  • Studio to Zbrush tutorials?

Cris, Zbrush paint even on not UVs models , you don't need UVs to do the all job in Zbrush , you can model , paint, texture and do all job and at the end create UVs or import one .

However if you want to edit an external textures you created before with other program you need to bake it into polypaint group  by group no matter what UVs or no UVs at all and this did not changed since Victoria 1 . You can't even create UDIM UVs in Zbrush, and the moment you edit them they will colapse into overlapped uvs so what is so special about when using Zbrush ? nothing

The only huge advantage of the UDIM UV's is Mari and Modo as they need it so the model can be easy processed and  textured .

So if you use mari or modo with Zbrush you are in good spot, if you use  DS and Zbrush nothing change

Zbrush don't read material file mtl so it will never load sny textures with the model and the process need to be done manually .

but as Richard said above , we all hope Z5 version will do that but I read that there will be one more version before 5 ..

The UV's really not matter in this case if you have overlaped or not when working with polypaint but the exporter plugin do nice job , still you have to do all the same process , Zbrush still have just 1 texture channel and zero support for tiled UVs so not much changed.

G3 is much more suited for working with ZBrush as it has tiled UVs (the UVs aren't collapsed over each other in the 0-1 UV space like earlier generations).  When you export textures for G3, I find the Multi Map Exporter does the job.

True, but you can paint right away with the Genesis 3 Female and output with MME where you needed to do some work to be able to do that with previous Genesis from my experience (tiling the uvs prior to importing to ZB).

  • Islamic Dress for Females

There's Moroccan Dreams for V4, which is modeled on North African clothing, but that doesn't seem to have any kind of head-covering. The corresponding male set, Moroccan Dreams for M4 has a hood, but I think it's distinctively male in design and wouldn't work for females. Valea's Gypsy Hair for Genesis 2 has a headscarf that resembles head-coverings worn in some parts of the Islamic world (not sure about the lace trim, though).

Otherwise, the only products I know of are by Oskarsson over at Renderosity. Searching for "muslim" will find them for you.

I agree with you that these would be products that would be nice to see. There's a certain amount of North African architecture on sale in the store; appropriate clothing to help populate the scenes would be welcome.

Same vendor- I think Destiny looks like Parisa.

Hu? Naaa, not posible, lol. May posibly be the same artist making the Promos, lol.

Parisa I do have in my collection (somewhere), tho I'm not sure, How I missed the (eight? or seventh?) Olympia figure. I need to wake up a bit, and count them again.

    http://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/42487/is-olympia-6-a-new-figure-no-olympia-5-4-etc

    http://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/33594/olympia-6-discussion-and-render-thread-previously-olympia-6-preview-thread/p1

As for Destiny looking like Parisa (Hold on Dr Rush, not that Destiny, lol), Some PA's and many artists like to work with a particular style, and do variations of them. Yes, same vender that I only have six figures from, "gypsyangel" for both.  http://www.daz3d.com/gypsyangel

I see, Some, similarity between three of them that I have purchased (in the promos), tho they are still very different.  Izarra for G2F (Smart), Adrianna for V6 (Smart), and Parisa (CL only). As for the other three, not so much similarity Larian for Ninive 6 (Smart), Aneta for V6 (CL only), and Malakai for Lee 6 (Smart). I am very happy with Izarra, Adrianna, and Malakai. I think 'Jindi' was very pleased with Aneta's mats, and they do look very good (lineup with Aneta). I've yet to peal the 'New' stickers off of ANY of the Ninive6 stuff, and I don't remember much about the other (it was a long time ago). Before I say any more, I want to hunt down some renders and look for some other links. If I brought up any doubts regarding Destiny (Smart), let me just say "I'm clicking the Buy Now button", along with this that didn't make it into my collection yet, odd combo, hmm, lol.

(Switching Topics) Lorilynn looks really good with that Romance dress and Senela hair, nice render Novica .

In separate news, the Keyhole dress is a very nice outfit. Paloma is another incredible figure from Fred. I don't have the texture set for the dress, nor have I done any show-n-tell renders yet. http://www.daz3d.com/paloma-and-keyhole-style-hd-bundle

The fabrics look good. I've got to explore shaders more in depth, I've bought most of the Iray ones and really need to see what I've got before I start buying anything else.

This is Lorilynn  (Genesis 3) with Genesis 2 hair (Anemone Hair) and I did not apply anything to the hair (no UberBase, no Iray hair settings.) I'm using the Iray HDR Outdoor Environments lighting and Victoria 7 Attitude Expressions. Let me say that I don't buy many expressions, and this set seems more fluid than others I have tried. The sliders work well together. This was Surprised 2 at 0.13 /  Skeptical 0.20  / Secret 0.013 /  Scared 0.089  It was nice that they were in the Parameters tab under the Pose Controls>Head>Expressions.

