Leon not part of the G8-family?

JUJUJUJU Posts: 1,132

I saw https://www.daz3d.com/leon and he is fantastic! What a cute boy! Great hair and clothes in the bundle. Of course he it in my cart. But then a friend pointed out, that he is not a G8M character!  What? Not compatible with G8M at all? A stand alone figure? What a pity..... Or is it a misunderstanding?

    From the readme:

    Product Information

    • Required Products: None

Leon is an original standalone realistic figure of a cute little boy, every single vert and every single pixel of whom was made by Vyusur from scratch. Leon has face rigging and he is equipped with essential pose controls. Moreover, he is completed with two hair items, five fiber brows, one set of fiber lashes and a set of clothes of one dForce singlet, one dForce shirt, briefs, jeans and sandals. His set also includes 10 poses and mirrors for non symmetrical ones.

Ooh, he is really cute, and you get a lot in the bundle.. but if he doesn't fit G8 clothes and poses then that is a bit of an issue.

There is no actual description for this chap at all. So glad I saw this thread before buying.

Ah, didn't check the readme: makes him pretty useless. Oh well. Nice figure.

I think DAZ left off the description accidently

honestly though its not hard for the more experienced users to size a dressed figure to approximate then under edit rigging convert clothes to props and use dforce

Wendy, thank you very much for paying attention. I don't know why the description is missing. The description should look like this: "Leon is an original standalone realistic figure of a cute little boy, every single vert and every single pixel of whom was made by Vyusur from scratch. Leon has face rigging and he is equipped with essential pose controls. Moreover, he is completed with two hair items, five fiber brows, one set of fiber lashes and a set of clothes of one singlet, one shirt, briefs, jeans and sandals. It's not just the description. It says: "Compatible Figures: N/A"

So it's not a G8? What clothes can we put on him, what poses can we use with him, other than the ones in the set?

  • VyusurVyusur Posts: 2,235

Of course I plan to support my figure with clothing and other stuff in future.

Does that mean that G8 (or other generation) clothes aren't usable by default?

None of Genesis 8 clothing or something else is compatible with Leon figure.

Though presumably items that work with dForce might be adjusted to fit the base pose (or a specially made pose) and then simulated.

I take Wendy's point about the possibility of using G8 stuff: probably beyond me as a very incompetent Daz user. Undecided about this, as it looks like there's quite a lot of work needed at my end.

Anything dforce, so long as you do not use fit-to but instead position him inside the clothes and use an animated simulation to the pose you want. I would assume anyway, based on many experiments with using dynamics built for older figures on G3.

Thank you, that's good to know.

I'm still mostly using pre-dForce clothes, although I'll get into dForce eventually, it's just a question of when... :D

    Wonderful figure!

For Daz Studio users, Wendy mentioned one way to convert (DForce).  Another way of adapting clothing across figures can be done by adjusting the mesh to fit and running the transfer utility.  It is a more experienced user method, but the bridge to Hexagon minimizes some of the litte things one would have to know.  You could lose some morphs, though.  If I get a chance this week, I'll track down the (formerly male) content creation thread and post an example.  In the meantime, I'm sure SickleYield or another generous person has posted the workflow somewhere using other figures.

  • Wouldn't you be able to make a G8 clone (or any other generation) of him and both ways and then the clothing would fit both ways? Similar to what other figures have done to have access different genesis generation of clothes.

Still tracking down my other links.  Here is a clone-related thread.  Note - the thread won't be exactly the same but very, very similar to Patrick's suggestion.

    To all:

Why bother? A lot of work for minimal gain in my perspective.

Always the question, and the answer for different people will be different, or for different projects.  Speaking only for myself, sometimes I have a specific idea in my mind and to pursue that requires kit-bashing or content creation.  Other times a PA's or Daz's product has inspired me and little to no customization is required.

    How old is he?

  • WendyLuvsCatzWendyLuvsCatz Posts: 40,039

well if you need a kid he is handy as is and you can easily retexture the clothing with shaders

  • I was interested in this figure. It is made beautiful. In addition, the figures of boys are rare, but they are also sometimes needed. But I was upset that the figure is not Genesis 8. Why is this so? After all, Vyusur, your other models are all Genesis 8. Is it possible in the future to make it Genesis 8? Then there would have more buyers, I think.

PS. Привет, я тоже из России.

    @Vyusur Congratulations, looks fantastic!!!!

afraid I am wishlisting him for now as I do not have a great need for a child but he looks lovely and read your Carrara post so want to try him one day and make him clothes!

I spent far more money than I should have this month already

  • What a shame really, that Leon is not compatible with any other stuff, like clothing and poses, therefore I aksed for a refund, as I haven't seen that he's a standalone figure ... and some of his poses doesn't work properly.

    @Vyusur Congratulations, looks fantastic!!!!

I'm with Tosca, I think you did an OUTSTANDING job with this stand alone figure.  DAZ should hire you full time.

I must say it would have been good to include a way to transfer clothing and hair to him from Genesis 3 & 8.  Perhaps you can create a new package for converting with the proper scripts to do that.

Congratulations on your release! WOW! heart

Thank you so much for your kind words! Alas I am not able to write scripts. It's much easier to me to create one more figure than to write any script.

He really is wonderful, Vyusur. Such an expressionful face and eyes. You have really raised the bar here.

I sadly can't justify investing in another standalone character right now, not when there is so much that can be shared amongst the Genesis characters.

If you ever make him compatible, he is straight in my basket.

Thank you all for your nice comments! I am not going to make the same morph for Genesis figure. I can only promise to make more content for this particular figure in future.

  • Will he have a female counterpart in the near future?
