Daz Studio 4.9 Beta Now Available..
The underlying mess of the folder structure is a hold over from Poser thinking and can not be reasonably fixed. Further adjusting that folder structure can and does cause products to get broken.
The most efficeint way to organize large amounts of data, so that it has and maintains relationships is through the use of a database. This works regardless of the actual physical structure of the files and is exactly the design purpose of a database. It improves and speeds searches, allows searches to be transparent to the customer. (I want a shirt that fit Victoria 7, I don't have to build a search, there already is one.) I have pants that fit both Michael 6 and Victoria 6, I don't have to have two copies of the pants, I have one copy, and when looking at pants for either Victoria 6 or Michael 6 it shows up.
It is easy to talk about, but without a common frame of reference and a practical example it isn't going to make much sense. So we are in the process of making a video to show how it works (in my mind something that I should have done to answer questions long before now, since nobody had done it. Mea culpa.) so people can see it before judging it.
The problem with using DS to organize content is that, while everything may look nice and tidy in the program, the underlying folder structure remains a bloated mess of files. If something does go wrong internally, and we find ourselves at our wits end trying to fix it, the first thing someone like me is going to want to do is open the file system and examine the folder structure as a backup option. My understanding is that will not be possible with DAZ Connect-exclusive content.
This goes back to something that I have been asking for for over a year now...

That's six different naming conventions (counting the ones with no extra characters at the end).Just tell me which ones I need to install for my particular installation.
I don't want to hear "You only have to install the no extra character ones and the DS ones, except in the case of some items pre XXXXXX. For those items you also have to install the StudioCF files..." etc. etc.
Make it straight forward. Let the program tell me which to install. So that I don't have to find out (at the worst possible time) that I am missing xxxx geometry file or xxxx textures.
One of the things Daz Connect addresses.
That's good to hear... As long as that doesn't mean when there is a missing file (geometry, texture, etc.) I need to find an internet connection.
There is a reason why I install everything that DIM says I need for a DS 4.5+ installation... Then download everything else that I supposedly don't need, which I squirrel away into a sub-directory.
If you have a file, that you own, and is required for something else to work, and you haven't downloaded it, then you will be offered the choice to connect and download it.

That is what I figured. Which means its the exact same issue I currently have and has not been fixed.
With DAZ Connect I will need to go onto the internet. Then download the missing peice.
Currently I flip over to DIM. Locate the installer and install.
One works right now in any circumstance. The other requires an internet connection.
Same problem, not resolved, just more crippling than my current solution.
What I am asking for is the new system to already know that "geometry file xxxxx" isn't included with xxxx installer. Then to automatically download it at the get go. That doesn't seem like too much to ask.
The current solution that you describe doesn't remedy the problem. It ignores it, compounds it and then hides it.
I was just trying to answer the other half of the question, and problem, which you brought up. Sorry for the confusion. There are times when a customer purchases a product which requires another product, and they don't realize it. (Occurs most often with texture add-ons.) Or they install some of their content for space reasons and not all of it.
In both of those cases, because they don't have everything needed to use something, they are now prompted to fix the problem instead of just erroring out.
No. That is not the problem.
The problem is "DS" files that also require a handful of files from a Poser only install package.
I run into it at least a few times a month... Souless Empathy's Strange Cave (though it could be the Room of Books, I don't remember exactly) is a perfect example. There are model files that are only in the Poser installer. While the texture files are in the DS installer. And a couple of the Props (the water I believe) is in the DS 4.5 installer.
And that is handled by Daz Connect. (As I previously stated.) I was simply expanding on the answer, with the other, unasked, half of the question. As that problem also occurs and is related.
I give up. I am not going to argue with you anymore. The problem is not fixed with DAZ Connect. It's worse. All I was asking was that all these inconsistent file types and abandoned formats be cleaned up during this exercise. That's not going to happen, fine. I will continue with my home grown solution.

Wouldn't it then be possible to make the Content Library pane completely dynamic? The reason most users are shuffling the folder/files is to change the appearance in the Content Library pane anyway.
If users could just simply drag-n-drop stuff on that pane to their hearts desire, and not touch the underlying files it would solve a couple problems.
1) the underlying files would still be in the default location so support would be easier.
2) we could make our own custom catalogs :)
It is the categories part of the Content Library pane. It doesn't have the full capability of the Smart Content pane but it is already there.

