At my wits end!

I'm supposed to plug an 8 power pin plug into an 8 power pin socket on the mother board. I can't find it, plus if it's there, it isn't labelled.

There's two seperate 4 pins, and the separate 8 pins. I haven't got a clue what I'm doing.

Here's a link to the DA folder with the pictures: https://www.deviantart.com/n-rarts/gallery/96850952/computer-angst

Any questions, and I will do my best to answer them.

Thanks in advance

Unfortunately, those are very small photos, so they're not a huge amount of help.

Do you know what model of motherboard it is?

Are you speaking about the CPU power plug ? It's usually close to the CPU socket.

Once upon a time, it was a 4 pins socket, then they migrated to 8 pins socket so a power supply may have CPU cable with a 2x4 pins plug as a way to support older motherboard.

But like Matt said, with the reference of the motherboard, we will be able to look for  the manual and should be able to help you more precisely.

According to the motherboard spec is says:

    - 1 x 4 pin 12V Power Connector

Which matches the board as I see it.

Yeah, the reason that a lot of power supplies have the split CPU connectors that can be 4 or 8 pin is that some boards only demand 4-pin CPU power. That was my expectation, given it's clearly a small-size MoBo, but I wanted to be able to check the hardware spec to be *sure* that was the case before I advised that it might be.

I've been over a year since I plugged mine in but it's usually an 8 pin plug + a 4 pin plug together that get plugged into a 12 pin plug slot. They are keyed so you can't plug them into the wrong location. And that is the important part. Knowing that I typically don't even check the PDF/schematics because I know those power supply plugs for the motherboard from the power supply are keyed and so you just blindly try until you put the right ones in the right slots. Now, where have I heard that before?

    Thanks for the replies everyone.

At the time, I had spent most of the afternoon arguing with ChatGPT about it (before I posted here). And it just stressed me out so much, that I just couldn't take anything in.

So yesterday, I lugged it to the nearest repair shop and asked them to sort it out.

There are cables in the bottom of the computer which aren't connected - Spares, just in case I upgrade anything. Which I'll be upgrading the RAM from 16GB to 32GB, and adding an SSD - Hopefully I can get 2TB at a good price.

They didn't charge to sort it, but I tipped the guy just for sorting Windows (as well as buy a gaming bundle - Mouse, keyboard, headset, and mousepad).

So, I'm going to finish setting it up today, and go from there.

    Thanks again yes