This is Soulless Outfit for Genesis 3 Female(s)

So I played with the results and on the second one which is rendering now (and will take a few hours) I felt it could use some increased crush blacks for more contrast (0.35 up from 0.25) and I upped Saturation to 1.10 (from 1.0)  I put Exposure Value at 14.10 to darken it and Shutter Speed was 273.91 and F Stop stayed at 8.00 and ISO stayed at 100. In Environment, I increased the Intensity to 1.11  So we'll see how that does.

  • Look At My Hair, black viewport problem.

MaxHancock I'm getting a very similar problem as you, but I suspect the reason has nothing to do with LAMH.  I have the exact same black screen, but usually it only happens when I add more than one complicated character to a scene (for example two Victoria 7s, it sometimes hangs up upon loading the second figure, or shortly after) or if I merge scenes.

I have no idea why this happens, as it only recently started happening on my laptop within the last month or so.  I simply cannot believe it has to do with inadequate computer hardware, since I know I've loaded many more characters than that in the past.

You might try rolling Daz back to a previous version, I suspect it's a bug that was introduced in a recent update.  Though I don't know what, you're the only other person I've found with this similar problem.  Currently for me Aux Viewport does the same thing as my main viewport.

  • Installing Victoria 6 for use in Poser

You need to have Genesis 2 Female Starter Essentials installed, Victoria 6 is a shape and so on for G2F. The base Genesis, Genesis 2 Female and Genesis 2 Male, as well as the Default lights and Shaders, are included with your downloads for DS and the DSON Importer (you don't need to install both, if you use the same content directory for Poser and DS).

Hello! So where do I install the Genesis starter essentials? Do I have to have DS installed for V6 to work? I've already installed the DSON Importer but still V6 does not launch in Poser 10.

Or was the Base produced first, and V7 based off that?

I don't know about production, but this is what I mean:

Genesis Female is named Lana (I don't know if that's related to V4 in any way.)

V5 is named Bree (her material is) and G2F is quite obviously based on V5 supermodel, except taller still (V5 base was a much more reasonable height and had a more normal person body; for some reason supermodel was made super tall and athletic but not with a supermodel build to match, which G2F then inherited to a lesser degree.)

G2F is also named Bree and I think basically uses a remake of V5s material.

V6 has two mat versions, Belle (because that isn't confusing) and Anna (HD)

G3F is named Jeane, kinda breaking the cycle that was beginning, but looks exactly like a same height V6 with added weight to be more generic.

V7 materials don't have a name, so the trend obviously didn't last long, but it's interesting that it was existing in that period when the base character roles were also so clear.

I suppose it would be interesting to know which was created first - but untilimately it doesn't matter.

I always presumed that the base was created first - then used to create the other shapes. Not because of evidence, but because that made sense to me; I suppose for many Victoria and her itterations are iconic (especially 4) so it makes more sense for them to consider it from that perspective.

Whether it's a skin name or a model name aside, it makes sense that they'd have the shape of their next generation base inspired by the previous generation's 'top model' (I mean Victoria and Daz are pretty synonymous.) It's the next generation Genesis that has tended to resemble the previous Victoria, whereas each Victoria has changed quite a bit (mostly thanks to the supermodel jump) so it'd make sense to me too to start with Genesis as your "for everyone" base and then make the best high quality figure you can for Victoria using that base.

If that's how it works or is done, I haven't a clue. I just find it interesting to ponder the purpose of the Daz characters.

Well Arabella is 5'8, and according to the internets:

women in Victorian England were typically around 5 ft 2. Queen Victoria was about 4 ft 10 and she was considered quite short at the time. Men were on average a few inches under 6 ft so any woman approaching 5 ft 7/8 would be considered tall.

So she does fit for your image, and I can see her matching that. I've warmed up to Arabella a lot; I just wish her unique nose was a morph dial the way other similar features often are.

To me, Victoria is the baseline (especially since Genesis tends to be based on the previous gen Victoria) Josie and Bethany are great and have clear purposes as base characters. I've still yet to figure out Eva and Karen.

That's right!  :-)  I forget that height standards were different, in other times.  Yes, the cleft in the nose can be recognizable.  It could be smoothed out w/a morph though, in a modeler.  A whisk or two of the Smooth brush, and no more cleft.  ;-)  Unless there's a dark spot there, on texture maps.

  • main differences between Victoria 4 and Victoria 7?

It is quite simple. V7 has a health problem, she is anorexic.

    nDelphi said:

What I am personally noticing is that a majorty of Gn3F/V7 moprh's facial features look the same. I am wondering if the new facial bones make it harder to morph the face and head? If not, then why am I noticing this trend?

it is harder to get good results out of G3F.

