  • Purchasing Characters

I am working with the basic Gen 2 female character at the moment but would like to mix it up a bit with different characters. I see plenty that say they are for Genesis 2 female(s) and then other that are for "Victoria 6"  "Mei Lin 6". Am I correct in assuming that I would need to purchase these characters first? For instance, buying Jia for Mei Lin 6 wouldn't do me much good because Jia only builds off of an existing "Mei Lin 6" but anything that says "For Genesis 2 Female(s)" is probably okay. Am I in the ball park?

Product works fine in general, except when you use the Genesis 3 female genitalia from the Victoria 7 pro bundle. Those turn pale. Since both are from the DAZ shop I would have expected otherwise.

Couldn't you just copy the settings from the areas that look OK and paste them to the genitals? Or even study the settings and enter the values manually until you get the correct look?

    so - hi again :)
i have new problem :D The image show it perfekt. Also i made new models to genesis 3 female and all are perfekt. All is in perfekt position, when i apply the victoria 7 shape then too all perfekt :)
But when i will a pose use then the middle modell (the loin) (all elements is a modell; also shoes, armor, loin) make an interesting deformation :D How can i fix this? This is a weight map problem? Need i weight map to make with hand or it is automatic generated?
can i with you on skype speak (only chat)?

    thx a lot - tobibandi

The problem is too sharp an edge to the weight maps for the legs, so that all of the stretching is being doen by a single row of polygons. Try selecting some polygons down the middle of the loincloth and then with the Node Eight Paint Brush right-click and select Smooth for each of the leg weight maps.

  • Kickpads for V4

I know that Victoria 4 is kind of an outdated model lately. But I still use it. And what I need to complete a costume I'm working on is a pair of kickpadded boots geared for V4.

I'm at my wits end. I've searched all over Daz3D, Renderosity, Runtime DNA, Content Paradise... but there has not been any sign of ANYTHING resembling what I need.

Can someone please help me? Here's a reference of what I'm needing. There's plenty of other designs available as well that can be found via Google, but these are more or less standard; the usual morphs would apply, along with a V4 bodysuit fix.

    I would greatly appreciate it.

I could probably make some version of these for you...I need a project to work on anyway to figure out how to package things correctly for DAZ users.

I'll post back if I get to it :)

  • It's Not Raining Men

The thing is that quite a few of those outfits that are posted can already be done with a texture change alone. That is the issue with quite a few of the suggestions I see over the years. I am all for more male stuff but a lot of it is already out there.

Then why are there not more texture artists getting more support packs out there to generate more sales?  Seems to me there are a million and one little black dresses out there, most all look the same untextured and yet there they are, hitting the stores with good sales with very little support afterwards.  So there are a million and one surf board shorts and T's out there textured just a little differently... same thing but different sales results.  frown

From what I understand, the add on pack with only sell a small percentage of the original set. Unless the add on comes out at the same time, it typically will not make enough of a sale to be worth the effort.

It's really a shame.  I mean why not extend the sales life of a loved product rather than starting from scratch over and over again?  Such strange creatures us humans are at times............. indecision

Speaking personally, I don't like buying texture packs (unless they come as a sales bundle or something) because I always feel like "oh, it's just an image change, I could do that." And I could, but also ... I probably never will.

Pretty much all of the environments featured in the premier bundles recently had an addon to them that dramatically changed the look and feel of the piece. I thought that was really cool (and bought almost all of them.) But then I see a texture pack for let's say black dress 47, and now you can make it a pink dress. Or green! I would not expect that to sell well at all.

There's also the issue of "oh this new product x requires product y, which I don't have. Don't want to have to buy a whole extra thing!" This is also true of characters having other figure dependencies, which I assume is why everyone just makes stuff for Victoria or G3F, which is why people question the many varieties of skinny white girl base models, but that's a whole separate thing.

  • formerly male content creation thread

I'm going to reproduce some text tutorials I wrote for another Published Artist, because this is probably too large an area for me to do a full pictorial/video set on my blog (and changes a bit every generation).  I've been sick for two weeks now, so anyone feel free to add/amend, especially since I would rather poke myself in each eye than try to explain weight mapping in text.