ParachutesDepends on what model figure ?
G2F and Victoria 6
You can use a back pack for parachute pack, now your all set. Enjoy
looks good, thanks :)
Daz Studio 4.9 Beta Now Available..Mimic 3.1 works Victoria 4 and Michael 4 as well, and Mimic 3.1 Pro works on those plus any other Poser 7 (or lower) figures that you have vismes set up for them.
Mimic Pro for Carrara works on all the the Poser figures which work in Carrara (Poser 7 or earlier), that have visme's or that you can create vismes for, Genesis, Genesis 2 Female and Genesis 2 Male and any Carrara native content that you have vismes set up for it.
The license for the engine for both Mac and Windows is a license for the 32 bit version of the engine. The company that the license was obtained from never did a 64 bit version of the engine.
Are you aware we reached the generation 7? I use mainly Genesis 1/2 not V4!
Mimic 3.1 totally lacks of support for Genesis 1/2/3 and the free plugins you can find online works only with LipSync in the 32bit version of DAZ, since in Mimic 3.1 you can't use them due the lacking of a working 3D model for it.
Basically you are telling me "Buy Carrara and Mimic Pro because it's the only way you can make speech animation in a 64bit environment".
Can't they just create a plugin for Mimic 3?
Anyway better stop here, we are going OT...
transform utility "fail"I am really sorry that i cannot normal speaking - but i understand what you write (i see only english tutorial since 3years, so i understand many but i dont speak...)
so:
1. my caracter is the Victoria 7 and i made my cloth to the victoria shape - that's a problem :) Because in the shape the bones are in other position; and the difference between the original pose of my modell and the "fit to victoria 7" pose is so little... - i understand already. Manymany thanks for you :)
2. i see your pic from transfer utility and i know already this popup realy good but i can use this menu. I cannot click on. This is in my case grey / inaktiv. I hope, you understand - i have nothing tip that why? Need any plus installation? I use DAZ 4.8 Pro. When i make my cloth to base shape, then need i this option?EDITEDITEDIT edit to 2.!!! This menu can i use on Genesis 3 Female (the base shape) only! When i use for figure the Victoria 7 shape, then i cannot use this menu (it is inaktiv).
transform utility "fail"Ah,, I see why it happen. you clear said, it happen when you use "fit to" option.
because You model the clothing for Victoria 7shape?
Vicotria7 is actually morphed shape, (though she is famous character) of genesis3female. Usually, we may better not model for Victoria7.. or Aiko6 or Vcitoria5 etc, at least untill you know all option of transfer utilit clear.
If you model clothing for genesis3female base shape, and transfer weight, rigs, when we fit clothing to Victoria7 (or other character shape) ( both,, in transfer utility option, or manually "fit to"). the morphed shape should be auto transfered to the clothing , then we need not make every character shape clothing for one base shape.