Hipbone and Hip crest on G3F is worse, it looks worse and if it comes to bendings it is getting much worse.

    RawArt said:

One big difference between v4 and v7 is that v7 characters are likely to be made with all the technological advances that came around after the creation of v4. Things like HD morphs and Iray material settings. It is doubtful that product makers would go back to v4 develop characters with those (and other) more advanced tools.

but even with HD morphs and such stuff it is much more difficult to get good resluts out of G3F even when it comes to the face. The face of V4 and its mrophs were much better.

    tl155180 said:

And yet to some people many of the V4 characters look much better than the newer V7 ones - bends and poses not withstanding smiley. So those advances don't necessarily always translate to better looking characters.

    * I'm not talking about your characters here though Rawn.

You are absolutely right. Many V4 characters look much better, much much much better than these new anorexic models.

What I say the whole time. They had to improve V4 instead of creating new figures looking much worse. Bendings and so okay, these are improvements. The figures themselves (Characters and morphs) are not.

    FSMCDesigns said:

Actually is makes sense that she is all but ignored here at DAZ because DAZ controls what is in the store and they want to promote the latest and newest product in their store, just like with any other product line. As for backwards compatibility, you can autofit any V4 item to her just like with genesis 1 and 2 with character textures being the only thing not being compatible. I still buy V4 clothing with the sole purpose of using it on genesis 1, 2, and 3. I used to still buy the occasional V4 character if the skin stood out to me, but now I just buy GF3 characters

With GF3 being free, I decided to try her out and after some use and comparisons, decided she was pretty great. for anyone on the fence, make up your own mind, or stick with V4, or G1, or G2, it's your choice..

even if the latest and newest product is not really better when it comes to the look.

I got still asked by many people when I go back and create Dixie renders (Dixie is V4) because Dixie (V4) looks way better they say. And they are right, body of G3F okay, that is an improvement in some ways but the face is not and I can do what I want and try and try and try I am not even close to get a G3F Dixie. It is impossible.

What makes me most angry is, that one isn`t allowed to post images of the problematic regions of G3F because nude images are not allowed, a good way to silence criticism.

They should have taken V4, make a wheight mapped figure out of her with all the bending improvements and bring her out new with her morphs++ That is what DAZ should have done didn`t.

And by the way. HD morphs. V4 has more details than G3F and if you use HD morphs it goes to the recources of the machine, why? for a view rips that V4 have as standard? For dimple creases? G3F has no rips it is a flat ripcage for example. (Just one example). Face : dimple creases also not and for that HD morphs that as written slows the machine? Really good improvement.

  • Arabella 7

Well, I finally caved and bought Arabella a while back, just the figure, when it was 50% off with purchase of a new release. I don't have all the G3F figures and characters, but I do have a few, so I tried Arabella "wearing" the skin/eye mats for the others, and I think her face looks rather stunning "wearing" Adaline.

On the other hand, I don't think the other ladies look particularly good "wearing" Arabella. Her eyebrows are too high on her face. I actually went into Photoshop and modified all of her face maps with the eyebrows lowered 72 pixels. (Ended up with a nice no-eyebrows set as well.)

After setting up the intial scene and lighting, the only changes I made were to either which skins/eyes Arabella was wearing, or which figures were wearing Arabella's skin/eyes. I suspect the other skins would have benefited from adjusting the lighting.

Testing Arabella with other figure/character skins, by L'Adair

Testing Arabella skins on other figure/characters, by L'Adair

And here is Arabella with modified face maps. (I modified all the maps, though I doubt I'll use the fantasy makeups.)

Arabella with modified face map for lowered eyebrows, by L'Adair

I do that, and use the Rune eyebrow object.

After initially having my doubts, I picked up Arabella while she was on sale. I really like the body (everything up to the head is nice unique shapes from the other G3Fs, texture maps are great) but I'm not a fan of her head at all. It feels really plain in shape apart from the overly distinct cleft in the nose, which you can't dial in/out via a morph. I don't like being forced to use really distinct features from a base character. Fortunately, Vyria exists (just be aware of Vyria's default SubD detail if she's murdering your Iray renders as she was mine.)

I'd love to hear from Daz what the purpose / concept is behind their G3 base figures. I thought I understood G2 pretty well as a series of bases for PAs to launch other similar figures in that area from, but G3 feels very 'well basically it's a slight adjustment on Victoria' for the most part.

Or was the Base produced first, and V7 based off that?

Is there an easy way to line up tattoos on the back of any V7 uv based skin?  I'm trying manually, but so far it's a little off. I don't care if it's free tutorial or paid script at this point. Just being able to correctlu apply an image of my choosing to the back would be wonderful.
