appointment.  Sooner than I wanted but, um, OK.  Next Wednesday.  I'll be in a new pay period so budget has been reset and I'm gonna splurge on some minor excitement.devil  The eye doctor is near the local mall on the far side of the city.  I'll take the one and only bus from home and get to the eye doctor for the 9:15 appointment.  Afterwards I'll get myself the final mile by bus or Uber to the mall area and have breakfast at Wendy's, toddle across the street to the mall and shop in J.C. Penney for new jeans, toddle to Olive Garden on the corner of the mall parking lot for lunch, Uber back to the center of the city for a blood test at the medical center, toddle across the street to Tim Horton's to get a couple of donuts and muffins to take home, and finally Uber home.  A huge mini-adventure!  Wheee...yes  Weather, so far, looks to be perfect, partly cloudy, in the low 70s.  

    Complaint:  I'm still learning the limits of my new medical insurance situation, my old insurance (a "Medicare Advantage" plan) covered some eye services, but my new plan is a "Medicare Supplement" (aka: MediGap) plan "with high deductable".  This type of plan pays for whatever basic Medicare doesn't, but doesn't pay a cent until after exhausting a high deductable (about $3000).  Which means that since basic Medicare doesn't cover eye problems, I'll see the entire bill from the eye doctor.surprise   It remains to be seen just how big my eye exam bill is going to be.  This first year on a MediGap plan has been an eye opener.frown
