Or was the Base produced first, and V7 based off that?

I don't know about production, but this is what I mean:

Genesis Female is named Lana (I don't know if that's related to V4 in any way.)

V5 is named Bree (her material is) and G2F is quite obviously based on V5 supermodel, except taller still (V5 base was a much more reasonable height and had a more normal person body; for some reason supermodel was made super tall and athletic but not with a supermodel build to match, which G2F then inherited to a lesser degree.)

G2F is also named Bree and I think basically uses a remake of V5s material.

V6 has two mat versions, Belle (because that isn't confusing) and Anna (HD)

G3F is named Jeane, kinda breaking the cycle that was beginning, but looks exactly like a same height V6 with added weight to be more generic.

V7 materials don't have a name, so the trend obviously didn't last long, but it's interesting that it was existing in that period when the base character roles were also so clear.

I suppose it would be interesting to know which was created first - but untilimately it doesn't matter.

I always presumed that the base was created first - then used to create the other shapes. Not because of evidence, but because that made sense to me; I suppose for many Victoria and her itterations are iconic (especially 4) so it makes more sense for them to consider it from that perspective.

Well Arabella is 5'8, and according to the internets:

women in Victorian England were typically around 5 ft 2. Queen Victoria was about 4 ft 10 and she was considered quite short at the time. Men were on average a few inches under 6 ft so any woman approaching 5 ft 7/8 would be considered tall.

So she does fit for your image, and I can see her matching that. I've warmed up to Arabella a lot; I just wish her unique nose was a morph dial the way other similar features often are.

To me, Victoria is the baseline (especially since Genesis tends to be based on the previous gen Victoria) Josie and Bethany are great and have clear purposes as base characters. I've still yet to figure out Eva and Karen.

That's right!  :-)  I forget that height standards were different, in other times.  Yes, the cleft in the nose can be recognizable.  It could be smoothed out w/a morph though, in a modeler.  A whisk or two of the Smooth brush, and no more cleft.  ;-)  Unless there's a dark spot there, on texture maps.

  • main differences between Victoria 4 and Victoria 7?

It is quite simple. V7 has a health problem, she is anorexic.

    nDelphi said:

What I am personally noticing is that a majorty of Gn3F/V7 moprh's facial features look the same. I am wondering if the new facial bones make it harder to morph the face and head? If not, then why am I noticing this trend?

it is harder to get good results out of G3F.

Hipbone and Hip crest on G3F is worse, it looks worse and if it comes to bendings it is getting much worse.

    RawArt said:

One big difference between v4 and v7 is that v7 characters are likely to be made with all the technological advances that came around after the creation of v4. Things like HD morphs and Iray material settings. It is doubtful that product makers would go back to v4 develop characters with those (and other) more advanced tools.

but even with HD morphs and such stuff it is much more difficult to get good resluts out of G3F even when it comes to the face. The face of V4 and its mrophs were much better.

And yet to some people many of the V4 characters look much better than the newer V7 ones - bends and poses not withstanding smiley. So those advances don't necessarily always translate to better looking characters.

    * I'm not talking about your characters here though Rawn.

You are absolutely right. Many V4 characters look much better, much much much better than these new anorexic models.

What I say the whole time. They had to improve V4 instead of creating new figures looking much worse. Bendings and so okay, these are improvements. The figures themselves (Characters and morphs) are not.

Actually is makes sense that she is all but ignored here at DAZ because DAZ controls what is in the store and they want to promote the latest and newest product in their store, just like with any other product line. As for backwards compatibility, you can autofit any V4 item to her just like with genesis 1 and 2 with character textures being the only thing not being compatible. I still buy V4 clothing with the sole purpose of using it on genesis 1, 2, and 3. I used to still buy the occasional V4 character if the skin stood out to me, but now I just buy GF3 characters

With GF3 being free, I decided to try her out and after some use and comparisons, decided she was pretty great. for anyone on the fence, make up your own mind, or stick with V4, or G1, or G2, it's your choice..

even if the latest and newest product is not really better when it comes to the look.