The fastest way is still to start out with Transfer Utility from the source figure to your clothing obj. Then tweak maps and add extra bones and JCM as needed.
The biggest thing is JCMs. You can't get by without these for G3 because all of the bones have single axis rigging only (not three as with TriAx), so only one map controls side to side, bend and twist. If one of those does not look right, you can't do much to the weight map without messing up the others. And you can't depend on G3's transferred JCM to fix it, in many cases they make things worse instead.
    So your workflow goes:
    1. Make the clothing in your modeling software. UV Map it and give it materials. Export to obj. Do NOT make it to an FBM, make it to the base figure in zero pose.
    2. Import the obj into DAZ Studio.
    3. Start transfer utility; it looks like an arrow pointing up and to the right (the icon). For source choose G3 and target choose your clothes.
    4. You can use a template in the dropdown if you want to try that. Most do not work better than the body as a starting point for a final product.
    5. When TU is finished, save the clothes to library, delete and reload.
    6. Now is the time to add more skirt bones in the bone editor if needed (it looks like a bone with a bandaid across it, and right-clicking in the 3d window accesses its menus). You will also have to add weight maps for each new bone. I can go into that if you get to that point and don't know how.
    7. When all the bones are added, right click in the 3D window and choose memorize--memorize figure rigging, then save. This is important!
    8. Delete and reload again.
    9. Now it is time to do JCM. First do this:
    www.youtube.com/watch?v=rgF5Di…
Then, when you have found the bends that still need correction after rigidity, then do this:
    www.youtube.com/watch?v=3HKdAk…
When that is finished, save again, reload again, and test. You will almost always need thigh side-side and bend JCMs for males because of the crotch bulge.  The best way to set up a double (for two joints at once) is to freeze it to one side and set up the other as an "attenuate."

Then there is the making of custom FBMs or PBMs or support:

    1. Dial in the morph in the figure, with the clothes on.
    2. Hide the figure, leave the clothes visible (clothes must be at base resolution, sometimes leaving smoothing on helps, though).
    3. Export the clothes to obj.
    4. Import them to your modeler and reshape them to fit the body morph properly. I keep a file for Blender of the major morphs I want to support and update it periodically, so I can just use that and not re-import the cleavage morph (Victoria 7, etc.) repeatedly.
    5. Export it again. Make sure it has the full correct name of the morph you want it to replace, e.g. FBMMichael7, not Michael 7 Body.
    6. Start Morph Loader Pro (icon looks like a flexing biceps) and click on "Choose Morph Files" to navigate to that obj. Make sure "Overwrite Existing/Make Unique" is right-clicked and set to "Deltas Only" (if you don't you will get an error and it will fail). Then Accept.
    7. Now MLP will run and tell you if it worked. If it does, your replacement morph will appear instead of the broken auto-generated one.

With the actual PBMCleavage morph it's also a bone pose, so loading it takes a special procedure. Let me know when/if you get to that specific one and we'll go into it.

If you are making a fixit or style morph that is not meant to replace another, you need to also right-click on Morphs/Morph Loader Pro and change it to Actor/Style or Actor/Adjustments (depending which is more relevant - for e.g. pants legs are more a Style morph where anything that is a clip fix is an Adjustment morph). I think they allow Actor/Movement too.

For saving morphs without resaving the entire item it's file--save as--support asset--morph assets. Then check just the ones you want to save.

  • Issue with Drawstyle?

The render comes out fine, the problem im having is in the actual poser view...actually any view im in, whether its the content tab, posing/animating/ lights or render, the figures in the viewpoint are appearing bland.  I think dark is the wrong word here, its not that they're dark, they're just like a desaturated brownish skin tone, rather than the true skin tone.  Remember when youd import any of the genises 1 or 2 models before applying a character mat?  Thats almost exactly what my victoria and olympia figures look like, but they have their mats on

The problem started happening when I switched the drawstyle from its default setting.  I remember the icon was a sphere lit on two sides, which I cannot find that Icon in the drawstyles tab anywhere.  Closest thing is Texture Shaded, but thats when I get the desaturated tones on the figures.  I think what I originally had was Texture Shaded 2.0? the updated/newer version of texture shaded, but I cant find that option again

  • Where are the morphs??

[Note: I put fig leaf (disks) on my pic in case it was needed for posting.  Hope it doesn't look too funny.]

