  • Daz Studio Pro BETA - version 4.9.0.21!

So you put it somewhere where the other person with an account on your computer can't get to it, then they still can't get to it. Nothing changed.

Which...for me looks like to set it up for the possibility of account switching would require a complete reinstall of content.

Are you talking Daz accounts or user accounts on your PC? In either case, if your content is installed to a location that can actually be read from by your computer (so not locked to a specific user account but a shared location) or both done from the same user account, you will be fine. If Daz Account A installs Victoria 7, and Daz Account B also has it and needs it on your system, it will be able to. The only difference is if Account A has content Account B doesn't have, Account B won't be able to use it. This does negatively impact those households that have different accounts but have previously shared content. In the short term we can do things like merging of accounts, and in the long term, we have some plans for addressing it in a more elegant manner.

  • Can I use DAZ content in Poser Pro Game Dev?

Most Victoria 4.2 stuff should be useable in Poser Pro Game Dev without any problems. Victoria 4 was originally developed for Poser. It's only Genesis that you are likely to have problems with, and some of the newer sets that have been develped for Daz Studio only.

But if you want to use it in a game that you are going to distribute that is a licencing issue not a technical one. Some PAs sell game developer licences for their stuff, I don' t know what the position is on Daz's older stuff.

I think M7 has been trampled and pulverized by the continuous stream of similar looking gen 3 tanned females that have been released like cattle from a gate. =-)

Even if he could make it to the door he will come with a DRM chastity belt hard hat made of clouds, and an outfit for victoria 7, because, you know, you can't have a male release even one day without something hitting the store for Victoria 7.

If he comes with a V7 outfit, it had better be a wedding dress. Those two need to bite the bloody tacnuke and get that ship haze grey and underway. Maybe then we'll see a baby for Gen3.

I didn't, but hopefully someone will do that. BTW, the link is 404. It should be this one.  I think you got the "and" attached to it.

If you folks aren't reading the threads about the new 4.9 Studio version, well...you might want to.

  • V4.2 and M4 not working in 4.9?

Anyone else having problems with Victoria 4.2 and Michael 4 in the new 4.9 beta?

I've used the new connect system and everything else has installed correctly so far except for these two, each time the actor stays as the daz logo with a warning triangle and if I click on it it says the file does not exist.

I've deleted and reloaded the files a couple of time now incase I had a corrupt download but no go each time.

Any ideas on how to solve this? I've got everything installing to a new directory on my second drive if that makes any difference.

OK, so I'll be able to download a product package file and an authorization file.  This will also be the case for older, converted content?  I download the package file for Victoria 6, there's an authoeization file to let me install her?

Older content will be accessable through everything you have today in addition to having the product package and authorization file.

Not quite correct. The content is still on your local machine. You can back up your content locally. You do not need to connect to the Internet to use, or even restore your content from a backup you have made.

But we won't be downloading ZIP's anymore, right?

Not really relevant. Do you believe format is more important than how the content is used?

Well it is relevant, actually. Without the ability to keep a backup copy of the product that you've paid for, be it ZIP, RAR or CD-ROM, what do you do WHEN the DAZ Cloud goes down? I think that was at the heart of some of the earlier questions being asked about this scheme.

One thing about clouds: there are a lot of them around, and they have a habit of dropping crap on people's heads.

You can still back up your data and your database locally. In fact I, personally, recommend it. The format of the things you are backing up is not relevant.

Right. So product install files do not exist in the DAZ 4.9 world. There's only your Content Database and your Content Library. The files that constitute the "product" are files stored all over the cloud; I can see how that works and how it's good for DAZ, but what would you prefer? Backup your content ZIP files so that, even in the worst case scenario, you can manually extract them? or backup your entire Content Library every time you install a new product. OK, you can do incremental backups, but that starts to become one very complex system after the simplicity of a repository of ZIPs.