I got still asked by many people when I go back and create Dixie renders (Dixie is V4) because Dixie (V4) looks way better they say. And they are right, body of G3F okay, that is an improvement in some ways but the face is not and I can do what I want and try and try and try I am not even close to get a G3F Dixie. It is impossible.

What makes me most angry is, that one isn`t allowed to post images of the problematic regions of G3F because nude images are not allowed, a good way to silence criticism.

They should have taken V4, make a wheight mapped figure out of her with all the bending improvements and bring her out new with her morphs++ That is what DAZ should have done didn`t.

And by the way. HD morphs. V4 has more details than G3F and if you use HD morphs it goes to the recources of the machine, why? for a view rips that V4 have as standard? For dimple creases? G3F has no rips it is a flat ripcage for example. (Just one example). Face : dimple creases also not and for that HD morphs that as written slows the machine? Really good improvement.

Well, I finally caved and bought Arabella a while back, just the figure, when it was 50% off with purchase of a new release. I don't have all the G3F figures and characters, but I do have a few, so I tried Arabella "wearing" the skin/eye mats for the others, and I think her face looks rather stunning "wearing" Adaline.

On the other hand, I don't think the other ladies look particularly good "wearing" Arabella. Her eyebrows are too high on her face. I actually went into Photoshop and modified all of her face maps with the eyebrows lowered 72 pixels. (Ended up with a nice no-eyebrows set as well.)

After setting up the intial scene and lighting, the only changes I made were to either which skins/eyes Arabella was wearing, or which figures were wearing Arabella's skin/eyes. I suspect the other skins would have benefited from adjusting the lighting.

And here is Arabella with modified face maps. (I modified all the maps, though I doubt I'll use the fantasy makeups.)

Arabella with modified face map for lowered eyebrows, by L'Adair

I do that, and use the Rune eyebrow object.

After initially having my doubts, I picked up Arabella while she was on sale. I really like the body (everything up to the head is nice unique shapes from the other G3Fs, texture maps are great) but I'm not a fan of her head at all. It feels really plain in shape apart from the overly distinct cleft in the nose, which you can't dial in/out via a morph. I don't like being forced to use really distinct features from a base character. Fortunately, Vyria exists (just be aware of Vyria's default SubD detail if she's murdering your Iray renders as she was mine.)

I'd love to hear from Daz what the purpose / concept is behind their G3 base figures. I thought I understood G2 pretty well as a series of bases for PAs to launch other similar figures in that area from, but G3 feels very 'well basically it's a slight adjustment on Victoria' for the most part.

Or was the Base produced first, and V7 based off that?

  • Victoria 7 and back tattoos

Is there an easy way to line up tattoos on the back of any V7 uv based skin?  I'm trying manually, but so far it's a little off. I don't care if it's free tutorial or paid script at this point. Just being able to correctlu apply an image of my choosing to the back would be wonderful.

V7 / G3 is OK except for the hip, specifically the upper-inner-thigh / pubic interaction zone.

V4 (and certainly G1, G2 and I think even V3) could be used as a base for 3D versions of these women:

    http://www.dailymail.co.uk/femail/article-3306417/Your-guide-buying-perfect-swimwear-body-shape.html

G3 would struggle. Also with giving birth. Too narrow at the pubis.

    Technicalities aside, Posette had a better figure than Victoria 1 & 2. Technicalities aside, V4, V5 (G1) and V6 (G2) have better figures than V7 (G3).

Those gals stay in shape with juicing and yoga. G3 just smokes and snorts charlie.

(Yes, my initial enthusiasm has worn off. Glad I was cautious.).

I had the opposite reaction, I found G2F/V6 disturbingly anorexic, G3F/V7 just the usual skinniness we've had all along.

  • main differences between Victoria 4 and Victoria 7?

Genesis 3 Female uses weight-mapping where the amount that vertices bend is controlled by numbers assigned to them, allowing much more precise control - especially in areas like the hip and shoulders where multiple joints meet. Genesis 3 Female has numerous morphs triggered by the joint bends to further enhance the bends, and uses a calculation system that makes more natural bends to start with; Victoria 4 uses a mixture of morphs and DForms to adjust the mesh when posed, and doesn't have the better calculation system.