I've just checked what G1 and G2 figures I received in the "Genesis and Genesis2 Starter Bundles" I received with my DAZ Install Manager (DIM).  There are 6 of them, shown in my pic (plus I added Michael4).
All 7 figures show default Bodies.  All 6 G1/G2 figures show default Mats.
The 2 G2 figs show default Heads because they contain no morphs.
The 4 G1 figs show Heads with some morphs (silly smiles) to indicate that I did find several morphs in their Heads (but not bodies).
All 6 G1 and G2 figs had almost no morphs in the Body, at least, very few I'd consider useful in sculpting a realistic human body.  (e.g.:  I saw "portly, skinny, a fat bodybuilder, hobgoblin head, alien head, fairy head, move mouth or eyes or nose up or down", etc.)

It looks to me like the Genesis (1,2,3) figures have very good potential because of the finer wireframe and bends of shoulders & hips.  BUT, I wonder if the Genesis figures themselves are actually for posing, or if you're just supposed to have them in your system so you can use the "Real" figures ( the ones that aren't free, like V6, M5, and all Named figures #5 and up).

(I notice that Victoria 6 says:  "Compatible Figures-Genesis 2 Female;  Required Products-Genesis 2 Starter Essentials".)

~WandW:  I don't have that "Alfred" character right now;  I was so frustrated with how things were going that I uninstalled everything with DIM, uninstalled DIM, and then re-installed DIM, DSON and just the Genesis & Genesis2 Starter Essentials for now.  I'll try out your good suggestion later when I re-install more stuff!

@DustRider  "Has anyone used any of the V4 outfits with Genesis/Genesis 2?"

I have used a few. They fit as well as anything else w/ Autofit. I suspect Victoria 4 for Genesis 2 Female by Mallenlane may help in difficult circumstances, although I haven't needed it.

Some of the more recent items have Genesis 2 specific versions.

  • Very odd problem - please advise

Hello all, I'm new here. If this has been covered I apologize, however I doubt this is common issue.

I'm using Daz 4.7 on OSX Yosemite. Having a scene fully set up, including a figure which I believe was Victoria 4.2 (or Misty 4.2), several clothing figures etc, a pose, and lights all set.

I've discovered that when applying a different pose to Vicky, or changing her XYZ location/rotation etc, all of the clothing figures move accordingly, however she does not move at all. Now, very interestingly, I have discovered that if I click her hip visibility in the scene tab after applying a different pose... making her hip invisible, and then making it visible again... the Vicky figure then moves accordingly and matching the clothing figures and pose properly.

Additionally, closing the file and reopening it doesn't change anything.

This is rather annoying, and does not happen with other figures even when added to the same scene to test it. So it's not any sort of file corruption or anything like that. It's a figure setting somewhere that got saved with this particular file, something that got turned on or turned off somehow. I've never come across this in all my years of using Daz and Poser. Does anyone know how to correct this?

    Thanks in advance.

There are several threads on this topic and so far none of the advice works or brings much clarity to the problem.

A complete clean install of DAZ and the CMS does NOT resolve this issue.

The only effective remedy I have seen is to start over on the OS.

So, what is the root cause of the problem?

What is the step by step process to resolve it?

    1) Make sure you have only one content folder with a "Runtime:Libraries:!DAZ:Victoria 4" folder.
    2) This folder must be in a writable location, so on Windows 7/8/Vista it must be outside of the Program Files/Program Files (x86) hierarchies, and on MacOSX it must be a folder where you have write permission.
    3) Execute the DzCreateExPFiles-V4.bat (.command on Mac).
    4) Make sure you are loading "Victoria 4.2.cr2" from that same content folder.

    Heya,

    I'm having this probelm also.

I checked for condition #1 (Capure1-Capture5 is the result of searching for Victoria 4)

Capture 6 shows the contents of Runtime:Libraries:!DAZ:Victoria 4" folder

if I try to start V4.2 from either files (capture 7) or products (capture 8 ) if get the message in capture 9 followed by message in capture10

condition #3: i did execute the batch file

condition #4: the .cr2 file is in a different folder (capture 11)

    what should i do? please.