As I said, this IS relevant and it WILL affect the way people work. I don't like it, but I'm sure there are many who will be absolutely salivating at this wonderful new technology!

The files are stored in directories specific to the product. So if you just bought and installed Victoria 7, and you want to backup just that product, you just need to make a copy of that one folder. You can zip it, rar it, burn it to a cd-rom, copy it to tape drive, or backup any other way you want, and get just that one product, similar to if you did it with the zip. The one real difference is it will be the entire product, so products which consist of 4 different zip files that are broken up due to size and problems that come with downloading multiple-gig single file downloads, are all in that one directory, so if you made a zip of it, it would, essentially, be the combination of all 4 zips.

  • Kickpads for V4

I know that Victoria 4 is kind of an outdated model lately. But I still use it. And what I need to complete a costume I'm working on is a pair of kickpadded boots geared for V4.

I'm at my wits end. I've searched all over Daz3D, Renderosity, Runtime DNA, Content Paradise... but there has not been any sign of ANYTHING resembling what I need.

Can someone please help me? Here's a reference of what I'm needing. There's plenty of other designs available as well that can be found via Google, but these are more or less standard; the usual morphs would apply, along with a V4 bodysuit fix.

    I would greatly appreciate it.

It's obvious looking at the promos that the Rayn hair was used, They could have used the texture from Rayn also, but since it says they used Sasha for Victoria 7 for the character and that is what it looks like, it probably is just the hair.

Speaking of neat FirstBastion products, look at Last Chance Gas Station! This is using the 3DL lights (yes, hold your heart, I did a 3DL)  with the included light set. I changed the lights to a very slight light blue, changed one light to have raytraced shadows, increased the shadow percentage quite a bit (I like fuzzy shadows) and changed the shadow bias to .20.  You wouldn't have a chance with Valoria (for Arabella 7) tracking you- she's stopped in to terrorize the customers. This is on Genesis 3 Female as I don't own Arabella.

The hair is (will have to put it here later, can't check, doing a closeup render for you that will take hours) and the outfit is Post Apocalyptic Outfit (Genesis 3 Females) Be sure and check the belt before you render- I had to start over as it wasn't "expanded" enough and went into the tummy (and she's pretty thin!)

Poses that go well with zombies are the Pitfall Poses (for Victoria 7)  Lots of good ones for a victim and for the zombie.

If you're new to lighting, or want a great 3DL lightset, consider getting  Last Chance Gas Station. It's a gem with the lights and the props. He did wonderful groupings, every little thing is separated out for you- quite a bit of thought went into that.

  • What features would you like to see appear in dazstudio 5?

I would like to drag a marquee over an area such as a face and have it render it at full resolution. Or at least have the scene window at full resolution scale and navigate it with a window scroll without changing the camera pov.

In the Tool Settings pane with the Spot Render Tool active you can tell it to render to a New Window.

I would also like a morph brush like Posers implementation. Would be great to adjust the environment to accommodate a figure like Victoria 7 standing on grass without the grass going through her feet and legs. Props would also benefit. Would also be nice to be able to smooth out an area with the same tool.

In the mantime there are two options that allow a partial match to that - DForms with a weight map, and Push Modifiers with a Push Modifier Weight Node applied to give a weight map.

Like many other characters, FWSA Hannah HD for Victoria 7 can look really different, depending on the hair and outfit. Shown is with Sora Hair, (Genesis 2)  then Regina Malorum Hair.  (Genesis 2) That band in the hair goes GREAT with this outfit. I did have to color in the scalp a bit on the forehead, the cap had a bit of a noticeable line with Iray lighting.

The Ma Belle Poses for Monique 6 have a nice variety of sitting and standing.

BTW, if anyone wants to test it, Charlie Hair would not autofit to Hannah. I didn't test on other characters, but I tried twice on Hannah.

The outfit is Elven Grove Out (Genesis 2), and if you don't want to use the high heel boots, the Fayre (Genesis 2)  shoes work really well. You can't see the shoes from the promo art, so this will show you really well.  Cute straps!