  • How do I lighten the skin only in a render?

Me again - just to say that no matter what I experimented with in SSS, nothing lightened the skintone. So I bought the "Beautiful Skin Iray Genesis 2 Females", installed that today - it's not showing up. I have selected Genesis 2 Female in the SCENE, then gone to Surfaces, and have tried with both "Genesis" and "Victoria 6" (which is who Valerie is for) selected. I have tried with the whole figure selected, and with Skin selected. In all cases I have looked in Presets and in Shaders. Nothing. I am seriously beginning to think that all the thousands of dollars I have spent on 3D, would have been better put to paying someone else to do my artwork for me (*she whined*) ... I KNOW that my Install Manager downloaded and installed. Perhaps in the morning I will try manually downloading and installing, but I may have to take to strong drink if I can't find a solution. For now, good night and thanks for the help so far, much appreciated. I am off to weep into my wine glass ... :D

No need to ruin a good wine by adding slightly salty water surely.  Beautiful Skin Iray for G2F shows up under People->Genesis 2 Female -> Materials for me.  Personally, I would pay someone to make a logical system for where content gets installed and then make content creators stick to it as the cost would be covered by the time saved not rooting around trying to find where this content creator decided to put their stuff this time...

Lightening skin tones - from within DS, I have used the Layered Image Editor on the diffuse image texture(s) to do this previously, just by adding a layer, filling it with white and then setting a very low opacity.  The results are not very subtle, you have more control if you use an image editor, but it might serve your purpose here and it does avoid lightening the hair.

You don't need Victoria just the MilGirls model. What you do get is all of the free or paid for textures and poses for Victoria you have or can find will also work with this little girl. Even the M2 poses will work. I am using the Bishonen for Michael 2.0 pose for her in the example.

Ok..here's my baseline render  Lights are right out of the box..no changes.  3Dlight render to start.  I have done a bit with Iray.  May try to do both at the same time...but not tonight.

She is lovely dHandle and I am honored and pleased you named her after me. She is much prettier then I will ever be. I like the layout of this image as well. I like all that negative space, the uncomplicated background. With this image you can really showcase your skill in texturing.

  • Why so few "cute" G3F characters?

Victoria and G3F came out at the end of June. It's only just the beginning of November and G3F seems to have hit the ground running. Quickest adoption rate I've seen since Genesis launched. And yeah, an awful lot of the characters I see do seem to be V7 clones, but I suspect that there won't be any shortage of cutie-pie characters once people figure out how to morph the face without messing up the facial rig for expressions.

I was about to post a very similar thing...

What I see a serious dearth of is old ladies. And since I'm an illustrator, and a fanartist who does a lot of images for some specific fandoms I *need* old ladies. Several of them. And by old lady, I do not mean halloween witches, although they will do in a pinch.

There never have been that many old lady skins in any of the markets, but there usually have been a few, certainly after a base figure has been out for a while. V4 had a nice selection of 6 or 8 that I got a pretty fair amount of use from. Genesis, not so much. G2 even less. But they could both still use V4's skins, so it didn't really seem too bad. Zev0's aging morphs help a lot, since it can add age to the underlying figure even if the skin isn't designed to show age.

But the 2 year development cycle for Genesis generations is not helpful. People did old ladies for V4 because V4 had been the primary figure for 3-4 years already. If a new generation of Genesis launches ever 2 years, people don't settle down to doing character actors for them, since the new one will be out momentarily, and that may affect one's potential sales.

The fact that G3 is not backwards compatible means that I am really living in hope that someone brings out a texture convertor, or that I could find some legal way of commissioning conversions for the skins that I use in my library of characters.

  • Looking for a gothic dress...