  • It's Not Raining Men

I'm late to the conversation, but I wanted to say that I look forward to seeing what Slosh has in the works.  I know it will probably end up in my cart.  I am, also, one of the one who bought Uzilite's new outfit and the rain gear for G2M.  I got into DAZ because the bulk of what I want to do is centered around the male model as well as couple renders.  I was so excited about learning what I could do with the software, but I am a little tired of seeing a lot of products that I will never use.  Of course, that just means I don't spend as much.  I have to say visiting the store to see lots of female skimpware and practically none for the males is a little intimidating.  While I have bought a few skimpy outfits for the females, most of those items came with figure bundles.  I would buy skimpwear for men in a heartbeat.  Not so much the women.  I bought very little during the last two sales.  I bought mostly sets (Stonemason and FirstBastion have received the bulk of my money there) and the Victoria 7 bundle.  The only female clothing I have purchased is mostly the deeply discounted PC items during the current sale.  They were all tasteful and/or period pieces.  The rest of my purchases were all male oriented.  I even managed to pick up some back catalog stuff for the males.  I even managed to get Sickleyield's Big Boys product and Forbidden Whisper's Freckles for G2M.  While I realize those aren't clothing, they had been in my wishlist and they are a male oriented product.

If one were to look at my Gallery (please don't, and if you do, I apologize as I'm still learning) you would find that the few renders I have there have an almost equal distribution between men, women, and fantasy creatures.  Most of my work (the REALLY bad stuff) isn't in the gallery, but, there, the male figures out number most other renders.  I'm getting better at lighting and setting up my shots and a whole plethera of other skills, but I am only just starting to try things like modeling outside of DAZ so I really do need vendors who make clothing for the male models.  I have a whole wishlist of clothing items that I haven't been able to find yet.  I hope they show up, and if they do, I will buy them.

As for showing off renders of male specific items in the Galleries by more male oriented artists, I would love to see that.  I get tired of visiting the Gallery and seeing all of the morphed boobs and barely clad females.  I would love to visit and see a nice buff chest with just a smattering of hair who is looking at me with dreamy eyes and a come hither stare.....( I have a few of those I'm working on myself.)  Unfortunately, I think some of the commenters are correct in that, unless they are extremely good, these types of renders don't get the big numbers when it comes to 'likes'.  There are a few, like Mavrosh for example, who consistently get the higher numbers in the galleries when it comes to male renders.   I have serious doubts that things will change.  For now, I just do a happy dance when I do see anything for the males in the shop and, if I can afford it, I buy it.  I am slowly learning to make my own clothing, as well, so someday, I won't have to rely on the sporadic offererings of male clothing.  I can just make it.

  • Items made for Daz 4.7 onwards will they work in other applications

Sorry if this is a silly nobe question, but i have been working with Daz 3 advance for a number of years now, and have a think 4.7 version the last time i looked, never been able to load content on with this, so stuck to using Daz 3A, But there are a number of props, clothing and scenes i want, but only compatible to daz 4.7 onwards, i did buy the Ocean set by Marshian and failed to use it, as i wanted to do some sea scenes i have now tried to imort it, load it using Poseray, Heagon etc again failing,

So the question is if an item prop/building/set is made for Daz 4.7, 4.8 and now the new one 4.9 it will only work in those programs?

The clothing i know won't work as they are made for Victoria 5-6-7 etc or whatever she is called these days!

  • Daz Studio 4.9 Beta Now Available..

The underlying mess of the folder structure is a hold over from Poser thinking and can not be reasonably fixed. Further adjusting that folder structure can and does cause products to get broken.

The most efficeint way to organize large amounts of data, so that it has and maintains relationships is through the use of a database. This works regardless of the actual physical structure of the files and is exactly the design purpose of a database. It improves and speeds searches, allows searches to be transparent to the customer. (I want a shirt that fit Victoria 7, I don't have to build a search, there already is one.) I have pants that fit both Michael 6 and Victoria 6, I don't have to have two copies of the pants, I have one copy, and when looking at pants for either Victoria 6 or Michael 6 it shows up.

It is easy to talk about, but without a common frame of reference and a practical example it isn't going to make much sense. So we are in the process of making a video to show how it works (in my mind something that I should have done to answer questions long before now, since nobody had done it. Mea culpa.) so people can see it before judging it.