    Expression for the first one:

    Satisfied .061     Smiling .091     Subtle Smile 0.41     Thrilled 0.045     Triump 4.5

The angry one then had these added:

    Contempt 55.3     Disgust 11.4

  • Breast Control Genesis 3 (Commercial)

Hello, I can't figure out how to open that puppeteer window that's in the promo video. I've tried with genesis2 and genesis3 females, and also with victoria 7 figure selected, but that window just won't open. I've tried to use it from "Smart Content --> Utilities --> Breast Control Puppeteer Support --> Breast Control Genesis 3 female" and also from content library, but I assume it's the same thing. Anyways, if I don't have a figure selected, then it throws an error, and if I have a figure selected, then it loads .../Breast Control Puppeteer/Breast Control Genesis3 female.duf file, but nothing happens.

I have both Breast Control and this puppeteer extensions installed, and I can find the morphs from the posing section, but this puppeteer system I just can't make work. I'm still new with whole DAZ interface, so I have no idea if I'm doing this the right way...so, is there any chance you could show a step by step guide for us noobies how to open that window. I'm using DAZ 4.8 and city limits lite layout, if that could be there problem.

  • Hospital Room - I like, but...

I don't think I have a single 3D bed of any kind that has any sheet or blanket morphs. It's just not common - although I certainly wish it was - so I'm a little surprised that so many are acting like this is the first time they've encountered this.

Well, there is this one: http://www.daz3d.com/sleeping-late-for-victoria-6

And Jepe's BeddingZ for males products. That's all I could find here on DAZ.

But I think the complaint is valid. For a retail price of $34.95, the product should have a set of poses for lying in the bed with matching morphs. Maybe six each for G2M and G2F, perhaps the same poses for G3F, as well. It certainly would be a much more versatile set with the poses and morphs, and I know I'd be more likely to purchase it. As it is, I'll pass.

  • Hospital Room - I like, but...

I picked it up with the intention of making morphs for the blanket and doing some work on a couple of the other pieces. One of the things I'm looking at doing is adding couple of small bits to parent other things to, so we don't get the icky pokethrough issues.

So, out of curiosity, would there be anyone interested in a fresh blanket for the bed that has a more pose-releated morphs for various heights?

Aside from Jepe's SheetZ, that is...

Aside from that I balk at the idea of having to rework this rather expensive set (compare it with the ones that were released today by First Bastian, for example)...

Fresh blankets and sheets are always a good thing, if you can use them with other sets, like this one:

    http://www.daz3d.com/sleeping-late-for-victoria-6

But that aside, the problem I have with the blanket is that the morph could be very usable if two things had been taken into account:

    • the chest part of the blanket is "stiff". It doesn't accomodate for sitting/bending up or poses
    • "leg bump". This needs to be "movable". I'm not sure how that can be seamlessly achieved for the full sheet, but perhaps two or three different "people sizes" would be a great start.
    • (Of course, a "perfect" set would also include some "pooling around a sitting person" type of morph, when someone gets up, the sheet is all messed up. But that would be wishful thinking.)

I don't think I have a single 3D bed of any kind that has any sheet or blanket morphs. It's just not common - although I certainly wish it was - so I'm a little surprised that so many are acting like this is the first time they've encountered this.

Concerning that sample render above, try hiding the parts of the figure that do not show (legs, feet), and try either Z scaling the bed slightly or try a d-former on the sheets (it's a pain, I know). Until we really make the leap to dynamics, this is the kind of stuff we need to do. I have to use all kinds of time-consuming tricks to get 3D content to do what I want it to, and very often I cannot get it looking the way I want at all. There's not a lot I or any of us can do about it except to learn to make or edit objects ourselves.

Of course you can improvise. My beef is that at the set's price, (and with the fact that the bed morph is included), the morph could have been better, i.e. since the material is rather... plain.