Wow, XaatXuun, you've been digging! That's quite a lot of suggestions, thank you so much. I hope it didn't distract you from anything more important. surprise

    just a couple more

Gothic Moon, maybe add the same over skirt, like you did in your image ? but requires Selene for Victoria 4

this looks close V4 Fairy Gown if you also get Night of the Living DAZ: Bewitch for Fairy Gown

close . Vintage Layered Dress Dynamic

Renaissance Romance now I know this one not too short cheeky

this looks close, Dark Passion for Genesis 2 Female(s)

okay break time, that got me to Page 58 of 114

Gothic moon looks nice, but requires another skirt on top, since it doesn't have layers. Noted in my list anyway, it has a nice top.

The Fairy Gown and the Night of living DAZ: they're definitely nice looking, and have layers, but I think it's more of a gown. The structure is much more "loose" if you know what I mean, while gothic dresses are famous for their tidy corsets as a top.

Vintage layer dress dynamic: Unfortunately I don't have Poser, so no go for me. Same for Dynamic Skirts 1 and 2. sad

Renaissaince romance: it looks like it's only for Aiko 3?

Dark passion: hell of a gothic outfit. I wonder why it didn't show when I typed "goth" in the DAZ search machine. The skirt is still not layered, but I think I'll buy it anyway, since it's so cool and for Genesis 2 Female, so can be used with Lilith 6. And PC+ item as well. wink

okay, been through all the pages, I found a lot that may been close, just to learn they were just  a Texture

and here is my final search

Dynamic Skirts 1 for Victoria 4 & Dynamic Skirts 2 for Victoria 4,but can only be used in Poser only, added them, since maybe they could be possibles

    AngelicDress could work

Black Kitty, thought if you add a skirt, then another possible

LotusGown Base for V4 and A4,  another possible

just reread you first post I think I did pass up a couple others, I was looking for dresses to match the image, I didn't catch this part when I read the post " but preferably with a front closed (so not just a feather-kind back, like "

Angelic Dress: looks very interesting, I wonder how it would look with proper shaders. Haven't seen such layer structure before.

Black kitty: front is too short...  Or one needs indeed a second skirt.

Lotus gown: hmmm, might work. Also a strange layer system, need to think how it looks like with shaders. But it is on 60% sale, so tempting.

Another option is the Wonderland Alice V4 Set and one of the add on texture packs, Alexia or Alys, all $1.99 if you are in the PC+.

    Wonderland: http://www.daz3d.com/wonderland-alice-v4

    Alexia: http://www.daz3d.com/alexia

    Alys: http://www.daz3d.com/alys

Any idea if the skirt is layered? It does look so in the promo's, but the specs only say Underskirt texture and Apron texture, which suggests that the texture map for the skirt is whole, and not split. Does anyone have the figure to test if it has separed shader areas for the skirt?

Another free one (complete with permission for commercial usage) which you might be able to do something with is Wendy's 'G2F Ra Ra Dress'...

    https://www.wilmapsdigitalcreations.co.uk/view_product.php?id=211

Looks promising, I'll take a look at it with my shaders and post the results. wink

Thank you so much guys for all the suggestions. I would never have found them alone.

Watch out for anything by Tipol. Great designs, but nearly always Poser dynamic. Fine if you are using Poser...

  • Simple lara croft face morph?

Thanks to all of you. The scene is shaping up great, FirstBastion. :)

The hair I used was Brooke Hair, and the skin texture is Veronica, though I tweaked the materials. The final render was in Lux and I don't have the scene file saved so I can't give any settings on that or the lights. There was definitely some IBL from one of DimensionTheory's HDR sets.

MeatHead_2010, I'm not sure where you messaged me, but I didn't receive it. To get the files to work in DS 4.5, I personally would put them somewhere in in "My Library/People/Victoria 4/Characters". Sorry, since this was just intended to fulfill a quick request, I really didn't set up a file structure, but to get it to work in DS, you can basically place it anywhere in an existing DAZ Studio content folder.

If you want to use a Poser mapped runtime, you'd place it somewhere within the "Runtime/Libraries/Pose" folder.

Just FYI, both your links are for Brooke hair.