The problem with using DS to organize content is that, while everything may look nice and tidy in the program, the underlying folder structure remains a bloated mess of files.  If something does go wrong internally, and we find ourselves at our wits end trying to fix it, the first thing someone like me is going to want to do is open the file system and examine the folder structure as a backup option.  My understanding is that will not be possible with DAZ Connect-exclusive content.

Wouldn't it then be possible to make the Content Library pane completely dynamic? The reason most users are shuffling the folder/files is to change the appearance in the Content Library pane anyway.

If users could just simply drag-n-drop stuff on that pane to their hearts desire, and not touch the underlying files it would solve a couple problems.

    1) the underlying files would still be in the default location so support would be easier.

    2) we could make our own custom catalogs :)

That's six different naming conventions (counting the ones with no extra characters at the end).

Just tell me which ones I need to install for my particular installation.

I don't want to hear "You only have to install the no extra character ones and the DS ones, except in the case of some items pre XXXXXX. For those items you also have to install the StudioCF files..." etc. etc.

Make it straight forward. Let the program tell me which to install. So that I don't have to find out (at the worst possible time) that I am missing xxxx geometry file or xxxx textures.

One of the things Daz Connect addresses.

That's good to hear... As long as that doesn't mean when there is a missing file (geometry, texture, etc.) I need to find an internet connection.

There is a reason why I install everything that DIM says I need for a DS 4.5+ installation...  Then download everything else that I supposedly don't need, which I squirrel away into a sub-directory.

If you have a file, that you own, and is required for something else to work, and you haven't downloaded it, then you will be offered the choice to connect and download it.

This goes back to something that I have been asking for for over a year now...

That is what I figured. Which means its the exact same issue I currently have and has not been fixed.

With DAZ Connect I will need to go onto the internet. Then download the missing peice.

Currently I flip over to DIM. Locate the installer and install.

One works right now in any circumstance. The other requires an internet connection.

Same problem, not resolved, just more crippling than my current solution.

What I am asking for is the new system to already know that "geometry file xxxxx" isn't included with xxxx installer. Then to automatically download it at the get go. That doesn't seem like too much to ask.

The current solution that you describe doesn't remedy the problem. It ignores it, compounds it and then hides it.

I was just trying to answer the other half of the question, and problem, which you brought up. Sorry for the confusion. There are times when a customer purchases a product which requires another product, and they don't realize it. (Occurs most often with texture add-ons.) Or they install some of their content for space reasons and not all of it.

In both of those cases, because they don't have everything needed to use something, they are now prompted to fix the problem instead of just erroring out.

No. That is not the problem.

The problem is "DS" files that also require a handful of files from a Poser only install package.

I run into it at least a few times a month... Souless Empathy's Strange Cave (though it could be the Room of Books, I don't remember exactly) is a perfect example. There are model files that are only in the Poser installer. While the texture files are in the DS installer. And a couple of the Props (the water I believe) is in the DS 4.5 installer.

And that is handled by Daz Connect. (As I previously stated.) I was simply expanding on the answer, with the other, unasked, half of the question. As that problem also occurs and is related.

I give up. I am not going to argue with you anymore. The problem is not fixed with DAZ Connect. It's worse. All I was asking was that all these inconsistent file types and abandoned formats be cleaned up during this exercise. That's not going to happen, fine. I will continue with my home grown solution.

It is happening with Daz Connect. You are only going to get the files you need for Daz Studio. If that means Poser files and Daz Studio Companion files, that is what you get. If it means Daz Studio content only, because Daz Studio and Poser each have standalone installs then you get the Daz Studio files only. If that means a choice between the DS 4.0 and earlier "Legacy" files and the DS 4.5 or later files, you get the DS 4.5 files. No guess work, for each product you get what you need to use the product.

Full disclosure. I am going to test this when I get home.

I am going to use it just like I would if I was on the road and without a internet connection.

I am going to start from a clean empty library. Have DAZ Connect install some of the known problem packages.

Then I am going to disconnect my internet and empty to use those items.

If I receive the errors that I expect to receive (i.e. texture xxx is missing, geometry xxx is missing, etc.) I swear I am going to come unhinged.

Likely suspects: anything related to the Millenium Environment props, any of Souless Empathy's props, DAZ Horse 1, etc.