But if you model your obj for Victoria7 shape, after you use transfer utility, (as default) ds try to transfer weight and rigs from base shape of current Actor . DS believe you model the obj for base shape not Vicotira 7. without you use other option. then after "fit to", the delta "victoria 7 shape - genesis3female shape" auto followd to the clothing. then it move and mess up.
about template, see my pic.. (sorry, I am not native too, and I can not tell clear,, each option detail and how to use)but even though you understand other options, usually you are suggested only use base model at start point to make clothing, etc.
use morphed shape for template, then model clothing for morphed shape often cause problem when you use transfer utility.you may find how to avoid these problem, but after all, you may re-shape your obj, for base shape. then the clothing work (at least, auto-follow work) for every genesis3female character shape.
Opera leather gloves for Genesis 3 femaleHello
I'm currently working on a Pin up / Dominatrix theme on Genesis 3 Female ( Victoria 7 - iray) and the only missing accessory is the Opera (over the elbow ) leather gloves in black color. I've searched the store and found some nice selections of Thigh high leather boots , they're perfect , just as I wanted for the theme. But when it comes to opera gloves for G3F , I can only find Latex and Satin one but no leather. So what I'm doing now is applying leather shader into the Satin gloves , it's not so bad but they have no wrinkle like real leather would have , so it would be great If there is a high quality Opera leather gloves available in the store for G3F too.
Thank you very much in advance , I hope to see them in the store in the future.
It's Not Raining MenSo, two things to start: (1) I am not affiliated with Daz, nor am I any sort of representative for them. (Thank heavens. My head would be going all explodey today if I were.) And also (2) I don't create content for sale.
That said:
(1) The Daz Universe pretty much does revolve around females and female content. That's what several content creators have said, over and over and over. They create content for males, it goes over like a lead balloon, they create the 9,689th version of "armor" for females, and it sells like it's going out of style any second now. You can see that when you look at the numbers of items made for the different figures in the shop's "Figure" drop down. Back in June 2015, when I last checked this:
According to the store, when I uncheck "Hide what I own",
- G2F had 2,399 items in store. Presumably this includes everything, since they don't separate out character sets or clothing. What "everything" consists of beyond that, I've no clue.
- G2M had 817 items in store.
- Genesis 1 had 1699 items in store; someone else can figure out the V5/M5 breakdown, if they're so inclined, not that it's particularly relevant;
- Victoria 4, all by herself, has 3,063 items (and again, assuming the V4 Elite/Aiko/Stephanie stuff is included, for Sanity). Not as much as G2F and Genesis combined ... but not that far behind, considering. (And this ignores RDNA and Renderosity, which have only this year started adding notable numbers of G2F items, but who seem to be quite up to date with G3.)(2) You should be able to smart-prop these masks to any figure you want. All you need to do is put them in the scene *WITHOUT* selecting the figure, and then parent it to the figure's head.
(3) No, there aren't any specifically male textures, unfortunately, but then, for a Genesis 3 mask, there wouldn't be, just yet.
Daz Studio Pro BETA - version 4.9.0.21!With all the features that people have been asking for......Physics, Better Animation Tools, Properly updated documentation, and more.....this is what they give us.
DRM and enforced structured 'smart' content.
And with so many on the forums pointing out the problems involved with these 'benefits', they keep pushing them like they were a gift from the gods.
So what if at some point the license server crashes? What if DAZ folds? Will all that post 4.9 content become unusable? What if I need to reinstall after that from a backup copy?
Or maybe my account gets corrupted. Pre-4.9, I could just use my backed up DIM files. Couldn't use DIM itself, obviously, but that's a minor inconvenience. But with 4.9 and on, since it can't authenticate, I lose all that content.
I just finished burning a few BD-R discs with my DIM files for backup. Glad I did, now....
If this goes live in 4.9, I won't be upgrading, nor will I renew my PC+.....nor will I be shopping at the DAZ store, unless there is still an option to download unencrypted DIM files for offline install and usage. A shame, really. I was finally getting the hang of content creation and was looking into turning my dev skills toward plugin creation.
You don't need to be online to use your content, you will absolutely need to be online only once - to register the account on the machine - when the offline downkload and install option is available.
Which, if in the described scenario (reinstalling from backup without access to the servers, for whatever reason), would still lock you out, correct? New OS install, so it won't have whatever magic is needed to decrypt without connecting.
Oh, wait.....we download a keyfile of some sort when we connect that one time. We can back that up too? And what if that file gets corrupted. Before, we might lose access to one corrupted package. Now, if THAT file gets corrupted, NO encrypted content will work.
And I keep seeing other DAZ staff talking about "it accounts for 90% of support tickets" and "90% will never notice the files are encrypted." Well, 90% of those 90% are the 'just trying it out cause it looked neat' crowd. The other 10% are your bread and butter, because they consistently spend in the store. Those 10% that WILL notice are the ones who edit files, rearrange directories, modify paths, and actually continue to use the product for years. That 10% probably spends 90% of the money that goes through the DAZ Store.
Can't find something? Why not actually put a metadata point into DIM that can be looked at when you right-click a product or show details that tells you the direct path to the main content it installed? Seems simple enough, but it isn't there.......Or maybe a search box for the Content Files pane that actually works? (i.e., it doesn't show the content icons for the search, but shows the FILE TREE for the search which you can then select from.....)
DRM is going to hurt DAZ. But you won't listen. We've shown countless history of how it's failed in the past.....why do you cling to it so?
Do you talking with your wallet that is is the on ly language Companies understand anymore,. I will continue to buy stuff here at daz until they Officially have changed their content to Dax connect instead of Zip files at that time. My shopping days here are done. Money talks and it walks and it can move to other shopping sites.. give me some incentive Daz to keep buying your products. Increased Product cost and now product key encryption.. is really not what I call incentive for continuing to buy products for Multi Software users like myself. No matter how much Hay you try to feed me its still Hay.
But don't take my word for it. Iets see how this all has worked out for daz sales ina year after they have made this change official . My bet is its going to work against Daz, not for them. Unfortunately Daz Studio was not the only software I was using the site content in . even though I have been finding a lot less poser compatable products . But it looks like the direction daz is heading for besides the cloud base content is but also Proprietary software content only as well ...
The good thing is I have been in 3d long enough to have a very very large 1 TB plus content Library to work with for a long time to come. So now thw question is going to be what can I spend the money I saved on from not buying 3d content at daz anymore. With the money I'll be saving not spending at daz I can update my wardrobe again this year. I love buying Venus.com & Victoria secrets clothing. I just got some London jeans from VS for $50 in size 12 this week which I can actually wear myself..lol
Daz Studio 4.9 Beta Now Available..Have they finally implemented the LipSync from the 32bit version?
Unfortunately no. It is a limitation of the license.
I am not saying there can't be a different solution in the future, but I am also not saying there will be a solution in the future.
Limitation of the license? I never heard about it before!
Anyway I think the future will be very dark... I bought Mimic 3.1 ages ago and still it works on generation 3 figures... They never updated the software!
Plus the PRO version works only in Carrara and I think that version never got updated too...Mimic 3.1 works Victoria 4 and Michael 4 as well, and Mimic 3.1 Pro works on those plus any other Poser 7 (or lower) figures that you have vismes set up for them.
