The Trumen call the mutants backward savages with no remorse and very little humanity. Some may say this is propaganda or stories to frighten young children--unless they've seen the mutant warlord Kallisto. She is deemed a savage among her own people, but she does what she must to survive in one of the most inhospitable environments of this desolate Earth.
